Played Omni La Costa in Carlsbad yesterday. Was the home of the Tournament of Champions for a few decades. Then hosted the match play for a few years. They spent the past year redoing the champions course. It’s completed and ready for the men’s and women’s NCAA championships the next 3 years. They’re not letting members play it until after the 2024 championship takes place next month. Excited to get out there after that. Will whoop my ass.

Played my first Stranz course today. Missed one fairway, hit the ball great all day, fantastic distance control, 80. Pin placements were obscene
Played 2 outside Myrtle beach last fall. Played great golf over 3 days and 4 rounds and shot 81, 77, 80 and 79. Fun courses but tough to score on
had some yips recently off the tee so took a lesson, it's incredible what your body is doing during your swing that you don't even realize. seeing video of what i thought i was doing versus reality immediately helped me fix it and started hitting bombs. ball speed up to 160-165 my left heel was coming off the ground before my downswing causing me to early extend like crazy and i had no idea

Played in Indian Wells today. Under a damn wind advisory. 30-40mph winds with gusts to 65. I hit two houses. Zero GIRs. 16.1 HCP so I’m not good, but was hoping for a few GIRs on an easy ass track. Never played in wind like that. Preparing me for fsu-gt Ireland trip I guess.
Big rock. Little course with a damn rock bar connected to the pro shop. Got so in my head with the wind and hitting houses I was playing knock down 5i off the tee. On the other hand it was $45 and I played by myself in 2h25m. Loved that. Played with my gf’s dad and her bros back in January. Couple pga west courses. $300+. Midwesterners driving me out of my sport. I could’ve broken 80 and still been disappointed because of price.
It is a spectacular setting, so many holes I walked up to the tee and thought I can’t believe he found a way to make a golf hole out of this The pin on 10 was on the back bottom tier, two guys in my group putted past the flag, couldn’t get the ball to stop and rolled all the way down into the green on 12 lmao
advice on how to best approach acquiring a beginner set of clubs? Go with the 400 dollar Wilson or Strata set on Amazon or look for used on marketplace etc

All you need to do is watch the youtube videos where pro players take the worst and cheapest clubs imaginable and go play better than you ever will with them to dissuade yourself from buying expensive equipment.
I started with the Strata set and just added to it. Upgraded the driver and then added a couple hybrids and then wedges. Then finally got new irons after a couple years. IMO a few lessons are a better return on investment rather than the extra couple hundred on a nicer set.
check out some nearby thrift shops etc and you might be able to find a few decent clubs for practically nothing or estate/garage sales where sometimes people sell shit like Scotty Camerons for cheap without realizing
