I've got a lovely couch if you're interested. A cat will be watching you. It's right by The Cellar Bar, a popular TMB hangout.
Light rail sounds awesome. Will stay downtown. Plan to gorge myself on tacos al carbon and margs at Ninfa’s on gameday so that will work out well. just gotta, you know, win the Rose Bowl…
Well the good news is, we will already have some good info and recs in here for UM fans if that were to transpire!
Truth is good. There's a Killen's now over off Washington, and then Pinkerton's BBQ is the other one that's in the heights-ish area thats worth a trip. Can't really go wrong with any of those three, but if I had to pick one I'd probably go Pinkerton's.
Also make a reservation at Street to kitchen for some fire thai food. Right off the green line in the East End.
I like pinkertons more than truth. Their jalapeño sausage and duck jambalaya is daddi If you’re going to get truth, make sure you order curbside online. The line will be 100 people long.
Just gorge yourself on el tiempo fajitas and margaritas until you vomit like the rest of us fine gentlemen.
El Tiempo was the first time I had ever had filet mignon fajitas with the drawn butter like that. It’s something.
Anyone else going to this tech @ Uh game tonight? One of my tech friends got tickets from his wife for Christmas and I’m going because she doesn’t want to
Interesting, that's pretty close to where i live, will check it out sometime. And now i may do pizza for lunch ;) Better than Nonno's and Gypsy Poet?
Still haven't been, but love Nobies and have heard good things. And have seen a lot of foodies hype on instagram. But good to know your thoughts, too, do appreciate an honest take.
alison cook went and she was unimpressed as well. i was pretty excited for it bc i enjoy toasted coconut, but yeah it stinks
If you don't follow Prop B stuff, shame on you, read up on it. If you do, the surrounding counties basically said "fuck you" to Houston today and will not agree to reform HGAC, which makes most of the major policy decisions for the region (stuff like flood, nonstop highway expansion, etc). Will be interesting to see how Whitmire leads.
Did you get the chicken tacos? Also I just had lunch at carrabbas on Kirby. The original location and holy shit I forgot how good that place was.
Some people--especially in other cities/states--don't realize how good the original location is and how much better it is than the chains up north. And i used to get 2 chicken tacos everytime i went to the Pit Room, but now get 1 chicken and 1 brisket. Seems like they use the same chicken and brisket for the enchiladas at Candente, which are great, too.
Yeah, that one and the one off Woodway are lightyears better than the chains. Carrabbas fucks. Also, I'm a huge Pit Room fan. I put them up against any other BBQ in town.
It's pretty amazing to me the quality of BBQ options in town now, as well as in Texas overall (more on that another time). Growing up, the only options really were Goode Co and Demeris, along with Luther's and Pappa's later, yet now there are so many great options to choose from. And i like many of them--Truth, Corkscrew, Pinkerton's, Feges, Gatlin's, Pit Room, etc--and won't fault anyone if they claim a favorite or two among the rest. But wil hold a grudge if you have friends/family coming to town and you propose Goode Co, Pappa's BBQ, or Demeris as an option when there are so many more better options to choose from these days (and I'll readily admit that i've hit up some of those 3 at times over the years, as well). The Goode, Pappas, and Demeris/Vlahakos families have been great for the city over the years, too; totally not trying to speak ill of them. Just pointing out how many great options we have now.
Apparently I missed out on these tacos. We got ribs, brisket, jalapeño sausage, and pulled pork. Few sides and some Lone Stars. And yes the original Carrabba's does indeed fuck.
Agreed on all points, but yeah, being that Goode Co was probably the best option we had growing up, I will definitely still crave some of their food from time to time. Its different from the really high quality stuff that Pit Room, Pinkerton's, Feges, etc are pumping out, but its still great in its own way.
