Whenever the snow melts and weather turns ill be starting to work on my projects. 51 chevy 3600 and 71 challenger. Wondered jf there was a thread on this board of others doing the same. Honestly don't know much about restoring but always loved classics.
Not sure yet. I picked it up not long ago so I haven't planned that one out. Always been my dream car
Recently acquired the vette. speed engineering long tube headers, catless X-pipe, straight axle back. I can’t hear myself think. Had a very aggressive cam though so the idle is perfection (imo). Still thinking about maybe corsa sport axle back or something like that to tame it down a bit. Still identifying a lot of the mods. msd airstrike intake manifold LSX 102mm throttle body Hawks sinister cam Wide body carbon fenders Carbon hood Flip up light delete/static lights (not really a fan) Full suspension (haven’t identified yet) Wheel offsets 345/30-19 888Rs on the back, 18s on the front And more. Still discovery phase
Clemson327 are you familiar with Hawks Motorsports in Easley? They tuned the ECM and dyno’ed trying to decide if I want to take it to B&B in Columbia for a 93 tune, or leave it at E-85
I am and have bought many parts from there. I’ve never had anything tuned by them, but they do good work. If you have access to e-85 closeby they I would stick with that for the time being since it’s a track car. I love the sound of an LS with Corsa mufflers, but just about anything sounds good with that engine. My 99 had longtubes and a Flowmaster system with an X, and it sounded fantastic when revved.
Will be posting itt about what we’re doing to this (deleted red calipers) in about 6 months. Ordered price locked locally with 10% deposit. 3lt Z51.
Man. That’s awesome. Now post the purchase papers because I’m not saying you are lying but if mean…you know….
You can think what you want. I’ll post itt plenty when it arrives. Deposit locked in price and a spot in line. Can’t purchase/order it until the allocation becomes available for the dealership which should be in the next few months. It’ll be that exact car above other than the calipers will be the standard z51 black calipers instead of the red. Wish it was the z06 but can’t get one without going well north of sticker. Dealer I’m using has not gotten one yet and thinks they will only get one. Have another fun car coming after this one.
Don't listen to them. UncleJesse didn't believe that my dad and I just picked up a sweet hatchback that we are working on, but we are running out of time. Spoiler
P1336 code thrown this morning crankshaft position sensor error. Wonder if my headers torched a wire. I’ll inspect this evening. The car itself is running fine
I don't think the computer will let the engine run if the cam position sensor isn't sending a good signal I had that issue when a cps went out on a non interference engine If it's an interference engine it can cause catastrophic damage if a valve opens at the wrong second
Well, next crank and no code, no check engine light asked another c5 owner with an aftermarket cam and he said it’ll do it from time to time and that a crank or two later it’ll pick back up
Had some more time driving the car today. It’s so much fun to drive, but still unsure on what to do with the exhaust. (To recap: long tube headers, catless Xpipe, straight axle back). It sounds so good but the drone is insane. Also, I feel like an asshole when leaving my culdesac or coming home. but the corsa axle back is $1800 so not sure what I’ll do.
Why not just buy a used exhaust to run on the street, potentially a stock Z06 titanium muffler system?
I don’t think Corsa sells stand-alone mufflers. I can look into other brands though. Mainly looking into corsa or borla for the “no-drone technology”. Most people say there isn’t any drone with those systems. I’ve read that flowmaster and manga flow still drone pretty bad.
This was my dad's Vette. Been sitting for several years. Working on getting it cleaned back up and all that good stuff.
Pretty much. Too much Bama in us. He has a 73, 74, 76, 84, 87, 89, 98. This one is the 87 and the only one he ever kept for any long period of time.
How are C4's to own? Can you find them with a stick? The chances of me buying one are pretty much zero but it's basically fuck you money at this point, right?
They are good cars. Just avoid one with a Cross Fire Injection. They are turds and have lot's of issues. Make sure its a Tuned Port Injection. They do make manual but I believe the majority were automatic. Been seeing prices rise a lot on C4's and third gen Camaros lately, so you might run in to some sticker shock.
Interesting. I don't have an issue with a C5, but C4 was what was around when I was a kid. The CFI is just throttle-body, right? Those would be early cars so I'd expect some issues. I always thought I wanted a late C4 with the LT1, but apparently there isn't as much parts interchangeability. I'm also nervous to get something pre-OBD2, but then I own two euro cars so I'm probably just traumatized.
Cross fire is a throttle body injection system. Tuned Port injection the fuel is injected into the airstream in the intake port of the cylinder head.
Brand new battery but something is pulling the power when the car is off. Put a tester on it and can’t find anything. Any ideas or just possibly a bad battery?
Do you have an ammeter? If so, the easiest thing to do is start measuring the current draw at the battery then start pulling fuses.
Then I’d do the next three one at a time and see if any of them show something. I’m assuming the wiring on that Corvette is similar to other GM vehicles of the era. 1. Disconnect the wire running from the starter post to the fuse box (should share the post with the cable coming from the battery. 2. Disconnect the battery cable running to the starter. 3. Disconnect the cable running from the battery to the alternator. 4. Disconnect any wires from the battery to electric fans or any other accessories connected straight to the battery. Edit: did it happen after being run for a little while or just sitting? If it was after running for any time with the new battery, I’d verify the alternator is actually charging it.
Just a reminder to not cheap on tires. Story: We have an older MB wagon. It came with Toyo Extensa HP2 tires. THey have been a headache from the beginning, although the roads in Birmingham suck. Lots of punctures (probably have had 4-5 plugs done on these, too), but lately, even sidewall failures (with no rim damage). I think I've bought at least six of these tires even though it had a fresh set when we bought in 2019. We have a newer van with low profile 19's that drives the same streets but never gets a puncture. Got wagon tires replaced with General Altimax today: much less aggressive grand touring tire that has good deals going and will be easy to source for replacement if I get more flats (I expect I will). $800 because of deals, but I expect this will be way better than the Toyos. Fingers crossed.
This grinds my gears with my in-laws. They have money but go cheap on important shit like tires, plus they never monitor air pressure. So FIL has blow outs and failures all the time. Side note, the wife’s car is getting new tires tomorrow.
Speaking of tires, has anyone tried the Cup 2? https://www.tirerack.com/tires/michelin-pilot-sport-cup-2-connect-240 I have the Toyo 888R now but heard these are better for various conditions. $600 per rear tire hurts
I’m waiting on a delivery of a gallon of Technicians Choice Ceramic Detail Spray. Can’t believe I’m excited to wash the car but I’ve started to really enjoy the process.
Allocation came up for the C8 a few weeks ago so it should be here in the next month. High wing was constrained so just going to have the regular z51 wing until I replace it. It will go straight to the spa for ppf and ceramic.
