I think that's supposed to be him. Your recollection is correct. He took the form of a man and went by Annatar.
are LOTR fans going to make a run at Star Wars fans for most toxic fanbase? to answer my own question, no way Star Wars fans are the absolute worst, but LOTR fans seems like they're going to be pretty annoying.
Yeah thing more GOT book community, although obviously smarter for having read a much better-developed and written story
Is there another thread? if not FYI Free screenings https://www.cinemark.com/the-lord-o...paign=4912498-082122-amazon-rings-of-power-cs
Social media reaction to the first two episodes seems to be very positive. Everyone is saying it is absolutely visually stunning.
I think VFX and CGI on a $500 million dollar season of TV is the last of most worries But that first line is encouraging!
Absolutely recommend. I've seen the first two episodes and thought they did a fantastic job with establishing characters and worlds.
First of all it’s fucking beautiful, rivals the main trilogy. First two episodes are excellent l, this is gonna be awesome.
Only way a series like this was possible is as a vanity play by Amazon or Apple. There’s no way anyone turns a profit on this series. Between purchasing the rights, production, and promotion…Amazon has spent around $1 billion on this so far.
First episode is good. CGI is realllllllly good. Best I’ve seen in a while. a little confused on timeline here Spoiler how far pre LotR is this? The places we see in middle earth in this episode are just pre-“modern” right? Also, the elves sponsored by green man brewing- who are they? Watchman in that area to make sure the evil doesn’t come back but are in the process of being recalled?
I struggle with it being him because of Nori’s speech about her responsibility unless she is just going to get so fucked over. Also, it’s hard for me to imagine that the big bad isn’t running things with the orcs and blight. I was thinking Gandalf, but apparently there weren’t wizards in the 2nd Age. Thoughts that it still may be some earlier form of possibility though. I like this theory and would also explain Gandalfs connection with Hobbits. https://www.gamesradar.com/who-is-stranger-lord-of-the-rings-rings-of-power/
IMDB reviews are much lower than what I would expect. I can’t help but wonder if that is racists taking issue with some of the casting.
a little bit of that, but probably also neck beard redditors who claim it’s not true to the “books” like all of these shows and movies. Although, my understanding is this is based solely of appendices only? either way, views is all Amazon cares about
I was thinking that also, but unlike something like WoT or the other Tolkien works this is so open ended and it would be harder for any group to have a unified opinion on what’s supposed to happen and who is in it. Still probably some of that, but I have seen a high correlation with content that takes any kind of progressive stance on race and groups who give it 1 ratings. IMO this already starts a lot stronger than the Hobbit which was unwatchable at times. Don’t get me wrong, I watched it multiple times, but it was very flawed.
This seems to be the trend for a lot of highly anticipated shows. People will vote them down before hey even see it.
You’re probably right, but don’t under estimate these weirdos they’ll say things like character x would never say that. It’s not their personality bitch, how the f would you know what character x would say? They’re a footnote in a throwaway paragraph in a 700 page novel
Just looked on Twitter and it is much worse than I thought. yes, this is about race and misogyny. This country sucks so bad.
Episode 1 was solid, episode 2 very much feels like one of those shows that could’ve been incredible but Amazon/prime did their thing and it feels very corny.
This show, more than most, deserved time to sit with each episode, imo. There’s going to be way too much to dig into each week for a big drop of episodes. I am a major proponent of weekly episodes and hate binging/dropping a season all at once, so feel free to completely ignore anything I say on the matter
We enjoyed both episodes this week. I’m currently reading the LOTR series, which has been fun. Haven’t read them through since the films came out
First two eps were great. The hype around the visuals was justified. Is Theo the Arondir’s kid with Bronwyn? The actors somewhat resemble one another in the face and the story about Theo’s absentee father was suspect. curious if the sword is Sauron’s or if it just has his mark on it. Seemed like it had some sort of “Sauron GPS” like the Ring in the trilogy
Agree totally. It's beautifully shot and the CGI is top tier but I didn't love episode two. I'm worried that they're more concerned with capturing great looking scenes than writing compelling dialogue. I'm interested enough and think it has the potential to be really good that I'm going to keep watching. The first two eps get a 3/5
it's probably a Maiar and I would guess one of the Istari. very important to remember that Amazon does not own the rights to the Silmarillion, the Tolkien estate essentially demanded they only draw off what is in LOTR and the appendices so despite the fact that the Istari didn't come to Middle-Earth before the Third Age, they probably do in this show. show looks phenomenal for the most part (that armor killed immersion for me, it's like what humans would smith not damn high elves) but think it's best if you view it on its own and only very loosely related in any way to the books because some of these characters are almost new on their own despite you having heard of them because most of them are already nothing like their book characters.
What/who is the meteor man supposed to be? Cause I saw the original in the 90s and there's no topping it.
I just watched the first episode. Loved it but the first comment was I’ve seen two episodes. Trying to not be spoiled. Is there 2?
Went back and rewatched a trailer after viewing the first two episodes. Looks like a long journey ahead and can’t wait for it. These episodes did a great job of introducing the characters and storylines. Galadrial’s got it going on.
yes but not how you think. Hobbits are related to Men, at some point a long time ago they branched off and you had Hobbits, which is basically a genus which sits under the family of Men. then you had several Hobbit species: the Stoors, the Fallohides, and the Harfoots, all quite distinct from one another in appearance and temperament. as time went on in the Second Age and passing into the Third Age, the three kinds of Hobbits kept moving west as the evil that was brewing in the east drove them that way. they eventually all ended up in the Shire and there interbreeding turned them into the Hobbits you know from LOTR, although the Harfoots sort of took over Hobbit culture (like how they live in burrows) so most of what you see around the time of LOTR is Harfoot-influenced. Stoors lived by water, fished, swam, etc. and Smeagol was a Stoor, for example, which explains his affinity for fish and how he found the Ring in the first place. Frodo, Bilbo, Pippin, and Merry are all of Fallohide descent as Fallohides were the most adventurous and friendliest of Hobbits. Sam was a Harfoot, his family had a long history as gardeners and people who knew how to cultivate which is how the Harfoots got by. Tolkien wrote them this way to show that their ancestors influence still leaked in despite them all being basically the same appearance by the time the TA was really rolling.
Read Somewhere they cant use the word hobbits. Spoiler maybe they're gonna change the history and it's Gandalf
