Re: The Wire everyone hates it because it goes from the streets in season 1 to more of the docks. Season 2 sets up the rest of the series, and has a lot of great parts
Re: The Wire I'm thinking about re-watching the series for a third time and was considering skipping the second season, but I can't.
Re: The Wire this. I feel that The Wire is a really good show from the 1st episode and becomes a great show Spoiler especially when guys like Cool Lester Smooth and Prez show what they can do and then becomes the GOAT Spoiler what show says "fuck you" to 2 of the 3 main characters in the 2nd season and still keeps viewers watching? only The Wire
Re: The Wire Spoiler and also introduces a completely new area and cast for Season 2 and then chucks the deuces at every major new character they introduced that year other than Vondus and the Greek. Killed off Frank and we didn't see Nicky or Ziggy again and then the lady cop who's name I'm somehow forgetting didn't show up again until season 4 or 5 and only in spurts
Re: The Wire exactly. Spoiler one of my favorite little things about the show is how Nicky is in Season 5 for like 10 seconds...he yells at Carcetti that he's destroying the city, etc. and when Carcetti asks Crawczyk who he Nicky is, Crawczyk replies "nobody."......the same fucking guy who is basically the star of all of Season 2 might be time to go through another re-watching.
Re: The Wire re-watched season 2 on directv and it's better than i remember i think we all wanted more emphasis on stringer/avon/d'angelo/mcnulty/bunk and when they went away from that i took it out on the sobatka's and that loser ziggy
Re: The Wire Season 2 is the most important/essential season for the show. You really can't appreciate it until you see the entire body of work.
Re: The Wire In retrospect, and I think I'll feel this way when I watch season 2 again soon, it was a good and necessary storyline. But the first time I saw it I was pretty disappointed in how they jumped from the hood to the docks so suddenly. It just through me off I guess.
Re: The Wire I just started Season 4 of The Sopranos, and while I love it, the difference between The Wire and The Sopranos was The Wire's ability to tie almost every loose end. I'm in Season 4 of The Sopranos and there are some loose ends that just haven't been addressed Spoiler (who the fuck was the Elvis look-alike guy that Pussy killed after seeing him at the party store?) The Wire's loose ends are more subtle and aren't meant to be tied, but to make the viewer keep their view of the character in the back of their head. For instance, Spoiler when you see Rawls in a gay bar once and then it's never addressed again. The characters in the show knew nothing about it but the viewers had that element to add to the character.
Re: The Wire yea love those things Spoiler -the white chick copping in Hamsterdam ending up in rehab with Bubs -Kennard playing Omar -the 'Rawls sucks cock' on the bathroom door -Randy being Cheese's kid - Savino coming back to work for Marlo
Re: The Wire For those of you just starting this let me tell you my experience. I had hardy even heard of the show until I came on this board and saw it mentioned basically everyday. I ended up DLing all the eps and watched the whole series in under 3 wks. I watched one whole season on one Sunday alone. I was basically obsessed with the show and cant wait to rewatch it soon. Amazing shit.
Re: The Wire that was kind of me too. One of my best friends kept saying how great it was and I kept ignoring him like it can't be better than 24 (although this was before 24 turned to garbage. Think it was in like 06). Happened to be at blockbuster one day and saw the 1st season and decided to pick up the first 2 sets of episodes, think it was like 1-6 or something. Watched them and was kind of interested until episode like 5 or 6 when I got hooked. Didn't have a comp at the time so I went back and got the rest of the season and ended up watching the first 2 or 3 seasons in like 1 week and staying up till like 4 AM some days even though I had to be at work at 7.
Re: The Wire Yeah I am already hooked. After my CPA exam yesterday watched 7 episodes of it. 6 left from the first season.
Re: The Wire Almost the exact same experience. Friend kept talking it up through Season 3 so I got the first two seasons from Netflix; by the time I got to Season 2 I was looking like a crackhead at the mailbox waiting for that Netflix envelope. Spoiler And in my most humble of vaginas Season 2 provides two of the most underrated scenes of the entire series: Omar's testimony w/ the exchange between him and Levy and the "Love Child" scene with Ziggy in the bar. Love that shit.
