Oscar hadn't had any reason to go under since he was 3, so it had been 9 years... I could poke him in the eye with a needle & he would wag his tail at me. He will not, under any circumstances, allow me to brush his teeth. I'll be doing it regularly going forward, so he's gonna have to deal
Dental cleanings could start as early as like 3-4 yrs of age. Dogs generally don't need it as often when they are young. But once they hit like 6-8 yrs old it is preferred to do it yearly or as close to yearly as possible. I've seen cats and dogs do a 180 after a good dental and some extractions.
Been thinking of getting a second pup for a while now. Wife's coworker just had a litter of german shepherd puppies. itshappening.gif Spoiler Maybe.
Volunteered with my favorite rescue group this morning at an adoption event, ton of pups got adopted, such an awesome feeling seeing dogs get to go home with people who are obviously in love with them. Got to do my first home check prior to an adoption, incredibly nice couple, it was the wife's birthday and she fell in love with one of the Aussie mix puppies. By the time they were done filling out the paperwork she was holding the dog and crying. Got a little dusty for me too. Really wanted to take this guy home, but a puppy isn't in the cards right now.
I've thought about volunteering with the organization I got my dog from. I fear that I'd fall in love with all the dogs and end up with all of them. Have you only done adoption events?
couple adoption events, one puppy transfer (picked up from owner, delivered to folks who were adopting the puppy). Donate items and stuff when we can too. I really want to foster as well, but with our jobs its just not something we can do. Retirement goal for sure though.
Yup. She was pretty much perfect from the get go. I was going to get another lab in the near future anyways and was writing my thesis at the time. She popped up at the local shelter and I fostered her to get her out of the shelter and to give my dog something to do other than bug the shit outta me while I was home writing. It worked out well for everyone.
Rory turned 9 in December we have gone cross country skiing the past two days in an area where the trails aren't groomed and I have never seen him happier or more rambunctious. It's amazing how much he loves winter considering he is a shorthaired dog. Got home a little bit ago and he went straight to my room and is now napping on my bed
I could come to Tampa. How old? Damn my wife would be pissed. Glad I espouse the SGGITSPSGMI theory. Spoiler She'll get glad in the same pants she got mad in.
He's only 2, according to the guy we got him from. He's really playful and needs a large outdoor space like we have for him. Not a swimmer but loves water
If you're looking to help fosters but like me are worried you'd try and take everyone home, the GPA is always looking for sponsors for their retired greyhounds while they wait to be adopted. Sponsorship helps withe food, vet bills, etc. http://www.gpanashville.org/401grey.php
Yea my dog can get a cut and scar from a leaf blowing in the wind. I can't imagine would could happen at a dog park with all the dogs there even if they are just playing and their owners aren't being assholes. Not too mention the asshole owner/dog combos that frequent some of them.
I live on 90 foot lot, but nothing like acreage to roam on. but boy could I couch cuddle with that big boy.
Meet Pax - my roommate's new German Shepherd pup. He's 6 weeks old. I live about 30 seconds away from work so I'll be going home a couple times a day to take him out.
Stopped by the Orange County Animal Shelter today. Depressing to see the condition of some of the dogs. Most were pit bull mixes. Several had warnings not to have them in yards with garden hoses. Guessing they were abused? I believe I'll be going back soon...
Wife was looking at the website this morning, there was a 2-year old pug on there. I looked and it already had 2 applications for adoption, so I called to ask if that meant he was for sure already adopted, they said yes. I'm surprised he lasted 9 days honestly, they said he had been there since the 20th. And yeah, some of the pictures are heartbreaking, so many pits and some of them look incredibly emaciated.
Woke up this morning to find my dog limping due to a split toenail. Going to the vet tomorrow morning I guess to have the nail clipped. I think this is the right procedure right? I've never had the dog's nails trimmed before
Any of you Florida peeps looking for a new pup, our local rescue group just put these on their website, they are going to go so fucking quick. Litter of boxer mix puppies, their mom was killed by a car just before Christmas when the pups were 9 days old. This is one of them, and the link to the page that will show them all. http://www.thepixelfund.org/available-dogs.html
Both of the litters i posted about were at the event today, i was surprised that more of them didn't get adopted right away. I'd imagine several of them will be gone in the next day or so, seemed like a lot of people were going to put in applications. Boysenberry was adopted, Cranberry will be adopted as long as the guy's home visit goes well. One family was trying to pick between Goji and Loganberry. Puppies never last long.
Murph. Tonight he pulled my dinner off the counter while I changed the baby's diaper. Was subsequently banished to the back yard and now is trying to get back in my good graces.
Oh he knows it. Sent my wife a video of it. Once I let him back in for about two hours any time I looked at him he put his head and tail down and slumped. I was not happy and made sure he knew it. Gave him some scraps a few minutes ago and we are friends again.
couple weeks ago me and my buddy took our pups to a baseball field to run around. there was a small hole in the dugout fence neither of us notice. paige got out and was running around. two guys were walking by the field and shouted "hey man control your dog" as paige sniffed those dogs and ran...across four lanes of traffic. i caught up to her and was about in tears. some guy walking had seen her and grabbed her a block down. had to laugh a bit just seeing how happy go lucky and oblivious paige was pretty scary moment but i wish i could see those dickhead shitheads again. playing the moral police as a dog runs across a real busy intersection is a fucking asshole move
So Scarlet ate 2-1/2 sticks of butter. Other than some gnarly poop later, and maybe high cholesterol, do I have anything to worry about? She's acting completely normal, no lethargy, etc.
It'll run through her system and she'll be fine, there's far worse things she could have eaten (garlic, onions, grapes, etc.).
thanks, didn't think it was going to be a huge issue but she's never been a "eat everything in sight" type dog, so this was way out of left field, I wanted to be sure.
She appears to have been fine since it happened, i think all is good. If she had a cardiologist though, i'm sure he would be displeased
1. yes a nail trim is the correct treatment for a split toenail. The vet may put a bandage on the dog's foot with some quikstop on it, and prescribe the dog some antibiotics and 1-2 days worth of pain meds depending on the split. 2. Butter isn't going to do anything to the dog besides either make her fat and some nasty shit.
Limping lasted 2 maybe 3 days. Went to the vet on day 2 spent $65 on a visit and antibiotic. Didn't trim the toe nail bc the split went so far up the nail. Also didn't put a bandage on but said keep her off it for a week to 10 days. So Saturday we went out and got some exercise. She still yelps and licks my hand if I mess with that particular nail.
