Thoughts on Halbrand? Spoiler if he actually Sauron in plain clothes? Lot of little hints in ep 3 that he’s not the good king that was promised, but I don’t know what to think. Feel like there’s definitely something there though
I thought something has to be up. Even if he is a descendent of the King of the Southlands, how could he so easily overpower 4 Numenoreans?
Why are we spoilering guesses? This is literally the conversation that everyone is working on and since nobody knows seems weird to consider it a spoiler. Regardless, just seems strange for him to be anyone who is later perceived as evil considering how invested Nori is in this being her positive destiny. just finished the episode and this show is great. The only thing that will make it not great is people getting caught up in its accuracy since we know that is not even a real possibility given the constraints on available content.
Saruman doesn't flip a switch overnight and become evil btw, it takes an incredibly long time. he's very gung-ho for the good guys for the first like 85% of his life. however, having said that, now that they've given the Stranger slightly more of a personality, it seems unlikely to be Saruman but man, it almost wouldn't be as fun if it was Gandalf. Maiar can be plucked from death's grasp as Gandalf once was, it'd be fun if it was just a random Maiar who just serves their purpose and by the end of the series "dies" and is welcomed back to Aman. also, this series is going to get damn dark at times, so don't let the purity of the Harfoots necessarily mislead you. the hopelessness of Arondir in this last episode I think was great to throw in to show just how unprepared everyone is for the horrors that are coming in the Black Years. His interest in smithing definitely raises eyebrows, that's for sure, since Sauron is the one who teaches the elves how to work magic into the smithing better. however, none of the big name elves on this show fall for his bullshit, especially not Galadriel and they seem to be building some sort of a redemption story between her and Halbrand already so I'd be surprised. if they end up turning the Stranger into Gandalf I'll bet you anything they turn Halbrand into Aragorn so the Southland have a united force before the War. there's a lot of misdirection right now, it'll all depend on how safe they want to play it. Halbrand could be anything from your cliche hero redemption to one of the Nine.
Quick google search says Aragorn is a descendent of a ~56% Elf, Elros - and his descendants did get "unusually long life spans." But idk if that's long enough for him to be essentially the same age in this show as he looks in LotR... considering they kinda aged him a decent amount in the trilogy and Elrond has the convo with Arwen about how she'll outlive him by a country mile.
numenoreans had longer lives than other humans - like 200+ years? i think it was a gift from the Valar for their role in the first war
I think he was around 100 in the LOTR books. Been a long time. But still this show is supposed to be thousands of years before those events right?
yeah this show is like 3000+ years before LOTR i think aragorn was around 80-100 in the books/tv show, and he lives to be like 250years old or some shit before he dies
Sure but isn't Aragorn a descendant of Isildur? I don't think they are going to compress it that much.
I still don't really understand what Amazon can and can't use in this show. So that makes it hard to know where this will go.
The timeline is so out of whack it'll be interesting. Celebrimbor forges the rings like 1500 years before Elendil is born. We've met Elindil and the rings are barely, if even, a concept
it made sense in my head but I really should have put "an Aragorn". they're not actually going to turn him into the Aragorn but if they play it safe then he'll just be the hero redemption story and the king the Southlands rallies behind. his family made an oath to Morgoth, does he break it and redeem his line or does he fall to corruption and become one of the Nine? if you write this bleakly then the Stranger is Saruman and Halbrand is a future Nazgul and we get to watch as Sauron slowly corrupts them both. if you write it with a happy ending that's Gandalf and an Aragorn-like character. the last 10ish posts shouldn't have happened, my b.
I love it. Seeing Numenor was awesome. I’m all about a slow burn because ultimately we know what’s coming.
forgot to mention this but I love that the budget for this show is allowing them to show some of these places I've only ever been able to imagine in my head. Numenor is absolutely gorgeous.
Love it so far. Just did some googling to realize who half the characters are in LOTR movies. That’ll make it even more interesting, going forward.
At this point the show has me dreading the end of each episode because I can’t wait to see what happens. So well done.
I feel like I need to do this. I’m picking up on some but uncertain. Someone needs to put together a list with pictures.
I haven’t read the appendices in nearly 20ish years, so I’ve been getting a refresher from Nerd of the Rings. Solid breakdowns https://m.youtube.com/c/NerdoftheRings
This is great. Does this mean we are somewhere around 3300 in the 2nd Age since Numenor had already turned on the elves then, but started understanding the elves positive role again, Sauron was rising, and Isildor lived?
Based on that synopsis it does feel that even if it is all over the place, we are around 3200-3350 with the key players and events.
With the Numenoreans that's true, the elves, not so much. Celebrimbor forged the rings of power in like 1500
Saw the title of the episode and without knowing what happens can’t help but think about the video from yesterday and the wave that was sent by the elves to Numenor.
