I'd argue that Richie saved Carmy's ass. Not Syds fault that the head chef locked himself in the cooler. She did freeze up for a minute, but idk if you can really blame her considering one sous left to go smoke meth and the head chef was locked in a room. When neither of those catastrophic events were happening, she was doing great.
she was starting to panic before that remember her yelling at Tina and getting mad at Carm for going to see Clair real quick and they had to bring Marcus over to help her
Did they say whether or not it was her first time every running the kitchen like that? Not saying she handled everything gracefully and seamlessly pivoted when crazy shit started happening. But she got it done. Also nothing that happened that night showed me that she wouldn't be capable of running the day-to-day and letting Carmen take a step back. If anything it shows them that prior to his performance, they weren't utilizing Richie as a huge asset that he's turned out to be. Which would make it even easier for them to just plug him in that spot permanently and let Syd do more chef'n
She had a catering company that failed right? Highly unlikely she ever ran expo at a major restaurant before.
Ever since I watched Forks weeks ago, Love Story wil randomly pop in my head. I catch myself humming it at very awkward times.
Random funny scene: Ep5 when unc comes in and sees the place in a mess and starts going on a rant about his investment. Squeezes out a super fast "shut the fuck up" to Richie multiple times mid-sentence when he sees him take a breath to spit some bullshit out. Love it.
I wonder if they give the Marcus/syd romance another go in S3, how they frame his arc going forward with what’s (potentially) happening with his mom is v interesting
Did a 7-10 rewatch again. 8-9 are sneaky good. “I wear suits now” will be used often by me moving forward. Chocolate banana at friends and family And yes, Syd was shitting the bed all night once Marcus asked her out.
I wore a suit for a presentation at work the other day that featured lessons from episode 7. Of course people asked why I was wearing a suit, and I just said I wear suits now.
It was probably my third favorite of the season. Loved the way Ramy Yousef shot the episode. Definitely most visually impressive episode.
I liked Marcus's and Tina's arcs as much or more than Richie's. Tina's was really special because they delivered a ton of emotion in just a few scenes: - asked to be sous by Syd - invited out by the other trainees - crowd loving her karaoke song - Carmy not asking for the knife back The actress playing Tina did a fantastic job this season expressing the emotional impact of these scenes. Science Baby!
Her expressions are great. Really enjoyed her performance. That karaoke scene was great too. Her joy of being asked to be sous was my favorite.
No doubt episode 4 is an all timer as well. Being 95% sure Will Poulter was speaking about Carmen to Marcus, it was great to get a glimpse into what made him such an incredible chef. I’d love a prologue/prequel of Carmy coming through the ranks. Perhaps even just an ep dedicated to it next season.
Mendocino Farms. Looks like it’s off the menu now. They have a different specialty sandwich each month. I’m sure there’s more authentic places here though. Just happened to be ordering from there and saw it and grabbed one. Found this place searching though
Maybe that’s the sauce on the side? I have no idea I’ve never been there but that’s the place that came up for them in Houston when googling. I’m sure there are several Italian places that have them
I’m sure searching for “Italian beef sandwich houston” will probably come up with the place with “Italian beef” in the name.
this show is amazing. I have 3 eps left so I'm not reading anything, but the last two episodes were absolutely incredible (Seven Fishes & Richie ep). did this show miss the Emmy window? I went and looked after I finished the ep assuming JLC would have been nominated for her performance and didn't see anything related to the show on there.
Oh, I did not know that. I was a bit upset when I saw the lack of nominations, I expected quite a bit more.
Same. I had asked in Ted Lasso thread when mentioned and was told these noms were for S2 of The Bear so went with it
I think that was me, and now I'm happy to learn I was wrong and they can get the million nominations they deserve next year.
White Lotus is going to be hard to beat. Not sure if they are in the same category but it seems like the the favorite.
I forgot Jeremy Allen White won a Golden Globe not an Emmy last year, which is why I was confused on timing.
finished Forks great episode that is a good example of why fine dining can be so great, it's basically an interactive theater art show that you can eat
I'm 99% sure that restaurant was based off and at least partially filmed in Alinea in Chicago. I've not eaten there but from what I understand they basically changed the paradigm in fine dining and I'd love to go sometime.
Its definitely based on Alinea but it wasn't filmed there. I can't remember the name I saw on Reddit.
It's based on both, IMO. Ever is the concept of the surprise, and Alinea is the only 3 star restaurant in Chicago.
many are, but there's also a real push by many to change kitchen culture. I just happen to have a friend who worked for Grant at Alinea, so I have been given first hand confirmation on this one.
I was pretty close to making the same post a few weeks back. Would’ve rather seen Belichick or Ronald Reagan from hell probably
Probably already been posted but made slaw newspaper (sorry folks we get news slow around here) Spoiler
Rewatching the episode and noticed the chef that comes out and speaks when they are having the little prep meeting actually has Ever on his shirt. I had never noticed that before.
