If i played enough to gain consistency, im sure they probably would. When i bought them i was replacing 20 plus year old irons, probably didnt need to but i wanted to. I was intending on getting more serious but a bunch of injuries prevented that so now is the first season ill be able to play semi healthy. So i guess I'll find out.
I don't keep an official handicap but my scores are indeed lower. My good shots are way, way better. I can play in a scramble with a scratch golfer and have my iron/hybrid shots be used, which never used to happen Like most though, I'm losing most of my shots on chipping/putting and occasional blow up holes But it's a lot more fun having the confidence now to know that I can make these shots when I never used to have that
Same and I hard stepped the KBS shafts. This is my 3rd set of Mizunos. When I got fitted a couple years ago, I wanted to try and get something else but Mizuno had the best numbers while maintaining some forgiveness.
They've lowered mine by abt 3 strokes (now a 12.7). In fairness, I was also using irons from 10 yrs ago but these have a great mix of forgiveness and feel. Like ohhaithur mentiones above, the ball striking has given me much more confidence. And also like him, my scores are what they are because of a lost drive/blow up hole, or a chunked chip or two.
Played for the first time in a few months (only 10 holes) and had some shitty lies. Also had one of the best bunker shots of my life. Fried egg Close to the edge of the bunker wall and short sided. Put it to about 5 feet. Missed the putt ended up +11 over 10 holes with a triple and 2 doubles which I was happy with.
MP64 checking in. Had the old MX-20s before these. Going on 10 years old, but I love the way these play
I am very pleasant. Don’t care about my score personally, and like to have fun. I am definitely going to play, just making light of being awful and getting asked to play with new people.
I bought the Callaway Paradym X driver tonight. Had a range session after. I’d like to find the lead engineer of this club and shake their hand
Agreed on the Ludvig point, but it also brings up a larger question around youth in golf. For decades prior to Tiger’s arrival, professional golf was a veteran’s game where Tour players needed considerable experience under their belts before they were able to finally win on Tour. Obviously Tiger threw that narrative for a loop individually, but it really wasn’t until the Rory, Brooks, Spieth, etc group of young players showed that many young players can dominate the professional game as a collective. At the time, many chalked it up as “well this group is just special from a talent standpoint vs its previous counterparts”. It’s interesting to now see another class of youngsters able to even usurp those guys. Which brings up the larger question - is professional golf now a game more tailored to the younger, inexperienced pool of players? And if so, why? Distance gains? Scar tissue - physical and mental - for the experienced players?
maybe its like Rick Vaughn in Major League 2 where once the money starts piling up and you start having more obligations in your life both personally and professionally it makes it harder overall to maintain that same edge
kids these days grew up in a data tracking era. Much quicker to get to your physical peak when you have been focused on it since you were 8.
The scar tissue argument is real. Young players coming in fearless and hungry, achieving great heights, and then questioning if they can get back to that after a period of struggle is very real. Being 23 and licking your chops at an eight footer is very different than being 33 and thinking "Fuck, I better not miss this."
Well let’s hope Ludvig can keep smiling while hitting balls in the water on day 4 of Augusta chasing a jacket.
also Morgan Hoffmann is 1 back of the lead at the KFT tournament https://www.golfdigest.com/story/morgan-hoffmann-costa-rica-muscular-dystrophy
Crazy. A sophomore in HS I'd guess? That shits gotta be humbling to the 30 something year old guys on the KFT that have been grinding mini tours for a decade
I only know about him because he did a video with Grant Horvat. He's the #1 junior in the country and broke some of Tiger's old junior records.
I golfed in Lakewood Ranch once, was called Legacy I think. You can drive the cart through the bunkers that was weird
Just found out our club pro is competing in the pga professionals event in Frisco next week. This is the event he came in the top 5 to play in the PGA Championship last year. I’m going to be in Dallas working during that time so I’m going up to catch up play a round. Hope he can put together another solid performance.
Played a combo of the front tees and the second tees (usually play the. 4th of 5) and had a blast! Shot 81 and my handicap moved from. 15.2 to 15.5. May just keep playing the short tees for a while. Highly recommend it.
Played the forward tees for 9 with my son today and shot a 40. Turned around and played the 1 ups when he got tired for the second 9 and shot a 41. Dumb game.
This Heritage is a hell of a way to capitalize off of Masters momentum Wish we would have ever gotten to see Tiger at this place. If he wants to win he should be lobbying to get in the Valspar, Harbortown, and the like
