I was gonna reply to houtex716 and say that location really doesn't matter because they're staying with us out east anyways, but hell if I'm driving to Lockhart for BBQ. If I happen to be in that area I'll hopefully remember that recommendation but I don't care about any food enough to drive ~45min each way to get it (esp with a FIL in tow) They're from Chicago so any upper tier TX bbq I think would fit the bill, but felt like checking on Franklin's having a line just in case it's not like it used to be
yea interstellar is amazing. it’s right around the corner from my house and always has a line but you can get there maybe 30 min before they open and be one of the first few in line
Love me some terry blacks. I preach how dumb it is to take a 24 - 48 hour trip to austin and waste a chunk of it in the franklins line to anyone who asks. Terry black is on par with franklins and much faster
I’ve been to Austin five or so times and never thought about franklins because of the line. Colleague was treating me to lunch Thursday so we went. Got there a little after 11AM. Waited a bit over 30 minutes. I was surprised. Line may have been longer for Lewis BBQ in Charleston over new years. I then had some bbq in Denver on Saturday because some friends wanted to go. Good lord. Wouldn’t have fed it to my dog.
Did the preorder work around at franklins when I was with a group Would never wait that long, like others said plenty of comparable options with little to no line
Terry Black's is pound for pound the best BBQ in the city limits (quality vs. accessibility) but the wait on weekend days is much longer than it was when we lived down the street ~5 years ago. Def want to try Barb's in Lockhart.
Interstellar is my favorite BBQ spot, but it's pretty far away from where I am, so don't go too often. Terry Blacks is awesome too. KG BBQ is elite, but a different style (Egyptian). Another couple sleepers are Leroy and Lewis and Morenos. Leroy and Lewis is pretty popular, but Morenos flies under the radar but I really enjoy it.
I love leroy and lewis, but it's not the first place I recommend when people are from out of state and looking for Texas bbq just because their menu isn't all that traditional I'm gunna have to check out this Morenos
Oh agreed, me either. It definitely is a little unique. I also like Cosmic in general, has something for everyone- coffee, beers, cocktails, etc.
Yea, I didn't really know what I was walking into the first time I went to l&l, cosmic is really cool. For not being downtown, their parking can be challenging though I wonder what's gunna fill the space where l&l is when they open up their brick and mortar
I was given my assignment by Mrs. Lau this morning. Had no idea a early 70s Chicagoan would have his mind set on getting Franklins while he was in town. Going to present him with options: 1- Franklins with the caveat of needing to get there 2-3 hours prior to eating 2- T Blacks was my spot while I lived on S Lamar and a lot less of a line 3- Interstellar based on its reputation ITT and I haven't gone yet (surprisingly only 28min from my house but it's all highway) TBlacks would also be the most efficient as a pre-game meal to go somewhere nearby and watch the AFCCG. Might take the old man to Rainey if it ends up being in the 60s.
Terrys used to have no line at all until around 2017. Probably the only place in town for years that I knew would still have beef ribs on hand after 12:30.
I've looked at the menu at least a half dozen times and my imaginary order is: 2 pom ribs, 1 lamb bacon rib, 1/4lb sumac and cinnamon lamb and side of the rice hopefully have room for the Oum Ali
The place serving the suadero tacos griddled in cheese, also had the fancy micheladas was out of this world. Was in the middle of the field/ring closest to the bridge
Roughly one week left in Austin before I leave for good. trying to check off some food places before I leave did Este and KG Bbq last weekend and doing La bbq this Saturday and probably just gonna do some taco trucks this weekend too, definitely doing Cuantos. Any other suggestions?
This place just got nominated for beard award best chef texas https://www.mumfoodsatx.com/bbqanddeli Anyone been?
Its down south and you can get it ubereats'd but I love the birria and the machete from https://www.yelp.com/biz/autenticos-michoacanos-austin-3
San Antonio to spend some time in my parents’ casita and recharging, relaxing then I’m off to Chicago
we'll be making our exodus from Austin sometime in 2025 unless the housing market crashes or something. gotta move to the same city as the rest of the family (BHam) for that support system for when we start popping out babies.
First time finally getting the La bbq beef rib I think I’m gonna miss the Mac n cheese more than any other comfort food I’ve had in Austin in my 2.5 years living here
Has anyone noticed a difference/change at LaBBQ since the passing of Leanne? I havent been in a while, just curious if anything has changed up.
