My wife has a worse cold than me for once and I am not enjoying it. I’d rather get the usual distain I get for acting pathetic than the cloud of angry asshole vibes she’s walking around with this evening.
This is straight out of the wife playbook. When we are sick they tell us how we are pathetic being knocked out by whatever we have. When they are sick, instead of getting in bed to recover, they just treat everyone around them like shit while constantly reminding us that we'd be lying in bed if the roles were reveresed. No shit. Yes, when I'm sick, I get in bed and drink my soup until I'm better. That's way more preferrable to subjecting the entire family to whatever cold I have and my bad attitude because I don't feel well. Oh and I get better a lot sooner lying in bed because I am actually taking care of myself.
I've got her in a bubble bath and brought her chocolate covered cookies in a little Tupperware so they float in the tub and she's much happier now
She loves to tout her unlimited PTO yet she never fucking uses it. Shes not been 100% for weeks and ended up going to the ER in the middle of the night last night (everythings fine overall). Obviously she's exhausted and still not 100% so I ask "you're taking the day off right?" " I'm going to let them know I'm not 100% and might be a little out of contact". I could lose my fucking mind. TAKE THE FUCKING DAY OFF. She is what unlimited PTO companies love, an employee too afraid to ever use it.
We went to the Urgent Care a while back because my wife had the flu. Same thing for time off but she is straight commission so it may be a bit different. Regardless the Doc was a bit ambiguous on the time when she could go back. I had to ask that they clarify exactly when she should go back or how long she should stay home because otherwise she'd be in there infecting everyone.
Unlimited PTO is bullshit. People use less because they never have a counter telling them how many days off they have remaining.
By December I'm taking a day off every week because I keep getting messages about how many days I'm about to lose. I never used to take any for the first three quarters of the year.
My old job switched to this during COVID. I started keeping track of my days off just to make sure I was using close to the same as before, because previously 80% of my PTO was related to having to use it before it expired. Ended up taking a new job like a year later. Would have had 130ish hours that needed to be paid out if they didn’t switch.
Unlimited pto is just a scam so there isn’t a defined benefit owed to the employee. Your corporate overlords don’t have to pay anything out if it doesn’t exist.
I work for a state government. We can roll leave over to a point. I know so many people walking around with 400 hours of leave. Wtf are you doing? Take a day off.
The culture of just accumulating leave is so prevalent among the old heads. I’m taking an afternoon off, at a minimum, once a month to go play golf.
My place went from unlimited to an 80 hour cap a decade ago. There were some lifers who had over 1000 hours banked that they just got a paycheck for.
I too work for a state government. Two guys I work with are consistently maxed out at 480 hours of time off, not counting their sick time which is a completely different bucket.
We have unlimited “sick” days but limits on like 3 other buckets you can take days off with. I was “sick” at Universal with my kid on Monday.
My company doesn’t track vacation. I get 4 weeks but literally don’t count it. It would drive me crazy to request and get approval as some friends are required. I figure 4 1 week trips. The days here and there I keep my phone on me.
The people at the top of the seniority list have 1600+ hours of sick time accrued. If they leave the company or retire they are only compensated at a rate of $10.10/hr. That is a HEAVY discount vs using the time. 1600 hours is 20 years worth of accrued time (we get 80 hrs per year)
My goal is to get 2080 hours of sick leave accrued to add an extra percentage point to my pension when I retire.

My wife said she was just going drive around until she could drop our daughter off at a birthday party. We get home after eating. Wife: Did you get me anything? Me: Was I supposed to? If she was just driving around killing time, then she could have easily grabbed herself some lunch. if she was just chillin at home then yeah the move would be to ask her if she wants anything.

I was craving this Filipino food spot about 25 minutes away and told her I was going, there is a taco place near by that she loves so she said get get her the tacos and chips and salsa. get home and she asks where the queso is?
