La Contenta = good brunch DBA = great bar for pups Boris and Horton = same for pups, just morning coffee
Will be in town tomorrow for 1 night. Lunch near Times Square, cocktail party near Bryant Park, so staying near Times Square. Friend just had to cancel for dinner, so if I end up doing dinner solo, where’s the best place in midtown I can eat without a reservation on a Tuesday (or a reservation on short notice)? High end, cheap, whatever—simply looking for dank. TIA
i had a fantastic time being old timey at Keens which is....still midtown i think? Quality restaurants also likely to be able to handle a walk in
Flying solo in the day with the kiddo tomorrow. Any decent lunch spot recs around Central Park? Worst case, I may just end up at Momofuku Noodle Bar
What part of the park? Jupiter, Le Rock, Lodi at Rockefeller center are good choices. Maybe not best kid places.
Meeting my wife in the city for dinner tomorrow night… Who has a rec for somewhere nice in downtown brooklyn (or fort Greene)? Normally we just grab something from the deKalb market but tomorrow is our anniversary. edit - I will also be taking the subway from DeKalb to WTC and the PATH to Newark so I can stop to eat anywhere along that route.
gage & tollner Miss Ada Vinegar Hill House Karasu Insa Noodle Pudding Or if you really want to hit a home run, head down a bit to Bar Bete
shawnoc I was going to say Sefolia or Colonia Verde or Walter’s, and then the bar in the back of Walter’s is Karasu, which Nelson listed above
Wife and I are thinking of visiting with the kids next month. Anybody ever done Spyscape? Anything else in NYC that a couple of 11 and 13 year old kids would like?
I'm admittedly bad with kids but get them on the water via either Circle Line, the east river ferry, or the staten island ferry. Maybe the gondola to roosevelt island too.
Visiting with my Brother next month and he’s never been before. Staying in Soho. I love Death and Co and PDT so we will definitely hit those. I could use a beer bar recommendation since he is more of a beer guy. Italian I have done Carbone and Rubirosa before. Was thinking about trying to get a res at Don Angie. My brother wants Momofuku Noodle but trying to push that to a lunch, I like it but it doesn’t blow me a way for a dinner. I really want to try Cote but 2 people can’t be seated till 10:30pm. We could use a good dinner option other than Italian or a steakhouse.
Thanks for the recommendations, gentlemen (and ladies maybe, idk). we decided to go out even though the air was on fire so we were limited to places that we could get an inside reservation on short notice. We wound up going to Claro and she was very pleased. It was a 4 course prix fixe and we always make sure to order different things. Pretty much every course, one of our choices was amazing and one was fine. Iirc, the best choices we made were the Tuna tostadas (she said it was the best thing she’d every tried), the barbacoa tacos, the pork cheek, and the mezcal ice cream. The venison pechuga was great too. Thanks again for tbe recommendations. We will choose another one from the list on her birthday in about a month.
Never seen JFK T4 as busy as it was this AM. Took 10 minutes to get down to arrivals bc departures was so jammed. Apparently there is a security line there and the precheck line has zero (0) people in it. Def a game changer if you’re just carrying on.
I won!! But really, glad you two enjoyed Claro. A good friend of mine works there so I’m a bit biased.
There’s been a line down 37th and up Madison yesterday and today around 9am. I didn’t ask and my assumption is a sample sale? Can’t be for that restaurant Chili right?
Yeah I thought Cafe China was the only good Chinese place in midtown. Discovering Chili is a W for me
Never stayed there. But it's all gonna really depend on what you wanna do in the city/ages/kids etc to know what the right hotel and area is
It’s the preferred hotel for some Big Law Partners. Nice rooftop bar. Terrible location at Times Square.
Need another dinner for my trip next month. Going with my brother. Price doesn’t matter but not looking for molecular gastronomy or a 12 course small plate meal. thoughts on Cote, Thai Diner and Balthazar?
hi friends - I’m flying in for business and will be stuck in fidi the whole time - where can I buy weed there?
