rdoanecu and Cocknballs just gave it the thorough looking over and there is some exception/hiccup Moto added to my device. I just have to wait

its just weird as this is a developer device and the only one for all of honeycomb. hopefully moto comes through with Ice Cream Sandwhich in the first quarter.

kinda excited for the google tablet coming later, cant imagine it competing unless its ~200 or less

although if its full featured, it could add a few dollars.

HTC needs to step up their 4.0 game.

none of the phones released were impressive. razr maxx gets best phone i guess, but didn't even reveal battery size.

Do you have device specific passwords activated on your gmail account? Check settings, you may need a unique password.

any good forums for the galaxy nexus? All I'm on is androidcentral and all they do is bitch about it on there. I'm not seeing any of the problems they are talking about with mine. My GN works perfectly so far

I am overclocked (1350mhz) but I am also using user defined voltages (they are relatively low but still stable). I am on the extended battery, sorry should of said that.

motorola released pure, non skinned 4.0.3 for the US wifi xoom to a small number of testers. since it was an official, signed update, it made it pretty easy for me to update when one of the members of the test group (supposedly only a few thousand) leaked the OTA.

you have to be stock unrooted, which thankfully I was. I spent the last couple days playing around trying to root. it stumped both me, rdoanecu and cocknballs (but only because moto had done their darnedest to stop root)

the bad news is that moto knows that it was leaked and said internally they are going to redo how they release test OTAs. It would be better for both parties if they made the test OTA available to those of us that really want, which isn't that many people to begin with.

Rooting is rooting, just look for the easiest and safest method that works with your current version of android

I used revolutionary when I rooted in septemberish. it was my first root, and it seemed to work fine.

if you get stuck post your problem here, or try youtube for some visual walkthroughs

Thanks for the offer, I seem to be finished. S-OFF and I have Superuser. I guess my next question is.. what now? I want to get rid of all the bloatware that came preinstalled. Peep, Nascar, Amazon MP3 etc. How do I do that? Also, what steps to take next? ROMs, Kernals etc? I don't need total customization and all that. I just want to be able to tether for free and have better battery life. Any suggestions for a n00b?

Just got a Motorola Droid RAZR (Verizon Network). Really liking the Android OS so far.

What are some good things to snag from the market?

Just go to your settings and apps and delete what you don't want. As or tether, either search for it on the market or search the forums for an apk of a tether that works or one of the wizards on here will post the link for lazy asses like me. As for better battery, you have to get a minimalist kernel for your phone. Rooting itself won't help battery life, but it allows you do flash kernels that do. Now that you're rooted, download SetCPU from the market and set up some profiles that underclock your processor and save battery. You can slow the processor speed way down during the night when you aren't using your phone or when the screen is off or when the battery is below a certain % or whatever. That's an easier, faster way of helping battery rather than flashing a kernel if you aren't very comfortable doing that.

Sweet. I'm going to snag SetCPU right now. What tether program do you recommend grabbing. I guess I don't have to pay for apps? Also, when I go to "Manage Applications" it won't let me uninstall the apps like Blockbuster etc.

I'd put recovery on your phone and go look at the ROMs out there and try out one I liked (CM7 or CM9 if its stable)

Is recovery an app? Also, when using Titanium Backup and backing up the files.. where is it backing them up to? The SD Card?

    Ok... Let me start over...

I'm new to the Android game but very interested in essentially everything y'all are mentioning. When I was purchasing this phone, I overheard one of the Verizon employees explaining to a coworker how he had slowed the processor speed down or something on a Galaxy (I think) or something. I'm pretty decent with computers so surely I can figure this stuff out with your help.

So you are saying that you want to get into the more advanced stuff for android? Rooting/custom roms?

SetCPU is an app you need to be rooted to use. It slows down your processor when you want it to.

Rooting is gaining superuser access to your phone allowing you to download and use apps that otherwise aren't available to stock phones. You've got to root before you can do any of the other stuff that's being talked about in this thread.

So when your phone boots up it boots up 2 systems, one is the phone's internal bios (first) and the other is android which is what you use. recovery is something that boots up in between these two and what it allows for is if you fuck up android while you're changing roms or whatever, you can boot into recovery and fix it. recovery is what you use to change the rom out. it also allows you to nandroid which is nice because nandroid makes a carbon copy of your phone at that time (text messages, emails, apps etc) and you can always flash a nandroid if you decide, fuck this shit i'm going back to what I had and boom, just like you never did a thing.

    two recovery solutions for evo

havent read too much on it but this one is ClockWorkMod (which is what I use) but it looks like it installs it permanently...
