I think I got to that part. I've been on this site since 2009, and I still don't know how to spoiler stuff.
Spoiler I was mostly referring to the time jump. That really threw me for a loop. But, pay attention to those shadow beings/ references. They're said in passing but come in to play in the next book.
I barely finished the first Mars book. It was a slog for me. Red Rising great. It’s not a whole lot like expanse. Less scientific, but it’s a space opera as well. 5 books so far. Originally a trilogy. The author started a second trilogy. It’s so good.
New novella coming out. Spoiler Hey Expanse fans. There is a new novella on the horizon set in the universe of James S. A. Corey’s NYT-bestselling Expanse series. AUBERON explores a harsh and alien world and the age-old dangers that humanity has carried with it to the stars. Check out the cover and copy below. Auberon is one of the first and most important colony worlds in humanity’s reach, and the new conquering faction has come to claim it. Governor Rittenaur has come to bring civilization and order to the far outpost and guarantee the wealth and power of the Empire. But Auberon already has its own history, a complex culture, and a criminal kingpin named Erich with very different plans. In a world of deceit, violence, and corruption, the greatest danger Rittenaur faces is love. If you’re a fan of the novels but are new to the short fiction, check out jamessacorey.com for a full list of Expanse side stories. Auberon takes place between PERSEPOLIS RISING (US | UK) and TIAMAT’S WRATH (US | UK) so there is no danger of spoilers if you aren’t caught up to the most recent hardcover. Yesssss. They had done a novella in between most of the novels, but didn’t on the last one. I’m glad they’re coming back
Just finished. Liked it. Not what I was expecting, but pretty good. Had cool tie-ins to previous stuff
Just finished Leviathan Wakes and I've started Caliban's War. I was afraid that after watching the show that the books would seem tedious, knowing the general story arc. Far from it.
I'm about 150 pages into Babylon's Ashes now. Quarantine has really let me plow through these books. I couldn't put Nemesis Games down. Holy shit from like around page 100-onward.
Just caught up. Fantastic series. Really pumped for season 5 and the last book later this year. Actor that plays Alex has been accused of me too shit. Not sure how that will all play out with the new season.
I fell in love with the show bc of Det. Miller. Never really liked the actor who played Holden for whatever reason. That always kind of kept me arms length away from the show, and it’s difficult to follow a show with so many different settings and characters like that. I’ve kind of lost touch with the show. Been meaning to get into the books, but just haven’t because they just seem so, um expansive? Finally sampled Leviathon Wakes. It was just two chapters and I’m already hooked. Bought it and im very excite. It’s so rare to find sci-fi/fantasy writers who can build creative worlds with deep history, but also be able to write relatable characters who don’t sound like chuds or simps with Chad powers. Writer reminds me very much of George RR Martin, in his not tedious writing style or prose or whatever it’s called and his realistic and diverse set of character. I’m a slow reader so I’m prob going to be hooked on this shit for a while. I’ve always been more into Sci-if than swords and dragons as far as fantasy goes. If he starts adding characters or chapters like Martin could where he critically examines human nature and history with witty af monologues, streams of consciousness and dialogue, then this will prob one of my favorite series of all time.
Youre lucky because the last book comes out in november. You wont have to wait. One of the authors worked closely w GRRM. Cant remember which one but theyve talked about his influence.
If I could pick any talent in the world it would be to have the creative capacity that George RR Martin and others have. I know it also takes a tremendous amount of work to develop and create too, but still.
I mentioned this in the books youve read thread, but if anyone is looking to fill the soon to be hole left by the Expanse - The Divide series is promising. Only two books out so far but it's really good. It's basically The Night's Watch in space. Group of outcasts/criminals are defending the edge of the universe against some ancient threat, while a bunch of inner core politics are taking place. It sounds like a blatant ASOIAF rip off, but it's not. It's clearly inspired by it, but it's good. So far at least.
oh shit this is fantastic news. you happen to have a mobi or epub? nbd if not i should probably contribute $ to them anyway
Still in the middle of my reread. Almost done with Cibola Burn so it’ll be a minute before I get to it.
Anyone read the final novella that came out last week? I can see that The Blackfish is currently reading it on GR. It was good, but not what I was hoping for Spoiler It's great for Naomi that her son grew up to be compassionate and more like her. Also willing to sacrifice and all that stuff. Buuuuut I was really hoping for more of a post script about Amos on Earth.
Watched the show last month cranked out all six seasons in like 3 weeks. I just picked up the first 3 books this past Tuesday and I’m already about 340 pages into book one. Excited and hope it grabs me the way the show did
So yeah people always say this but man the books are so much better, and I also really enjoyed the show. The ending is way more involved in the books too. Really was truncated in the show.
Finished book 1 just now. Definitely explains things better than the show did. Am I to assume Avasarala and the whole UN plot line was made up for the show?
The show pushed up some story lines earlier than they were in the books. Also, as I’m sure you’ll discover - they combined some characters into 1. Also make sure you read the novellas. They are awesome on their own, and also really add to the overall saga.
Holden and Naomi were the two from the show furthest from how I pictured them in the book. Holden wasn’t even remotely close. Amos was ok. Bobbie and Alex were fine and Avasarala was spot on
I stopped reading like 2 months ago because the beginning of books 3 feels like a huge slog and I’m bored and just want read about the crew of the Roci
Also just finished episode 1 of The Expanse game that came out. You play as Drummer a few years before book 1. Mostly exploration and dialogue/story choices but I thought it was pretty decent
Started book 7 this morning with my coffee. Interesting move on the time jump The end of book 6 felt like a true ending so I see why the show stopped there even if they didn’t do a great job of portraying it
