Re: The Wire avon but, if i had to choose i'm a marlo fan bodie is the best character though dantonio would like to clean up the inner cities
Re: The Wire Bodie was the shit. Spoiler Everyone got sad when Omar got kilt by that niglet, but I was a lot more upset when they killed Bodie
Re: The Wire I always thought the episode in season 2 where Spoiler D gets killed was one of the best episodes of the series, hard to watch though. Spoiler The part where he talks about gatsby was a great way to close out that character.
Re: The Wire This show had so many memorable moments and storylines. It was simply impeccable. The writing, the acting, everything was top notch.
Re: The Wire agreed MY NAME IS MY NAME! he was so :dre: dantonio eats his vitamins and says his prayers before bed
Re: The Wire :dre: was on about 1000 when Spoiler he left that wine and cheese dinner to go to the corner in his suit, got stabbed, checked his own blood and smiled. Such a fucking gangsta
Re: The Wire That is one of my favorite scenes from the whole show. I liked him, but after that point, I loved him. What a scene.
Re: The Wire Some of the Spoiler killings were tough to take. Spoiler Wallace started it off in season 1 and got to me.
Re: The Wire wish I could spit like Bodie does. Omar and Brother Mouzone should have a spin-off that just shows the bad ass ways they get the drop on people and kill them wish Herc would've been killed at some point. I've only seen that guy in The Wire and Entourage. Is there ever a show where he's not a complete faggot?
Re: The Wire ever notice that Spoiler other than Wallace and D, all the killings by the Barksdale crew happened off camera while they showed a lot of the dirt Marlo's people did? Even when they were at war the only time I remember seeing Avon's people actually hit someone was when Slim shot the youngn on the corner.
Re: The Wire What makes this show so great is how it shows the politics involved in all the facets (police, corners, school teachers, the news, and politics themselves) are pretty much all the same in that appearances take precedent over reality Spoiler (stats for the police, owning the corners as opposed to owning the supply, scores for the teachers as opposed to teaching, bs stories in the news for Pulitzers rather than the facts, and the appearance of a good working city as opposed to fixing shit) The other great aspect is the cyclical nature of the characters. Spoiler Dukie turns into Bubbles, Michael turns into Omar, Marlo turns into Avon but could have chosen the Stringer route, the young black guy cop becomes Daniels, the younger black cop becomes Freamon, that slut attorney becomes the that older fat judge. The development and progressive storyline highlighting these two elements are what makes this show upper echelon quality.
Re: The Wire I'd disagree on Sydnor. Spoiler he takes on more of the role that McNulty had, going to the judge and all at the end.
Re: The Wire At first I thought that too but the key difference is that McNulty was self destructive and fueled by the need to be right while Sydnor always seemed more concerned with doing good work than stroking his own ego, making him more like Lestor, although Lestor had a bit of an ego himself
Re: The Wire I saw Kima as the one who could have gone the McNulty route but did not (she cheated on her girl, went boozing etc.) but at the end did not decide to get shady and self-destructive like McNulty. Sydnor got shady like McNulty but so did Freamon so that is how I see Sydnor turning into Freamon.
Re: The Wire guess like most of the characters, Sydnor ended up more as a combo of the two. I do agree that Sydnor was more about the work ("tell me I'm not going to jail for Marlo's fucking lunch order") but I just don't see Lestor going to the judge or to the papers ( Spoiler although he would go federal if it would make the case . true. Kima pretty much was little McNulty at one point. Spoiler it was nice to see that final scene where her and Bunk are taking a call at the spot where Gant got it. . I can see the Freamon comparison more and more now.
Re: The Wire One of the funniest parts of the show to me was Landsman in the men's bathroom in Season 5 and snickering at the graffiti "Rawls is a cock sucker."
Re: The Wire Spoiler That bit about Rawls being gay was amazing writing, in that they just left it out there and never made it part of the story. Every other show would at some point incorporated Rawls's trolling for dudes into the narrative.
Re: The Wire to be fair Spoiler the barksdale crew did kill orlando and injure kima on camera as well dantonio > rr
Re: The Wire forgot about that one. Still with as much work as Wee Bay supposedly put in you rarely saw it unlike Chris and Snoop
Re: The Wire yeah, i hadn't realize that there was such a sharp contrast between what they showed the 2 crews doing until you pointed it out dantonio is smug just because he is bored
Re: The Wire I could be giving the show far too much credit, but I almost felt like this contrast was purposeful. The Barksdale crew earned their street dap through respect and honoring the code of the game by only murking people when it was absolutely necessary, which everyone in the game respected. Whereas, Marlo's crew earned their cred through fear by means of slaying people at the drop of the hat, like little Kevin for instance. In order for the audience to understand the distinction between the two crews styles, we saw a bunch of Marlo's work but only heard about it when the Barksdale crew did it (with the exception of Kima's deal). Therefore, the contrasting styles of the crew meant the rest of the players/the community thought of them differently even though the police handled them the same while it could be argued that a Marlo-esque crew is worse for society.
