Re: The Wire Understandable and a very underrated aspect which moves the whole plot line done. Spoiler Wee Bay giving up his kid definitely moving but again that gets back to knowing everyone from season one a bit. Definitely agree though that it is a huge part of the season/series.
Re: The Wire Yeah I guess I would flip 3/2 thinking more about it, but agree to disagree on 1/4. Both very well done though.
Re: The Wire I think that plays into why I like Season 4 better. You could never draw any comparisons and see the totally different aspects of the two crews until then. Being able to sit there and try and relate to either side and see the differences in development of all parties was just amazing. I also prefer Avon/Stringer/etc. to Marlo/Snoop/Chris, but it wasn't until Season 4 when my feelings got as invested.
Re: The Wire Yeah I think 1 and 4 stand alone up to this point. Feelings wise, 4 definitely trumps anything in the series. The last episode is certainly the best up to this point. For me I would disagree with others in terms of having it start slow. Maybe because the original was so different from the others but it was the quickest for me. I thought four was relatively slow throughout until the last two episodes. I think 2 was a bit of a lull initially but like said was expecting more Stringer/Avon stuff.
Re: The Wire Yeah I wasn't expecting the complete 180 of season one, didn't read the thread initially so didn't read people's comments but after looking at it again very well done like everything else in the series.
Re: The Wire Spoiler mine is when d'angelo is murdered. d just wanted to be his own man and get out of the game. for him to die like that really brought me to tears, was my favorite character after season 1
Re: The Wire Spoiler This. Wallace's death didn't really hit me that hard at all. D's and Bodie's were much worse in my eyes. Hated seeing both of them go.
Re: The Wire the fuck guys Spoiler Omars death got me the worst Although I was glad some little kid did it instead of one of Marlos thugs getting the satisfaction
Re: The Wire Spoiler For me, it was Bodie's death that caused the most emotion. I loved his character and loved seeing the transformation throughout his time on the show. Deangelo was a close second though. Easily my favorite two characters.
Re: The Wire If yall love The Wire so much consider watching it with the commentary. I have the box set but I only watch the commentary with David Simon. It brings it to another level. The amount of crazy shit you dont notice is unreal. Would strongly recommend if youre a true wire fan
Re: The Wire Ive never understood the infatuation with Bodie. Good character, no doubt, but Spoiler I could never forgive him for killing wallace, even though he had to . My favorite characters were mcnulty, bunk, D and stringer Really i loved to hate stringer, really interesting character because he was so fucking smart and pretty ruthless
Re: The Wire Dont know if already posted but http://www.cbc.ca/arts/tv/story/2010/11/28/johnshopkins-thewire.html Ive heard of a bunch of university classes on the show. You understand why when you watch the commentary...this thread really makes me want to watch it all over again but hooked on Mad Men
Re: The Wire I think it was his growth (yes I know that's weird for a guy that was always a drug dealer but the show kind of displayed that he really didn't have a lot of other paths to go down). Dude went from a hot headed know it all to a guy that was just trying to survive in the only world he knew. He knew the cards were stacked against him. As for Spoiler the Wallace stuff, I never blamed him for it. As you said he didn't have a choice. His only other option was for him, Wallace and Poot to all just leave Baltimore because if he didn't do it Wallace was still going to get got if he stayed in the city and then Bodie and Poot would be next. None of them had ever been outside the city so its not like there was anywhere for them to go
Re: The Wire Yeah thats a good point about growing, he was also pretty damn funny at times. Spoiler With the wallace thing I think it just hit me so hard because I really did not know what to expect from the Wire still at that point, and most TV shows would not have that happen. It really left me kind of shocked.
Re: The Wire Yea that too. It was definitely a 'what? woa!' type of moment. I guess since its been so long since I first saw it I forget how heavy it was at first
Re: The Wire i think Spoiler Bodes death would have hit me the worst had I not been expecting it since Stinky spoiled it for me :curses:
Re: The Wire what work did he do? Spoiler set up the meet with Cutty, told DeLonda (sp?) to let Naymond go and shoot the shit with Chris in the final credits. awesome character (funny, evil, street wise, etc.) though, the Spoiler hot sauce scene with D, Stink, and Savino is one of my favorites of the entire series.
Re: The Wire I dont think its more of a stretch than Spoiler a police captain having a zone where drug trade and use is legal without the gov/police force knowing about it. I do agree though it is the weakest of the seasons
Re: The Wire Yeah that was pretty out there, although maybe this is just because seeing McNulty/Lester on this and seeing the inevitable outcome is hard to watch.
Re: The Wire figured I would ask in one of the TV threads...is there anywhere you can check out discussions on old seasons of TV shows? I am a big fan of reading theories and seeing what other people think/if I missed something as I watch a show, but I can't find anywhere to do this for older shows. I just started mad men and am looking for something about that, but I am thinking about moving onto the wire soon. any help on this?
Re: The Wire Have you been to baltimore? Gang members ride dirt bikes up and down the streets in some areas all day and night, clearly illegal, but the police are instructed not to interfere because the baltimore city police simply does not have the man power to deal with it and they are afraid that they could start a war pretty much.
Re: The Wire is that not what we are doing in this very thread? if you have a show you want to discuss, start a thread on it. if the show is good enough / if enough people have watched it, the thread will take off.
Re: The Wire Finished it and the finale put it all together and wrapped everything up perfectly. Glad McNulty went out the way he did. Spoiler The show is very unique and not your normal every season builds off the other or picks up exactly where the season left off. Knowing everything, two is underrated like others have said. It is a shock how the show kills off pretty much every main character or has them locked up outside of the police, but that is the nature of the game which the show is about. But certainly genius and wish I would have started it before this.
Re: The Wire yea no doubt. In real life folks don't last to long in the game Spoiler Guys like Avon and Marlo don't stay on top too long because there's too much heat. Guys like Stringer last because they're really business men and only care about the bottom line. You'd be suprised how many big time dealers aren't 'thugs' at all at least in the sense of how they talk/dress/act, etc. You see a lot of guys like Bodie and Poot though. They either get capped or locked up or they decide at some point to get out of the game and live straight before it happens
