It's been mentioned a couple times. Two or three of his books are in my top 10. Definitely C and P and The Brothers Karamazov which is my favorite by him.
Halfway through the second of the Dexter series. Excellent reads, especially if you're a fan of the show. Another book I loved that I forgot about was The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson & Robert Shea. It's the Bible of conspiracy theory, but is more like a spoof of it than anything. Incredible book. http://www.amazon.com/Illuminatus-Trilogy-Pyramid-Golden-Leviathan/dp/0440539811/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245059428&sr=8-1
I just finished Follet's "The Pillars of the Earth." I thought it was great, but I'm sort of a medieval history dork though. Just started "Homicide" by David Simon. So far it seems like it will be a good read. I have tons of free time this summer, so I've been writing down some of the suggestions in this thread. Looking forward to reading some of the classics that I never have before.
Catch 22, Catcher in the Rye, 1984, Lord of the Flies, Where the Red Fern Grows, I Hope they Serve Beer in Hell, A Clockwork Orange, The Chronicles of Narnia, One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest, Killer Angels are all great books. I read As I lay Dying when I was younger and didnt really like it but probably because I didnt really understand it. I should probably read it again. Always wanted to read Crime and Punishment and War and Peace, jsut never sat down and did it due to their length, probably should though.
Gladwell is really good. I read "Blink" about a year ago and am currently reading "The Tipping Point. Really fascinating.
Is there a way to get on it without an invitation? I have never used a P2P site before. Sorry if the question is completely retarded.
I feel like they don't have a very big selection so far...it's def. easy to upload stuff though. Prob not enough users to seed a lot yet.
A book that I recently read that I highly recommend is Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. It was one of the best books I've ever read and I'm constantly reading. Supposedly the Wachowski brothers are working on a screen play. Michael Chabon has also written some great books. If I had to make a list of favorites.... Les Miserables 1984 Animal Farm Great Expectations The Divine Comedy
if at all interested in the philosophy of war and conflict must reads: Sun Tzu's The Art of War von Clausewitz's On War go to retired AF Colonel Jon Boyd's wikipedia page and look over slide show 'Patterns of Conflict.' it analyzes said philosophies and previous conflicts. Boyd's biography is also a good read (Coram).
Peter Singer is a fucking scumbag who thinks we should kill mentally retarded, handicapped and deformed babies because it is more humane then letting them live. If there is a hell, Peter Singer will burn in it.
Sounds like a second-hand account told to a reactionary [you] by another reactionary. Try reading his books first. You may want to start with Practical Ethics.
I am going to purchase, and start reading Brothers Karamazov today. If I don't like it, for any reason, someone in this thread will die. It is because of people on here talking about it, that I am going to read it.
On a big Cormac McCarthy kick right now. Just breezed through No Country for Old Men and now onto Outer Dark. UA, can I get an invite?
Haha I need to. I just tried to cheat the system and got fucked. Was gonna download a torrance that had some leechers but it turns out someone that already is seeding it has a seedbox.
Well first you need to find ebooks. You can upload anything that is allowed, so check the rules out. I hear audiobooks are a great idea because they are bigger. Then you just go into utorrent and create new torrance. Go into upload on biblio and follow all the instructions. It takes maybe 2 minutes. If you need any help let me know. I'm about to upload as much Clancy as I can.
Chan. I am trying to upload a torrance file to utorrent, it asks me for a tracker URL. I've never uploaded anything. So can you explain this to me and whether it is needed or not.
go to upload next to publishers, and copy the "Your personal announce URL", put that url in the tracker url on utorrent.
Ok hit the upload button on bib and it will give you a personal url that looks like this: http://bibliotik.org/announce.php?passkey=bunchofnumbersandletters Put that in the tracker url and then follow the instructions in the upload menu on bib and you should be good.
