Downtown. Hilton for a conference. I booked Swifts Attic already. I was told to stay away from Eberly.
Damn, my wife loved him. we only really watch the weather/news in the morning though so we havent seen him since he started doing nights
Haven't been to the new iteration of Swift's. Suerte Ezov Terry Black's Better Half Uchi Joe's Bakery All favorites of mine and very close to where you're staying
speaking of went to the terry blacks in lockhart this past weekend and that was some really delightful meat.
Holy shit snacks was no preparing for airport traffic. Got there when my plane was boarding. Still made it.
just a random add, if anyone is into this sort of stuff, but did the escape game austin this weekend, and it was awesome. it was 4 of us and had the room to ourselves but it was legit. had a couple first time escape room friends with me and they loved it too. highly recommend. nerd rant over.
I’d love to see Pearl Jam. if Mumford or RHCP are on the card again this year someone should get anthrax
I think PJ is in play. RHCP tour is wide open. Marcus is always lurking in the background. I feel like ACL will have a wildcard lineup this year. I’m excited.
Hello! Doing a solo trip over from Nashville for the eclipse. Staying downtown at the CitizenM hotel. Get in before lunch on Sunday. Leave at 8am on Tuesday. Not renting a car anymore cause I don't wanna deal with traffic etc. -Need some lunch, dinner, and bar/drinking recommendations for Sunday night. I'm 33 so don't want anything too young. -Thinking I was going to go to Zilker/Barton for the eclipse...it's like a 30-minute walk from my hotel. I was gonna go early and I will bring a backpack with food and drinks. I'm sure it'll be packed but it should be fun right? Is this insane or a good call? -need a dinner/bar recommendation for Monday night as well Thanks, friends!
J-prime Austin (not too far from citizenM) is my favorite steak I've ever had (SRF Gold Waygu Strip) 7-Grand or Kinfolk older crowd bourbon bars You're going to be right across from Perrys (good lunches and steaks but I like J-prime better) Take a Lime scooter to Zilker just don't die (you can take the bike lane on congress all the way down) Other than that there are a million good restaurants
So Austin is going to be the best place in America to see it apparently. But I'm like, it's an eclipse ...
eclipse happens every year, being in the path of totality is much less frequent. thats why all the excitement
So there are sorta two answers to this and they are both "Yes, it's a big deal." First off, it's basically just a random chance that the parameters of Moon regarding the size and distance from the Sun are perfect for total solar eclipses to be seen on Earth. If we were able to travel between different solar systems within the Milky Way, people would travel to Earth for total solar eclipses because they are so galactically rare. Second, I think the next total solar eclipse to go across the US (with the total blackout and white corona) will be in 2045. There will be one every couple of years in varying lengths/strengths around the world. So it's not necessarily a once-in-a-lifetime situation...but it's probably a once-in-a-lifetime scenario unless you actively travel to see them. I think statistically they go over the "same" area every 375 years or so.
There are probably going to be ACL-type crowds at Zilker for that so highly recommend the non-driving option
Why are people in the news seriously talking about Austin potentially losing power for several days because of this eclipse? I thought it was a joke but Mrs. Lau said her work and the news are both saying this seriously. Is the eclipse going to roast our fragile power grid or is this just people going Y2K doomsday predictions over nothing?
The super powerful rays coming from the sun that is completely blocked by the moon can melt steel beams
Sounds like just the thing the airheads in our neighborhood Nextdoor channel would circulate. My favorite was the 3-4 times last summer that someone on there that 'claimed' to be friends with someone at Austin Energy and warned everyone that we were going to lose power for days.
I honestly don't even know what the logic was behind it. But we now have a few gallons of water and a ton of chips and snacks to get us through the hard times of Eclipse2K
I forgot to turn off my water delivery service for a few months and I now have ~100 gallons of water in cardboard boxes in my closets. That was fun to transport during my move. But at least now I never have to worry about stocking up
