2 episode premier on August 23. They're promoting the hell out of this with new YouTube vids every day for the last 7-10 days.
I assume this is Ray Stevenson’s last appearance acting? Not sure if he’s in other movies or shows that haven’t been released yet. R.I.P. I’ve been trying to binge through Clone Wars to get caught up on Ashoka’s story.
You would almost certainly enjoy the show more if you watched Clone Wars first. You probably don't have to watch it if you just have a base line understanding of who she is.
There's probably a good "what you need to know" video on YouTube if you don't have hours to invest before Tuesday. But you'll be much more invested in the characters if you watched Clone Wars and Rebels.
Just re-watched the ending arc of Clone Wars S5. The council did Ahsoka dirty and it makes it easy to see why Anakin seemingly turned so quickly in Revenge of the Sith. It's also funny when shows so blatantly rip off other movies/shows like this arc does with The Fugitive.
you aren't wrong, but it's also not a unique storyline. It's been done a thousand different ways. And yeah, that storyline does start putting the seeds of doubt in Anakin's mind. But let's be honest Cardinal Richielieu Palpatine and Tarkin were right there accusing Ahsoka.
Last 4 episodes of Clone Wars should have been in the theaters. It's the best arc in Star Wars by a wide margin.
I was watching a video on youtube about why Ahsoka is such a good character and it's that her character actually matures from a head-strong arrogant kid to someone who's willing to leave everything she knows behind to a rebel cell leader. Like there's actual progression you don't get a lot.
most reviews are saying if you're a fan of the animated stuff you'll like it, and if not you wont and im not sure why they continue to do this
make the shows as a wink to the animated fans like the blue guy in mando everyone freaked out about him but as someone who doesn't watch the animated stuff he was a nobody and they never really explained or expanded on him so it's a poor watching experience for non-animated watchers
i'm very well documented on not liking anything Filoni has done but I dont think my point above is wrong I wasn't the only one with that issue
I will give it a fair shot, as i've done with all of them, but it was a post about how that has reduced my expectations
I will agree that Cad Bain's inclusion in Book of Fett was poorly handled. He should have gotten some kind of arc to give the non-animation watchers some reason to care. Where I will hard disagree with you is that they shouldn't be writing shows for animation viewers. It's not even a controversial take that the animated series has some of the absolute best SW content out there. If you aren't willing to watch it for whatever reason, that's on you and not Filoni or his target audience.
Is your answer that they should ignore the animated shows and treat people like Ahsoka, Bo-Katan, Sabine, etc., as new characters for everyone in the audience? Or that they just stop using all characters from the animated stuff in live action shows?
I'm with you on Boba Fett in general, I don't think we ever needed to see him again, but Ahsoka is one of the best characters in the Star Wars universe and her story wasn't finished. this is something very much worth doing, if they can do it right. I don't think you're giving it a fair shot if you go in knowing nothing of the character and expect to like it.
I think there's an in between of treating them like new characters and treating them with zero exposition/back story that I would prefer.
I watched the final season of Rebels or Clone Wars, whichever one has the order 66 stuff and didnt care for it. And since everyone said that's some of the best stuff ever, I feel like the rest would definitely not be for me.
I don't expect you to watch all of the Ahsoka essential episodes that D+ has up, but at least find yourself a decent youtube video to get you started.
She's literally one of if not the most popular non-OG character in the SW universe. It was only a matter of time she got a show. If people don't want to take the time and see why the animation watchers love her character, that's 100% on them.
I get that, but that being the expectation is the odd part for me. It's like if Marvel never did the introductory/origin movies for the avengers and just hopped in to them midway assuming everyone has read the comics.
personally, she's my favorite character so you don't have to convince me, but I didn't want to go full fanboy.
I haven’t watched Clone Wars much, and have no background knowledge. didn’t read the reviews, but saw IGN gave it a 7 and gamespot a 2! Nonetheless, my wife and I love watching these Star Wars shows, and we will watch the whole series.
the size of the audience between the animated star wars stuff and the live action star wars stuff is essentially the difference that should be treated as a different medium
I think, in general, they have done a good job of doing that in the live action stuff in Mandalorian. The Cad Bane thing wasn't done great, but your annoyance with it seems more like you want to be annoyed than anything. Ahsoka is a different thing. If you don't like or didn't watch CW or Rebels, that's fine. To each their own. But it would also be kind of weird to then watch an Ahsoka show and think that the target audience shouldn't be people who already love the character and know the back story.
I only know of Ahsoka through her Mando episode (which was one of the best episodes of the entire series). That's all the knowledge I believe I need to have going into this series and am counting on them to either have a self-contained story within the series that can be followed without watching any of the animated series prior to viewing, or use some sort of flashback mechanism to give me said background necessary for following the series' story. Just like they did with Mando and Boba Fett However, I never finished Book of Boba so I have no idea what a Cad Bane is. But not having a huge backstory on him, in a show about Boba Fett, doesn't seem crazy to me. I think they should continue to write stories they think fans of the star wars universe will enjoy, with no regard for fandom of animated vs. live action content. Everything they've done so far (apparently except Cad Bane in Book of Boba Fett... which is called that and not Book of Cad Bane) has explained any necessary characters when needed. If that was legitimately the one outlier in their live action series characters then I think maybe AFB needs to just watch the damn show and not get pre-soured due to reviews. Hating on D+ and SW content is trendy these days and I'm sure plenty of reviewers out there are trying to capitalize on that. Maybe we all share a big glass of "wait and form our own opinions" before we derail the thread anymore before the show even starts. Cool? Cool
[I didn’t know who Cad Bane was in Boba and it was still cool. They made it work by setting him up as an obvious badass. Same with Ashoka. Didn’t know much but been watching some Clone Wars but then I skipped ahead to the season that shows Darth Maul because he’s my favorite. Ashoka was Anakin’s padawan. That’s why she said in Mando that we can’t always pick who our masters are because hers was Darth Vader. That’s really her biggest backstory and I doubt they cover it but she was ride or die with Anakin and Obi Wan through the Clone Wars.
Trying to get up to speed on the Ahsoka episodes. I can’t remember…did Ahsoka die dueling Vader on Malachor? And Ezra brought her back in The World Between Worlds? Kinda seems to imply that, but I haven’t watched all of Rebels.
