This weather is perfect. I had a nice leisurely 2.5 mile walk home followed by sitting outside drinking a beer. Great day.
I think she did a pretty good job. She did a phenomenal job pre-pandemic imo. Then was fighting pretty much every head wind from there on out.
Much of her leniency is a result of not taking cases she has little chances of winning. Mostly do to shitty police work and far too many cops who are deemed unworthy to testify. All of that gets lumped onto her as her failings. As is the case for many progressive prosecutors. She had the same issues w testifying and evidence pre pandemic and violent crime was crashing in the city. Recidivism was dropping slightly too iirc.
Personally, I only support DAs with a history of abusing their spouse and sucking at their job, so I’ll be disappointed she’s gone.
Staying in Wicker Park next week for a few days. Best breweries/restaurants/activities in the area? Or anywhere really. I wasn't sure if the OP was still relevant since it was from 5 years ago. Appreciate any input!
These are my favorite which are pretty close: Maplewood Old Irving Brewing (excellent food as well) Revolution (Brew Pub is closer but the brewery isn't too far) Ravinia is pretty good and right around the corner from Maplewood Pilot Project is an interesting concept you should look into Hop Butcher isn't exactly close but not too far away. I still would highly recommend it and then you'll have Begyle and Dovetail within walking distance too.
District Brew Yards On Tour Great Central Goose Island Taproom Forbidden Root …all near one another in West Town just south of Wicker Park
I am sure the confidential and seemingly arbitrary handouts of ownership stake in the casino will be completely above board. The Rhode Island-based gambling giant had previously disclosed on its website plans to allow "minority investors" to "own 25% of the project," which is slated to be developed on the 30-acre riverfront site now home to the Chicago Tribune's Freedom Center printing plant. Bally's framed that as a centerpiece of its community benefit commitment to the city. ... Bally's did not disclose the eligibility criteria for investors, but the company's website said investors in the 25% stake will include "philanthropists, business owners, sports stars, celebrities and everyday Chicagoans from the Black and Latino communities, as well as other ethnic and gender representation."
This is standard stuff in IL gaming and really all US states. It's not really something worth writing about, because it's more a regulatory requirement or a condition of getting a casino license in IL. With that said, if they actually come close to hitting 25% minority investment, that would definitely be an outlier. Traditionally companies get away with 5-10%. Either way, Bally's can totally hand pick who they want to be included in that minority investment pool.
"We want everyone represented, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation" [gives Lori Lightfoot 100% of the minority shares]
Yes. Not salty at all... I live in River North close to both the temporary and permanent Bally's sites, so actually double the saltiness.
Your complaint has been logged. A customer representative will reach out shortly. Have a winning day!
On a serious note, I'm not sure when that permanent facility will be built. Bally's will print money from the temporary location with very little capex invested. Calling it now that they will continue to slow down the project. I feel like over/under is 2028 for doors opening to the public.
need recs for restaurants or bars with nice patios, or dog-friendly outdoor seating no specific neighborhood, just prefer fun day drinking vibes.
Ranalli's Lincoln Park, good patio and dog friendly. Moonlighter, Paradise Park, Park & Field I also all brought my dog too, assuming they are still around.
Went to Miru last night. Too chilly for terrace seating unfortunately and the noise in the dining room was our only complaint. Food was excellent - the diver scallops especially.
I would just like to send a gigantic fuck you to Kroger for what they've done to Mariano's. Jewel has always sucked, but at least they have ample check out lanes open. At Mariano's you are lucky if there is even one check out lane open other than self checkout.
wife and I are visiting a friend and will have friday (the work day) to ourselves. he lives in the Lake View / Depaul / Wrigley area. I don't really need food recs as we can always find a reputable coffee shop diner, but what museum / attraction / whatever would you have us build our solo day around?
All the museums are pretty great. My favorite is the Art Institute personally. But just pick one imo. Again, if the weather is nice , Millennium Park is cool. You can walk up to Mich Avenue ect.
I would take the Brown line to Merchandise Mart. Cross the street and get on the River Walk. Stop and have a drink at Tiny Tap...then walk east along the river and stop and have a drink or get food whenever the spot looks right. You'll end up at the Lake and if you really want to keep going, you can turn north and go up the lake path to Oak Street Beach. That is my go to when I have friends in town during the summer.
Imagine perjuring yourself to protect Madigan when it was so blatantly obvious that the Feds were going after him Fucking dope Shortly after Mapes’ FBI interview, he was subpoenaed for testimony in front of the grand jury, but roughly 10 days later, asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. In response, prosecutors requested the court put Mapes under an immunity order, meaning that in exchange for his truthful testimony, Mapes couldn’t be charged in the investigation. However, the immunity order also meant that if Mapes lied while under oath, he could be charged. It was under those circumstances that Mapes entered the grand jury room in late March of 2021, where during those two hours of testimony, he was reminded three times of the stakes of lying under oath.
Is there a bar in the river north or Michigan mile area that will have lots of nfl games on the tv instead of vast majority of TVs on bears game? Specifically the Bucs game
I'd just go up to Greystone in Wrigleyville. They have Vikings stuff on the walls and will 100% have the game Not sure about River North area
