in country music history class as a senior elective and we have to do a "report" on a musician. everybody chose eric church, zac brown, etc. and i signed up for pat green
hahah will do. may have to list tmb as a source its so awesome, the professor took like 3 years to learn everything and he has clips of everybody. about to get into hank williams now. got a 97 on the first exam
Badass class. Does anyone find it funny Pat Green talks about polished pop country in "My Texas"? I'm thinking, what the fuck do you think you did
yeah he still puts on a great show. saw him in nashville a couple weeks ago for the first time in years, was a lot of fun. i too find it funny he rips on nashville country, which is the exact reason i stopped listening to him after he came out with wave on wave.
Does Pat Green essentially failing at selling out and only then going back to his old ways not piss y'all off? I pretty much refuse to listen to him now, except some of his old stuff. Btw, like RK's new album a lot.
yeah i feel the same way. his old stuff is still really good. i'm really interested to see what his next album will sound like. i just can't see him ever being able to go back to what he was
Lolwat? How do you think the entire "outlaw" music scene started? Willie and Waylon couldn't cut it as pop artists and were tired of writing songs for other people, so they moved from Nashville to Austin to make the music they want to make. I haven't like a pat green song in a decade, but you can't hate a guy for wanting to make money.
You used an example of guys giving up Nashville to make music they like to compare to a guy that gave up making music he liked to go to Nashville? Interesting strategy. I get the whole can't fault him for trying to cash in, doesn't mean he's not a hypocrite.
I get what you're saying, but I would imagine Willie tried to make his own style of music in Nashville, and it wasn't commercially viable so he eventually said screw this. Pat Geeen's case was different in that his "underground" following forced record execs to take notice. I would think that he went to Nashville with the intention of maintaining his creative integrity, but the powers that be probably squashed that real quick. All they saw in him was someone stealing record sales from (insert soulless country artist here).
Thoughts on the new REK, Reckless Kelly, and Micky albums? REK's record is kinda depressing almost, although Play A Train Song is awesome, love Todd Snider. Huge fan of the Reckless Kelly record, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZoqmvFW8Lg is a great song. Raise My Glass is pretty good too, but I still listen to their Billy Bob cd so much more.
Saw CDB this past weekend, incredible show. Played a couple new songs off their upcoming album, really liked this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d5O3nCxf84&feature=watch_response_rev
Thought I was about to watch a video from the fraternity house. Then I saw the beer bottle and knew it couldn't have been there.
The new CDB album is going to be pretty good. Double Wide Dream is a pretty good one. I can't find a good video, but One Star Flag is pretty good too.
CDB also has a sequel to White Trash Story that should be on their new album. Pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng2gS7Ilm_A
The new Casey Donahew album is going to be a good one. I really like Wade's new single http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUFFi0ZluO4 Also big fan of some older Brantley Gilbert stuff right now. Solid lady getting songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhfLBPi1_3c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrZQZKkRPok
I think I missed this thread the most during my absence. I've got a couple of videos from the Wade & Randy Hold My Beer and Watch This tour that I will try and upload when I get back to my computer.
they're playing in Charlotte next weekend too, I plan on being there. Boland and American Aquarium are playing the same place this Thursday too
Adam Hood plays in atlanta this friday. really want to go but there is absolutely no one in town this weekend that is into that kind of music that would partake. I just don't know how I feel about riding solo to a concert, especially on a Friday, but I've never seen AH and am a big fan. Missed Boland last night too because of law school bullshit. Had a big string of bad luck seeing these bands lately.
I saw Micky & The Motorcars and Reckless Kelly by myself over the summer. Just pounded bourbon and gingers while there, talked to a few people and had a good time. Don't know how often I'd do it again though
yeah concerts are just one of those activities I'd just feel weird at by myself. I think i could manage on a week night and just chill at the bar and listen to some good music. But Peachtree Tavern in Atlanta is a bar filled with a bunch of college aged kids on Friday nights, and I'd feel pretty awkward not knowing anyone there. There is this one chick I'm thinking about calling that I've been working on. She's not into that kind of music, at all, but I was gonna about holler at her anyways this weekend, so might as well give it a shot.
might as well hood is the kinda music that everybody can at least listen to, even if they dont like country very much. and i hear ya about the bar, the place i went to was on a wednesday night at a mostly older/"hip" crowd, so i didnt care much what people around me thought of my lonesome night haha
yeah that's my thinking about Hood too. When he comes on my ipod when it's on random, my hippster music friends always seem to enjoy it fine. this chick is more into the psychedelic rap, electronica stuff with some hippster music mixed in. she's more the metropolitan type, so we'll see. don't know exactly what she sees in me because i'm the opposite of the type guys she's normally into, but i've definitely made some big strides the last few weeks. got cockblocked by her friends big time last weekend, wasn't happy about it.