Re: The Wire True. Spoiler And pretty much every one of Avon and Stringers hits were reasonable from their perspective and the street perspective the 2 witnesses - had heat on them, wanted to get rid of everyone that could flip on them Orlando - they saw through the trap, made sense to hit him since he was clearly a snitch Brandon - obvious Wallace - snitched and if he stuck to his story Wee-Bay, Bird, Stringer and Stinkum all get got D'Angelo - didn't agree but he did turn his back on them and at any point could've dropped dimes Marlo simply hit anyone that irritated him. Killed June Bugs baby moms The security guard the delivery lady the guy in Butchies bar Butchie Lil Kevin Old Face Andre - really messed up since they set it up in the first place Anybody anywhere near Marlo's operation was at risk outside of Chris, Snoop and Monk
Re: The Wire I think Bodie's would have been the toughest for me..but some fag made a thread about him dying on here last year and it spoiled it
Re: The Wire i agree with what you guys are saying. out of all the killings that toughest to watch in a top 5 format were Spoiler 1. wallace - because he was raising his 5 brothers and sisters and he his heart pumped kool-aid 2. bodie - because he was my favorite character but, he went out like a champ "this is my corner and i ain't goin no where!" 3. micheal's step dad - getting the shit kicked out of him until he died was tough to stomach 4. d'angelo. i almost didn't want to believe he was really dead 5. prop joe - just because cheese turned on him disclaimer - i wasn't sad when omar got killed. it sucked but, he knew it would come one day and he was starting to lose control of the situation. best kills 1. slim taking out cheese 2. micheal killing snoop 3. omar taking out stringer dantonio > rr
Re: The Wire Spoiler those weren't Wallace's siblings. and #3 was hard just because I loved Stringer's character. Wallace was easily the hardest because his 2 best friends had to be the ones to do it and they were shook too. Omar was the wackest even though I understand why they did it that way but for him to get capped in the back of the dome like that was weak
Re: The Wire Ok, I feel like an idiot. For the life of me, I can't figure out who the hell Snydor is. Could someone post a picture of him? I'm having a brainfart.
Re: The Wire Spoiler Also, Stringer put the hit on D not Avon. Stringer also ordered to hit up Omar on a Sunday when he and his crown wearing grandma were on his way to church. So Stringer, being the business man and not the hustler, was not honoring the code really for either of those. Avon, who garnered the respect from his crew and the players, honored the game throughout. I agree with EdN that Omar was getting to reckless/too emotional and it was a matter of when not if he was going to get got. When it went down it was shocking and still sucked though as that cocksucker was a top 5 character of mine fo sho.
Re: The Wire Spoiler never liked bodie, never forgave him for killing wallace was jealous of the way he spit though, would be lying if i said i never tried to emulate it marlo grew on me, i liked especially the first co-op meeting after prop joe got hit, he was like, "I know what you thinkin, so I'm gonna put it out there, I'M responsible." in a room full of gangstas :dre: was just on fucking 10 throughout the entire show
Re: The Wire In the beginning I disliked Prop Joe but over time he grew into one of my favorite characters.
Re: The Wire Agreed, he definitely grew on me. Couldn't stand Cheese. Spoiler So happy when Slim shot his ass. "That's for Joe" :dre:
Re: The Wire Frank Sobotka getting is an underrated kill. Guy was into some shit, but he was doing it for the right reasons. Sucked that The Greeks killed him. Also, I damn near shit myself when I saw Bubbles hanging in the interrogation room.
Re: The Wire We're from the South, so fuck unions and Sobotka. I would have read the article on Bubbles
Re: The Wire Currently on this episode and just got done watching this I MCNULTY THE SERIAL KILLER GETS PROFILED BY FBI
Re: The Wire yep. Spoiler from telling Avon the for-hire soldiers who weren't around anymore to "chill Bodie, chill." I think the thing with how Chris/Snoop's hits were always shown (for the most part) was to show how, Spoiler as Slim said , "the game is more fierce" with the younger generations; Spoiler tho Marlo's crew didn't have as big of a torture fest on Butchie as Wee-Bay, Savino and crew did with Brandon, the point remains, as everyone has already pointed out, no one but Chris and Monk was beyond taking out. .
Re: The Wire why? Spoiler Bodie didn't have a choice after he got the word. If he didn't do it he'd not only be out of the game but would now be a target, Poot too since everyone knew they were boys. And those cats had never even left the West side so do you expect all 3 of them to just leave town? Because unless he told Wallace and they peaced out, Wallace was getting got either way
Re: The Wire understand the justification of them going through with it, just hated them actually doing it maybe because i could never kill one of my boys, ever, especially like how wallace was begging for his life
Re: The Wire Pretty much what makes the show more than some "He look at those nigras dealin drugs an shootin at each other in the ghetto" type shows. The Wire really covered fucking everything, from a socio-political standpoint. & yeah.... "My name is my name!" "Business....always business." "Just a gangster, I suppose" "Big paws on a puppy." "Got that pandemic" "Snoop & Chris took him back...he up in a vacant now." "I robs drug dealahs." "Look at that bow-legged motherfucker. I made him walk like that." "Oh, inDEED." :dre:
