looked through my current playthrough. here's mods that are just QOL: -auto deconstruct -power grid comb (just gives you a tool to make your power lines a bit neater. completely aesthetic stuff) -tapeline -squeak through -vehiclesnap generally i say avoid blueprints while you're learning but there's a lot of belt balancer blueprints that i'd recommend using. One I use is a blueprint book of 1x1 to 8x8 that there's really no reason to have to figure out how to do on your own. not that some of the larger balancers may not work with yellow or red belts because of the decreased distance of underground belts. https://factorioprints.com/view/-KjZ17-ZfirKJBYRQT9X
if you have played the mod Planet Exploration then a lot of it feels familiar; which also makes sense because Wube hired the SE mod developer to work on Factorio.
Just bought cyberpunk on steam sale. Maxed out the graphics just for shits with my 2070s and got 10fps. Thinking it’s time to upgrade.
I have no idea how any of this works but my kid wanted a gaming PC for Christmas. I didn't want to spend much right off the bat to make sure he is going to like it versus his consoles but here is what I ordered for $425.00. Is this going to be worth a shit for a starter PC? GPU GTX 950/960 2 GB Form Factor Tower Operating System Edition Professional Operating System WINDOWS 10 pro 64 bit Features USB WIRELESS ADAPTER, Built-in Speakers, Optical Drive Hard Drive Capacity 1 TB SSD RAM Size 32 GB RAM Processor Speed 3.2 GHZ OR 3.6 GHZ Brand GAMEPOWER Series ELITE PHOENIX Motherboard Model H81 MOTHERBOARD Type Desktop Model PHOENIX ELITE Connectivity DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 Storage Type SSD Product Line ELITE
He is 10. Plays a bunch of Fortnite and Roblox and stuff like that. Will it be okay for that or will I be ordering another PC in a couple of months?
Well consider that you’re getting an entire computer for the price of an upper-mid modern graphics card.
Like a good power supply is $100 (or it was the last time I bought one) and that’s one component you really shouldn’t skimp on.
All that said, if you aren’t sure if he will even play it then get some cheap crap then next Christmas you can buy good components and help him build his own if he’s really into it. That’s kinda the nice thing about computers is you can upgrade bits and pieces once you have a good baseline.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I was going for. If he likes it, I don't mind spending whatever on it to make it good but also don't want to spend thousands of dollars for it to collect dust in the corner of the room. If it's functional and he can decide whether he likes it or not and is he doesn't then at worst I am only out less than a thousand dollars on everything.
it should be fine for roblox. it might struggle a bit with fortnight, especially if he's trying to play at 1080p
Finally finished the Factorio tutorial. Got started on a free play last night. I am not very good at planning things out.
Reminds me of trying to play Cities Skylines for the first time, had no clue what i was doing. Need to go back to that game, and about a billion others.
Name P. Redacted PeterGriffin and anyone else who plays Factorio, do y’all ever just delete everything and reorganize your base? I unlocked the construction robots this weekend and just decided to delete and restart everything since it was such a spaghetti cluster fuck. Using the robots to breakdown everything was pretty cool.
decided to try cyberpunk. i use esdf to move instead of wasd. can't get my preferred binds to work. do some googling. for some reason cd projekt red thought it would be a good idea to forcebind f as the use function, so you have to go into some config file and edit stuff manually if you want to change that. great start so far.
Spidertron rules. What also rules is making a spider tron army and sending them to clear biter nests or to build stuff.
Looking to upgrade my monitor, the one I have just turned 7 years old, 22", 1080p, etc. My system is from 2020, has a 3060Ti in it, so not top of the line anymore but it deserves something better for its pixels than this. Who has a monitor they would recommend? Not worrying about price or specs right now, just want to see what y'all have that you love
Yeah that was one thing I was considering, ultrawide/21:9 versus the traditional 16:9. What are the specs on yours?
yeah that is definitely my starting point and seeing what I can do from there, 4K/120 would be ideal and I might need to sacrifice size for it
the cutting edge stuff of 2 years or so ago is starting to become very attainable...240 or even 300+hz is becoming quite common. Dell just put 120hz in their premium panel/pixel perfect U series monitors. My 27" 1440p at 144hz retailed for $600 in about 2016...a Dell model. There are Dell options sold under their G brand which would be more budget and easy to recommend. If you want to stretch your budget and go higher end, like IowaHuskerFan3 said, go Alienware or even Alienware OLED.
Looks like samsung just pre-announced this for CES. Expect pricing and availability within 10 days. This would cost between $1200ish last year, imo Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) Specs 32" Flat-Screen Gaming Monitor 3840 x 2160 (UHD) Resolution 240Hz Refresh Rate 0.03ms GTG Response Time VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 AMD FreeSync Premium Pro Samsung Smart TV Support Samsung Gaming Hub Support Samsung Core Lighting+ Support 2 x HDMI 2.1 Ports 1 x DP 1.4 Ports 1 x USB-Hub
I got a 100hz 27" Acer for $90 at best buy a few weeks ago. Nothing special but I saw the price and was like fuck it
I could be wrong, but I think it still takes a powerful machine to run greater than 144hz for Ultra settings. I’ve got a 27” dell 155hz and some gigabyte 27” I use for PS5 I’ve got a 3070 Ti and not many games hit the 155. Tho I think my CPU holds me back. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
I've played 4 or 5 hours of it and really enjoy it. Also playing Dredge and Laika right now, and would say I like Laika way more. All 3 fantastic games imo
Couldn’t resist the Steam sale any longer. Bought the latest map expansions to American Truck Simulator. Bought Timberborn. Bought KSP2 since they released the Science update. And bought City Skylines 2. Had been holding off on those last two especially given rough launches, but didn’t want to wait any longer.
