I deal with almost the exact same shit. Night terrors were worse when i was a kid. I just deal with it though, doesnt really affect me too much. The only time I really dont get them is when im sharing the bed with a gf, something about that is calming.
Every time I nap, I have sleep paralysis. I get the lucid dreams pretty much every other night, they are cool and I can obviously dictate how they go. Never have lucid dreams while napping.
Can you go back to sleep afterwards? I always have more whenever I start to fall back to sleep so I end up not getting a good nights rest.
I have sleep apnea. My dad had it. Apparently I've snored since I was a baby. And even when I was pretty skinny. I also have a fucking ginormous tongue (in width) that probably contributes. Haven't gone in for a sleep study, but I need to at some point.
One Two, didn't want to derail the other thread too much but you said you have to sleep with noise on. Anyone else in the same boat in that you have to have some sort of noise to go to sleep to that has the same sleep issues? Eric The Viking G46?
I think i read it can be caused by bad sleep habits and irregular diet Which explains why it happens to me
I really started trying hard to lose weight and get in shape a couple if years ago. It seemed like no matter how hard I worked and how well I ate, I couldn't lose weight. I was 44 at the time, so I thought it might be Low-T or a thyroid issue. My doctor did the blood work and everything was normal, so he suggested a sleep study. Sure enough it was sleep apnea. It was covered by insurance and I use the nose pillows. I tried the mask and it was too big and I knocked it off/pulled it off too easy. I have felt so much better since and have lost 30 lbs. One thing to watch for is that health insurance typically will do a lease to own type deal with the Cpap, but often does not cover the humidifier that is attached to it, so you can be out a couple of hundred on that. It is a serious condition that can take a heavy toll on your heart if untreated.
Had one of the worst night terrors/sleep paralysis episodes in a long time this afternoon. Roommate is dating a girl with a 5 or 6 year old. I was taking a nap and had the sense that this kid came into my room and was standing next to my bed trying to wake me up and I couldn't move. At one point I was trying so hard to wake up and couldn't that I thought I was going to die.
It's not so much a "have to", as it is a prefer to. Cornelius Suttree posted a long time ago about falling asleep with Jurassic Park playing in the background, and how it allowed him to dream with the theme of dinosaurs most nights. It's similar to that for me. My brain assimilates noise into the dream. Also if I have a fan on a high setting, I'm more likely to dream about flying.
I just started experiencing sleep paralysis episodes about 6 months ago, they are definitely freaky as hell. It only happens to me when falling asleep, not when waking up. The longest I have been frozen unable to move is probably like 5 seconds in real time but damn if it doesn't seem like forever when you are going through it.
I have sleep apnea. I think it's moderate on my side and severe on my back. I'm not terribly overweight (6'1, 200 lbs) so it's hard to blame that. The Doctor said I have a very narrow windpipe, so in turn I snore like a monster. It's just gotten steadily worse over the years to the point where I couldn't really function in the morning without a lot of coffee or energy drinks. I went in for the sleep study, got my cpap and have been using it pretty steadily for the past couple weeks. Real test came this weekend when I shared a hotel room with 4 other people. In the past I would've woken up to someone hitting me with a pillow, but this time they said I was quiet as a baby so i'm sticking with the cpap. Have an airsense 10 if anyone else needs some input on that. I spent a good bit of time reading about the devices, masks, etc.
I can't sleep in a bed but fuck if I can nap on a plane. Always out before takeoff and wake up at landing. But I'll be wide awake by 3 am tonight.
Self-made insomniac checking in. I blame it on literature: my sweet spot for book reading is 3 or 4am. You really hit a groove once the delirium sets in, the pages just fly.
I just got diagnosed with sleep apnea. . I had a feeling, but i was avoiding the sleep study. i guess i'll b team CPAP soon. what kind of machines do y'all have?
i was looking at the air sense 10 or the respironics dream station. what mask do u use? do u feel better?
neat concept, but im not sure it woukd seal to your nose for shit and anyone who has worn them knows that any leakage around the nose = zero sleep
Thread has motivated me to go see the doc to start the process of getting a CPAP machine. I'm tired every single day and am waking up like four times per night and I know it's driving the fiancé crazy. Baby is coming in two months and I want to be sure I'm getting quality sleep. Coworker's husband has same insurance and apparently he just had to pay the one deductible to see the primary care doctor and everything after that was covered by insurance including the machine.
My friend uses the dream station and that same nasal pillow set up. I have the resmed airfit f10 mask. I would personally take the mask over the nose setup, but just try them on and see. I like that the mask stays over my mouth/nose so I don't have to worry about rolling around and it slipping off.
i snore like a goddamned lumberjack and stop breathing quite a bit in my sleep. going this evening for a consultation to get a sleep study set up.
Wait apnea can have effect on weight loss? I've been working out like crazy, counting calories, etc but have felt like nothing is working like it used to. I'm not obese by any means but I could lose 15lbs and be happy. Now I'm even more stoked to hopefully get this apnea thing handled.
Yes after my bloodwork came back good, it was the first thing my doctor asked me. I have been able to keep it off and I have tons more energy.
I can confirm that CPAP alone, with no working out or watching what you eat, will not make you lose weight
We are same. I'm not sure if I want to keep with the nose pillows or switch to the over the nose mask.
Just went to doctor. He said that the pulmonologist requires all new patients to do a chest x-ray before going in for a sleep study. Anyone else have to do this? Hate this shit. Now I'll worry about some secret cancer in my chest that they find in this random X-ray.
i didn't have to do, nor did he even mention, an x-ray yesterday. got my sleep study set up for november 2nd
I assume it's just because of the provider he uses. He thought it was silly and asked his nurse to call and see if we could do it without one but she came back in and said the place requires all new patients to have a chest x ray. I'll just assume it's a $$$ making thing. Just ready to get the study done and get my mask.
Well it's a pulmonologist that runs the sleep center. But the imaging place was right next door to my PCP, under the same organization of providers. Just my guess. Idk I have anxiety so it's just bothering me and now I'll worry about a phone call saying we need to talk then I'm dead despite no symptoms of any form of any illness.
I wake up every night at around 2 or 3 and have to go to a spare room. I think I'm just a light sleeper and wake up if my wife turns or something, since I can make it through the night if I'm solo. Anyone know of a way to train yourself to sleep deeper?
Meditate and/or smoke weed I'm in the same boat, and honestly the latter is the only one that helps consistently. Don't workout at night and cut down on the caffeine helps, too.
I also recommend trazodone for those of you who have a hard time shutting the brain down at night. Non habit forming and doesn't leave me feeling drugged in the AM.
I have heard this from several people; my guess is that they have more energy and are more active and that leads to weight loss. it lowers cortisol levels too, but i still bet they are just more active
I randomly slip into non-24, which is supposed to apply to people that are totally blind. It hits at any random time. I will stay up all night and not fall asleep till 6am, then wake up the next day at 6am, and will sometimes be followed by falling asleep at 6pm and sleeping all the way till 6am the next day. After this cycle I will sleep like a baby. It almost seems like it is a reset for my body clock once every few months, but it really makes it a nightmare to function for those days. It probably isn't exactly non-24, because it is extremely rare for people that are not blind, but it is the closest thing that fits the description. I tried to self medicate via chronic masturbation, but to no avail. Hookers and crack will be my next treatment method.
I get this for 2-3 nights when recovering from any illness. It's fucking gross when you're just lying there and feel beads of sweat running down your chest and back.
