We are past the point of no return, best thing is to act quickly. I like Kelly and think he is a good coach but it's not working out. I made the mistake of believing Weis would turn it around but looking back it was pretty obvious . Kelly is way better but he will never maximize the talent. He fixes one thing and something else goes incredibly wrong every season.
It's fun to talk about next coach at ND but what do you guys think Kelly's next move would be (not that you care)? A few years ago everyone is worried about him leaving for the NFL. I think his ego is too big to take another college HC position. Maybe OC in the NFL even though that's probably not helping with his shit play calling. Just retire and collect ND checks like Weis makes the most sense.
the almost certain reality is that Sanford will end up at Ohio State once Kelly is fired. feels bad man
With all the openings this year, it's almost certain Harsin will take a bigger job. I'd expect Sanford to take over at Boise if that happens
lol, are you guys really saying that if you have a player who is afraid to play Navy that the answer isn't to stop recruit gaping pussies but instead stop playing triple option teams? Jesus Christ.
I have said to someone, somewhere literally every year, that we should stop playing Navy. 12-0 or 3-9 my stance on that will never change.
Totally understand that viewpoint. That said, you can't use that as justification for players deciding to only play against opponents they want to play against. It's our place as fans to complain about scheduling. It's not our player's place to determine who they do/don't line up against.
How do you have any authority as a coach after that? I couldn't imagine a JV coach getting away with doing that let alone a coach at D1 power
Bookmaker is giving odds that suggest it is more likely Les Miles is coaching ND next year than Brian Kelly. https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/dfd110...28065e96/ss_les-miles-is-the-favorite-to.html
over Brian Kelly? yes. He's a more successful coach who's been in a buzzsaw conference division. Are there others that I would prefer? yes, tons.
Les Miles may or may not be better than what we have now but he is guilty of much of the same stubbornness and isn't enough of a jump for me to be excited about. Sticking with Cam Cameron is worse than sticking with Van Gorder. With the rules today it is more inexcusable to be inept on offense than defense. Also, even in good years for LSU it is the same problem we see under Kelly - he beats the teams he's supposed to and loses to Bama. If it was a choice between Kelly and Miles I stick with Kelly.
Les Miles had more talent at his disposal in down years than ND has had in almost any year in BKs tenure. And they didn't even have to recruit those guys other than offer them. I'm not impressed at all with Les other than his pressers would be funny
I'm pretty sure you could put me as the head coach at LSU with his old staff and I'd go 10-2 every year as well
You are being extremely generous to Kelly with that comment. If we hired a coach in 2005 who had the exact same results as Miles had at LSU, there would be a statue of him on campus already.
Didn't realize we'd had enough recent success to not consider a coach who has a national championship under his belt, but thanks for enlightening me. I mean there are 4 other of them actively coaching right now - dime a dozen.
This is only the second candidate that has been mentioned in this thread that I wouldn't take over Kelly.
I like him (Rhule). Think he is a tough nosed coach who would challenge the kids. IMO he's similar to Schiano who I've been blasted for many times. Guy had Rutgers competing at a high level for 4 years straight, before him they were trash and since him they've been trash. I want a physical minded coach who wants to run downhill and play tough D. I love our WR's but our offense in general is too finesse. We have bonafide NFL stars on our OL year in an year out but we don't pound the rock. Frustrating.
Started the day off by having a French dip and a couple drinks at the backer, big win for bball now home and ready to watch any game but Nd. Today's a good day
Also, I'm going to watch and enjoy ND football today. Our team sucks but ND is just the fucking best. I got to walk my daughter around, show her buildings my family has "built", get her a pretzel and shaved ice, and watch a pretty good hoops team win. I was to lazy to do well enough in school to get into ND, but I make the same promise to her my dad made to me. She gets in, I'll pay every dime.
114 to start and then moved down to 18 right behind the nd bench for the second half. Little one enjoy her first game today?
Yeah. The noise wigged her out a bit. I don't remember the music being that loud, but once she settled in she dug it. Makes dad happy, now I know I can go more often.
Yeah I think they increased the volume of the speakers. We commented on that at the first exhibition game
