my top ten books in no order. the art of war, slaughter house five, catcher in the rye, the rum diary, i hope they serve beer in hell, killing pablo, the blind side, confessions of an ecomonic hitman, sperm wars, why we get sick.
I'll have to attempt to read some books more often and check some of those out. If a book is enjoyable I have no problem reading. I think I just hated books because in school you'd get assigned some stupid ass book and be forced to read it... Edit: sparknotes it because I got about half way through and wanted to kill myself.
I've only read half of those. I read The Art of War awhile back. I've been really into Russian Lit lately.
Some books I've read recently: The Day of the Jackal, Icon, Avenger, & The Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth A Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy Fatherland by Robert Harris Killer Angels by Michael Shaara Would recommend each and every one of those books in addition to Band of Brothers and Citizen Soldiers which I read a while back. On my list to read is The Lone Survivor and Tony Dungy's book.
in no order: the glory field, the sound and the fury, catch 22, catcher in the rye, slaughterhouse 5, in cold blood, 1984, a clockwork orange, east of eden and one flew over the cuckoo's nest
yeah agree. but i wait for books i want to read to get real cheap so if it ends up sucking i only spent 3 bucks.
One book I can say that I did like was To Kill A Mockingbird. I don't know what level it is on for you but I liked it. But then again it seems like you guys have read many more books than I haha
My top 10 right now would be something like The Catcher in the Rye - Salinger Band of Brothers - Ambrose The Giver - Lowry Blood Meridian - McCarthy The Brothers Karamazov - Dostoyevsky Crime and Punishment - Dostoyevsky The Road - McCarthy 1984 - Orwell Catch 22 - Heller Of Mice and Men - Steinbeck Honorable Mention Night - Eisel The Idiot - FD
shit i forgot about of mice and men...i didn't want to have duplicate authors on my list and I already had east of eden, so I guess that's my rationale.
I've read Of Mice and Men as well. I think I just forget what books I read because they were required for courses and did it more for the fact that I HAD to read it instead of wanting to read it.
(frantically adds books mentioned in this thread to a "to read" list) Some of my favorites throughout the years were: Autobiography of Malcolm X & Roots - Alex Haley 1984 - Orwell A Clockwork Orange - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell Crime & Punishment - Doskoevsky Slaughterhouse 5 - Vonnegut Ender's Game Fear & Loathing in LV - HST Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand Animal Farm - Orwell As I Lay Dying - Faulkner Every book by Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island, etc)
He has so many good ones... Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov(My favorite), The Idiot, The Devils, The Gambler, etc.
also ben mezrich's books are pretty good. ugly americans, bringing down the house, rigged, busting vegas.
God damn I love this board! Hilarity, hijinx, sexy bitches & book suggestions! Ecclectic yet amazing.
And not to mention at 530 in the morning all of this at once, makes it that much harder to close my laptop and fall asleep, but then again i'm not tired even after only getting 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night.
One of my favorite things about this board is there are some intelligent people on here. Maybe, and this might be stretching it, 3 of my friends have even ever heard of Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
I've heard that The Graduate is better but I've never read the book. Yeah the Godfather and part II are probably better...
Where the Red Fern Grows was a pretty good book they made us read in school. I hated a Separate Piece though...
I also want to read Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. The movie Shooter with Mark Wahlberg was made after it.
Yep. Never was a fan... Kind of weird that we had a kid named John Knowles in my class when we read that. I think he dropped out though because I don't remember him being there all year.
