This was my least favorite moment in the show by a long shot. Mare's partner just got killed in a traumatic shootout because they didn't have back-up and she nearly was killed herself. Mare wouldn't race into another potentially lethal situation without back-up as soon as she got her badge back.
Except we saw John confront Billy and ask him to admit that he murdered her and he wasn’t acting like he knew previously and was trying to get him to take the fall. What would the point of that be?
Looking back on that scene, I can see how there’s some room for that not being news to John. “Dad saw you come in at 2:00 covered in blood” “I need to hear you say it” Then the next morning after Billy said he’s going to confess, John said “Are you sure?” Something smelled fishy there with John. Could be reading into the dialogue too much but that’s what makes a whodunnit fun.
I don't disagree that something felt fishy, but frankly that is one thing this show does that I don't care for unless they are all tied together somehow. They make almost everyone look fishy in one way or another.
I said this exact thing to my wife last night. I said if that kid died I was completely done with this show. I don't care how good it is, that would have been too much.
also, my wife thinks John's son is involved somehow. maybe the "secret" conversion between him and John wasn't about an affair. he never really said anything to his mom, he just nodded to her suggestions of what the secret was. also, we saw his violent streak in the cafeteria when they were messing with his sister. my argument against it is how would he be out that late at night, but maybe he snuck out and then called his uncle for help.
That could be. And maybe when Billy scolded John for "not being able to keep his dick in his pants" it was actually about Erin and not the affair. So then it probably would mean that John is the dad but Billy killed her. Though that would still be a little weird since Billy bought the pendant.
I think John is the dad of DJ. Billy said John needs to start taking responsibility for his actions for once, so I assumed it was related to that. No clue how Dylan fits into Erin’s death though if John and Billy were involved. Also, anyone suspicious about why the alluded to the rifling of the gun barrel, with the chief specially saying that Mare’s dad probably had one just like it? And then later in the ep, Mare states she hasn’t been in the attic since Kevin hung himself. Just two odd bits of info thrown in last night, wondering if it’ll all tie in somehow.
I'm not a gun expert but I assumed that old gun in the tackle box was one of the guns he was referring to. good catch on the attic though - that's interesting.
Believe they said the Colt that was shot in the park was a revolver, the one in the toolbox was def not
At its core, this show is really about dealing with grief. And what is grief if not murder durdering?
John is the dad, but Billy killed her I think. John is going to try to kill Billy next week and bury it all. The friend handed the chief a picture of John and Erin just my thoughts
I’m wondering if Billy is just taking the fall for John though. When he was asking him to say it I almost felt like he was asking him to take the fall for him.
This or Billy approached Erin wanting her to come clean, etc about John. Argument ensued and he killed her
possibly. Maybe he was too drunk and black out and John made him think he did it. I’m convinced John is the dad though
Yeah the captain seeing the picture and telling the other cop to immediately call Mare knowing she thinks Billy is the father is a definite. The more I think about it the more I think John is the killer. I think he’s getting Billy to take the fall and going to kill him know that Lor and the dad will say he was the killer. With Billy dead he can’t change his mind and say it was John. I think the secret the son and John have is that the son saw him coming home late that night and John’s letting him play it off as the affair because when the dad asked he said Lor thought he was having an affair. He wasn’t, he was just coming home late from killing the girl at the park. billy cleaned it up and moved her to the stream and why he was covered in blood. He’s gonna take the fall for John since he has no family outside of living with his dad. Also why he made the big deal about holding John accountable since no one ever does.
Yeah we saw John come into the bar when Mare was there, but that hardly eliminates him as a suspect. I believe Billy came in with him IIRC. Could be wrong on the Billy part.
Oh I forgot about that. I mean we know Dylan is involved too since he told the bf girl that the three of them are tied together for life.
I don't think Dylan had any idea the kid wasn't his. I wonder if he was just into something stupid like drug dealing and was worried about it being in journals but had nothing to do with the murder.
Still not sure what Richard’s purpose is. Idk if they’re gonna throw some wild curveball at us or if he’s genuinely just in the show to give us a better look at Mare’s personal life. Edit to clarify: I don’t need some wild development with him by any means. His storyline has been fine even though it’s not what you’d expect from someone like Pearce. Maybe Mare dies and he starts a book about her or something.
i read here or somewhere that pearce replaced whoever was originally cast, maybe it was never supposed to be a big part
Yes, given the way the plot has developed it would be horrible writing for him to have any involvement in the murder. That kind of twist would be a cheap gimmick considering we have seen nothing that would point us in that direction to date. He was probably just a tool to learn more about Mare.
yeah- her choosing to go out with her partner rather than the writer was useful to demonstrate her motivations- motivations of course his mother also figured out.
Yeah, lots of possibilities. I wouldnt be suprised if all three had a specific role the evening of the durdur murder.