Re: The Wire i started watching season 2 again while i'm waiting on season 4 to get here...it really is much better upon second viewing...especially after watching season 3
Re: The Wire Marlo was on opie and anthony today. They talked for a long time, mostly about The Wire. Anthony mentioned that when they had Omar on the show he said the hardest scene to watch was when Bodie died, Marlo said his was when Prop Joe died. He said it took forever to shoot that scene because he couldnt spit out his lines because he was so focused on what Joe was saying Love it when they have Wire castmembers on, they're huge wire fans and usually bring up how they were never given awards because the show was so edgy and hollywood is full of pussies, but a lot of actors love watching the wire
Re: The Wire Yeah this must be it because almost through 2 seasons I would say 1>2. The first half of 2 is pretty slow introducing everyone else.
Re: The Wire Yeah, I didn't really enjoy Season 2 the first time I watched it. But as the series progressed and I looked back on the whole body of work, I appreciated it more and more. It's not the most exciting season by any means, but it is absolutely essential to the story.
Re: The Wire OK, I am three quarters of the way through the first season. Was intersted in watching it based on some of what I have read and the posts on TMB. Have to say, I am pretty unimpressed. Don't get me wrong - its a decent show. But its really slow. Its not near the same level as Sopranos or even Boardwalk Empire. Oh, and I am not an "all action" person either. I like for there to be some story and character development to it. I hope this picks up.
Re: The Wire Nah, like I said. I like good stories, character development, etc. I don't need much in the way of action at all. But, so far, this has been pretty damn boring.
Re: The Wire i do too, however, i feel the same way about Boardwalk Empire as you do about The Wire. i'm only through 7 episodes, but i guess i like drug dealing stories over white bootleggers.
Re: The Wire No, vast minority amongst the public at-large. I can think of one person I know out of the hundreds that have watched it that was "meh" about it.
Re: The Wire Well, reading some of the other posts, it sounds like other posters needed some time to get into the series. My problem is that I am trying my best to keep my wife interested in it (easier for me to watch if she likes it also).
Re: The Wire still the hardest thing scene for me to watch. Spoiler fuckin Wallace had it coming though.
Re: The Wire idk why, the hardest thing for me to watch is Spoiler greggs getting shot in season 1. that entire scene felt so real, almost brings me to tears every time
Re: The Wire Where the fuck is Wallace? Huh? String! STRING! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! WHERE THE FUCK IS WALLACE?
Re: The Wire Thats a tough one but Spoiler the Wallace Scene and then later on *real spoiler alert* Spoiler when Bodie gets shot. That really messed me up too but the hardest scene for me to watch even to this day is at the end of Season 5 after Mike shot Snoop and had to go on the run and he dropped Bug off at his aunt's place. That almost brought a tebow tear
Re: The Wire Almost through 4 and for me no contest the best season thus far is one. Maybe it is because I liked Avon/Stringer/Wee Bay/DeAngelo and that whole crew better than Marlo and certainly better than the Russians but still an outstanding series without a doubt.
Re: The Wire Wait till your done with 4, it still might not be your favorite but it really comes through at the end 1 is great to, its probably my 2nd favorite
Re: The Wire Only 2 more episodes of 4, will probably be done with it tonight. I have a feeling of where 5 is going (Greeks back involved) but still will be hard to top 1 but we will see.
Re: The Wire Most people don't like season 5, but I enjoyed it. Definitely the weakest, but it was still really enjoyable for me.
Re: The Wire Jag- Don't give up. I wasn't hooked on the show until the last few episodes of season one. Season two also starts slow and picks up. 3, 4, and 5 were all a bit quicker, with 4 being ridiculous.
Re: The Wire I frankly disagree. I thought season 4 was pretty slow until the last episode. The way I would rate it thus far: 1 4 2 3 The last episode of four easily the best of the entire series up until this point. Spoiler But as a whole season 1>season 4 in my opinion. The entire series is so well done script wise though. However Stringer Bell/Avon/De'Angelo and that entire crew much better than Marlo/Snoop/Chris and Joe. Can be argued but thought one's story line was tremendous throughout. My opinion is in the minority and can is certainly debatable.
Re: The Wire What put season 4 over the top for me was the aspect of using the kids from the local school in the drug trade, with Prezbo seeing things from the kids perspective.
