also the other difference from that is Jed seems to have learned his lesson and isn’t trying to actively run the head coach out of town
Guy Haberman mentioned it but the two 3rd and 4s really defined the game. I still believe the special teams got them to that point but still had a chance to win and couldn’t do it. Two minutes left and Shanahan trying to be aggressive and similar with the play dead almost instantly. In hindsight would have loved a misdirection run like I called in game but maybe wouldn’t have been much different.
Yea just seemed like one of those games where small little things just kept them away. If Kittle isn’t hurt with whatever he had going on (shoulder?) Brayden Willis never sees the field and this 3rd and 4 play never occurs.
Yeah had the nice 6 yard run. Then Kyle went back to the run and got stuffed then had the 3rd and 4. So many what ifs.
I’ll probably post more later tonight or this week, but just absolutely sucks we’ve had two great cores in the last decade+ and neither one has gotten over the hump. Willis, Gore, Cowboy, Staley, Bow, Deebo, Kittle, Fred, etc. Fuck. I’m not mad, just dejected. I feel bad for those guys.
Coming out in empty back sets on third downs when they knew Spagnuolo was dialing up blitzes on every third down resulted in a free rusher and a broken play every time. This one purely rests on the staff, there's no excuse for that bullshit.
This is up there with game 6 of the 2002 Giants-Angels WS for me; certainly ahead of 2013 and 2020. I’m still processing everything. I won’t touch the what ifs, we all watched the game, and you’ve all covered them pretty well. I’m just really bummed for my Dad who might not get to see another SB victory. I was hoping they’d get one for him, and for anyone else who has never seen the Niners win one. I feel like this was the year, and it’ll be hard to get back there, or assemble another roster like this for a long time.
I don’t understand the positional value (especially with Kool Aid & Dejean available) but Pearsall is gonna be baller in Shanahan’s offense. Wonder if they’re gonna try to deal Deebo for a second.
Would make far more sense to trade Deebo than Aiyuk who is better and a more complete receiver. But seeing Shanahan attempt to have Jennings play the Deebo role doesn’t give me great hope that works out well.
Deebo misses 4-6 games a year so unfortunately it will need to be him that goes and has so much wear and tear
Maybe you guys have other needs, but I think you guys are gonna be very happy with Pearsall. Great hands and route runner. He was able to do the impossible by consistently getting open in a Billy Napier-designed passing offense.
Id been hoping he end up with the niners but not as a 1st rounder. Oh well. I’ll just be happy one of the few gator bright spots over the last two years ended up with the good guys.
Depends on what the offers were and if they thought he’d still be there. Two teams badly needing WRs were behind them. If they thought he’s the best on the board, take him. I was surprised they didn’t go corner.
Sure drafting a ton of guys who won’t play beyond special teams next year, Mckivitiz still going to man that right tackle spot and we got no one to mentor for the future……..underwhelming draft
Overall really just depends on how they operate next year with regards to who plays. If they run the offense like they did this year (I.e, more 21 personnel) then I don’t love the Pearsall pick. However with him and Cowley it does seem possible that Kyle opens up the offense which then the first round pick makes a ton of sense. I think Pearsall, Mustafa, Green and Puni could get run immediately. Then think Pearsall ideally allows Deebo to be gone after this year and Mustafa allows flexibility for Huff.
Would rather have reached to draft a OT, tbh, but I also didn’t follow any of these guys for the first time in forever. I get the Pearsall pick. After Deebo, Aiyuk, and Jennings, there was a considerable drop off at WR. Getting Pearsall helps, and ensures Purdy will always have a WR to throw to. I like the Green and Puni picks from everything I’m reading about.
