so in the area for Italian: Quality Italian is over priced but solid food, a tough reservation. Osteria del Bianco is lesser known and very good. Arno is a solid spot, been a few years since I’ve been there but nice classic red sauce spot. Heritage Grand Restaurant is newer but solid Italian right on Bryant Park. For Asian: Chili is really good Chinese food, Korea town has a ton of options but I’d recommend Her Name is Han or Hortus, Mari.Ne is a new hand roll spot that is great, affordable but may be tough to get into. Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao-Manhattan is a really good soup dumpling and noodle spot. None of these places are down the block from your hotel but mostly within a 20 min walking or very short cab ride. Hells Kitchen probably has some good places too but I don’t know that area as well.
i realize granny za is a not exactly legal dispensary but the prices are so nuts, will go again this trip assuming they'll be shut down next time back. 1200mg of edibles for $40
you can buy weed at pretty much any bodega/smoke shop. They also sell shroom chocolates if you want to get a little weird.
devine https://www.chalongnyc.com/ https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/04/17/chalong-nate-limwong-restaurant-review Chalong (Southern Thai cuisine) is right near you. I haven’t personally been, but have heard good things. Chef used to work at Fish Cheeks and Soothr which are two of the best Thai restaurants in Manhattan (both downtown).
Im sure it was just state propaganda to get people to shop at their ‘approved’ dispensaries, but like 40% of the weed had either E. coli, salmonella or other gross shit which weirded me out
I kinda prefer the minetta burger to the black label so maybe get both. Beets and bone marrow to start are always my go tos
Quality Italian or Ci Siamo for Italian. Tonchin ramen is great. Go into koreatown and there’s incredible options her name is han, dons bogam, olle, moono...
Flying home after another obscene trip The best bite might have been the samosa from the dosa guy by nyu. The coconut hot sauce stuff is nuts.
Per Se was great. Death and Co. was great, except the food was mid. Please Dont Tell was mid, but the pastrami dog was great. Augars Well Bar decent beer bar. Empellon al pastor mid, but good happy hour. Blind Tiger still great beer bar. Wah Fung No. 1 was incredibly good, also went to dinner at Uncle Lou's that was fantastic. Roast pork/pig at the former and the dim sum options + peking duck at the latter. Brought Wah Fung on subway to eat Bryant Park christmas market, always a great time. Russ and Daughters still elite. Assumed Dominique Ansel was more hype than substance but the kouign amann and chocolate/coconut croissant were fantastic. Papaya Dog was bad. Parisis Deli sandwich the dennis w/ peppers lived up to the hype. Nolita Pizza and Joes continue to have great square slices. Williamsburg Pizza had a great slice. Pizza loves sauce had a very pedestrian slice.
I’ve been bummed with PDT my last few trips. If you are there for the cocktails Death and Co is still my favorite but also have really enjoyed Attaboy and Double Chicken Please.
Really enjoyed it. Incredible performances. Only thing to critique is that it's a surprisingly low rent show, real basic set designs and such. Think we're used to the mega productions vs smaller operations like this one.
Meh. It’s fine but more sizzle than steak. Been a minute for me but I enjoyed other dishes better — bbq calamari with pepperoni fried rice, garlic bread, garganelli and the scarp. Bad Roman, funny enough, was much better than anticipated. I thought that was all IG bait but food was pretty solid
i didn’t order the lasagna at don angie and still had an excellent dinner. Maybe that’s doing it wrong but there’s lots of other good options. i went so asi wind’s inner circle card/magic show tonight. it was pretty fucking sweet.
Any kid friendly-ish recs on upper east side for dinner tomorrow night / lunch around Lincoln center Monday?
Lincoln center is my old stomping grounds. Would recommend Cafe Luxembourg on 70th if you want more of a locals/neighborhood bistro feel. The restaurants by LC are definitely a bit bigger. PJ Clarke’s (burgers) has a location up there which is really nice, and the smith (new American) is always a solid option- both of those are catty corner to Lincoln center. Cafe fiorello is in that same stretch and has good Italian
The kid picked momofuku noodle bar for tonight so that's set. Cafe Luxembourg was my choice for tomorrow but good to know about the Smith. Got a Rez for Family Meal at blue hills on Wednesday night. I also have a spot at Oxomoco on Tuesday night but I'm fairly certain that's going to a pass with the plans from the missus
brooklyn your hotels are too expensive (and/or have horrendous reviews) going to end up just staying in chinatown and hoofing it over there for a summer-ish trip focused on beating around brooklyn
I've settled into the belief that my best value is mid-tier spots in the financial district. Being within a 5 min walk of Fulton or Wall St in particular seems to work ok for me.
the temptation to leverage points to stay at the Hoxton so I can eat at Lazer wolf multiple times is p high
We are running the Brooklyn Half in May, and I booked the Tru in Brooklyn. It was crazy cheap (for Brooklyn), but I’m not sure if it’s even built yet. I may end up looking in the Financial District, so if y’all have Hilton recs there, let me know.
Is The Happiest Hour a good spot for after dinner drinks in the west village or does anyone have a better rec?
It’s fine, there’s a million places there as I’m sure you know. Anything in particular you’re look for? Specific vibe? High quality cocktails?
One of the most common ways to qualify for the New York marathon is through the NYRR “9+1” program. Basically you join NYRR, run 9 qualifying races and volunteer at one race and you’re in for the next NY Marathon. Brooklyn half is one of those qualifying races.
