Might give it a spin and see. There is little on XDA about rooting this phone because it just released this week. I'm stuck with tethering as my only source of internet at home. I might come close to 5GB if I'm on xbox a lot.
Use ClockworkMod Tether. It's not wireless, but completely free and works great. Install this on your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEudGV0aGVyIl0. Install this on your Mac: http://download.clockworkmod.com/tether/tether-mac.zip Here is a video if you have any more questions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=R1Pc4RlieA0
Go ahead and use Desk SMS from ClockworkMod as well. It allows you to text from your browser and works great as well.
I used that when it first came out. the $5/year turned me off, but Koush is one of the best devs for android.
I copy and paste so much stuff some from the computer to text that it would be worth $20 a year for me. Desk SMS and Swiftkey X are two apps that I tell people should buy when I learn that they are Android users.
Agreed. The ladies swoon over my proper grammar and capitalization in extremely long texts. It makes them think you care a whole a lot about (texting with) them.
I have that as well and it works well. I had to pay for the wireless so my wife can use her ipad because I'm a cheap ass and didn't get her the LTE version.
I was not pleased at all with Mighty Text's first go around, but they did just come out with a major update including the ability to send an MMS from your computer. Let me know how the new update works for you. Before upgrading to an ICS phone, I actually though Browser Texting was the best. But now that I am on Android 4.0.X, DeskSMS has been the quickest/most reliable.
I got onto the beta waiting list, and tweeted something for them to bump myself up, so i should have my hands on beta before the end of the day.
I got my beta invite this morning via email and it doesn't look like it is all that personalized; I think you just need the one-time passcode. Check the spoiler below for my email and see if you can do the same process to go ahead start using the beta now. Spoiler Hi - it's been some time since we have been in touch. We're sorry if we weren't able to get back to you on your latest email -- we were not staffed well to respond to all emails but are much better able to serve our customers support inquiries now :) We weren't sure if you are still using MightyText -- but we wanted to invite you to use our latest product - our web app release, which is much more powerful and stable than before, and lets you also: - Send/receive SMS Text Messages from multiple computers (like you would in Gmail) - Send/receive MMS (picture messages) from your computer - Search your text messages - Import old SMS from your phone into MightyText - Send Long SMS (more than 160 characters) from the computer - Use on a tablet or on other browsers in addition to just Chrome (Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc). Finally - the product is much more stable and the user interface is much cleaner and polished. Your early invite is below. Let us know if any questions (just reply to this email!) thanks, The MightyText team --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the MightyText Web beta! Thanks for being one of our beta users for the new product. We've made some improvements and hope that you will have a better overall experience. On Android Phone: - Make sure you have the latest version of the Android App (currently v2.05). This is very important, to be fully compatible with the new web release. - Configure the MightyText Android application as you have done previously (select the same Google Account). If you already have it working on the latest version right now, then you don't need to do anything. On Computer: on Google Chrome: Make sure you still have the MightyText Chrome Extension installed and enabled. (Currently at v7.0). Once you switch to MightyText Web, the Chrome Extension will act primarily as a "notifier" -- it will show the incoming notifications. Done! Launch new Web App: - Go to the new MightyText Web App at https://mightytext.net/app -- you should be prompted for a one-time passcode. Enter the passcode mighty-april Please note: You will have to sync your Google Contacts again. This should be a one-time thing, and should take < 20 seconds. LAST STEP - very important: ** restart your browser (Chrome) ** That's it. We recommend that you bookmark the new web app URL: https://mightytext.net/app. As always, please send us your feedback and bug reports, and feel free to be brutally honest :) Questions? Please reply to this email, or click the new "feedback & support" button in the new Web App. We will post product updates and new feature release info on our Facebook page: http://facebook.com/mightytext - so "Like us" on that page to stay in touch. thanks, The MightyText team
sprint GNEX is on 4.0.4. VZWs owners must be mad also, I just got an extended battery (2600). I wonder how much of an increase i can get.
VZW has been a little quiet recently. I wouldn't buy now, as most phones have been out for a bit. future options Moto Razr HD (or Razr Maxx HD) whatever they call it (aka droid fighter???) Samsung Galaxy SIII (details released in about 10 days)
With the rumblings of Chrome coming out of beta soon, I wonder if the 4.0.4 update may be waiting on this. Maybe a browser change with the update?
Glad to find this thread. Got a rooted G2X running CM7 and looking at CM9 for some ICS love. Didn't see it mentioned here, but Google is selling an unlocked GNex direct from them for $399. https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa
Doubt it. Chrome for Android doesn't support flash and likely never will. The stock browser does (obviously) and that has been a selling point against the iPhone.
This is pretty cool: This was the original 'Google Phone' presented in 2006 http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/25/2974676/this-was-the-original-google-phone-presented-in-2006
More cool stuff (all this is coming out of the Google vs. Oracle trail): Google wanted to subsidize a $9.99 unlimited data plan for Android phones http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/25/2...sidize-a-9-99-unlimited-data-plan-for-android
Look at early Android, very Blackberry-ish: Android in early 2007 looked very different than it does today http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/25/2...2007-looked-very-different-than-it-does-today
Why the fuck did ATT have to Nerf the HTC One X and switch the quad core to a dual core? That being said I'll probably still be picking one up.
Franco released an update to his stable kernel, milestone 3, for those using the kernel but not the app.
pretty common knowledge that LTE doesn't work with tegra 3 (yet). even the GSIII will have a S4 in the US for the LTE radio. china still uses WIMAX AFAIK.
Yeah, I just flashed this afternoon and while my phone was idling the battery percentage crept on up 5% in about 45 minutes.
Yeah, Just played w/ the HTC One X. Awesome camera, big screen, feels nice in the hand :aero: , pretty snappy response and supports google wallet. Will be kopping on the 6th.
What a shitty article. He is basically saying that they are better in theory but he doesn't believe it... People went through the exact same shit when dual core phones came out why do we have to go through this again?
anyone on an old device with CM9? a ported build just popped up for the evo4g, and thinking about giving it a go, even though all other ICS builds have been horrible.
Run CM9 on my atrix and AOKP (parts of CM9) on my prime. I've run cyanogenmod on my last two phones (milestone and G1) and always loved it.
rdoanecu just realized I was douching up the Verizon thread with my questions, thought they were in here. Got the radios all set, thanks for your help. I'll look around for a link to one of the 4.0.4 roms later in the week. Havent flashed a new rom since the first week I got the phone so I'll want to read up and not screw shit up. Thanks again.
we haven't even really scratched the surface. good thing we haven't brought up screen technologies (tons of acronyms)
rdoanecu Should have done it when I had more time, but looks like I softbricked my phone. Flashed the rom and the gapp after a full wipe and also my update.zip file from my Titanium backup for my apps. Hit reboot and it sticks on the black google screen. Gave it some time, pulled the battery and nothing. fuck
unrelated: here is a test shot from the EVO LTE, which has the exact same internals as the ONE X AFAIK. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.ne...73348084_101063233083_12832801_10530765_o.jpg
My CM9 experience was awful. Granted, it was still a really early beta, but every 3 seconds or so I recieved a pop up about android.phone force closing.
In benchmarks, the T3 tended to beat out the S4, but on levels that you won't notice in day-to-day use. http://androidandme.com/2012/05/sma...erformance-gpu-battery-life-and-web-browsing/
