Gotcha. What I was more getting at is if it’s that big down there that kids that are age 6-14 play similar to American football here.
An Aussie would have to answer that but that's certainly my understanding. I know it's played at the high school level for sure so I don't know why they wouldn't play before then. I guess you might need a smaller field.
I'm not 100% sure on how it all works as I never played footy myself as a kid - at the very least, there would be inter-school competition from the start of secondary school (year 8 or age 12/13). But prior to that, there is a national program called Auskick which I assume is run between primary schools and the AFL (equivalent of the NFL), where kids as young as 5 learn the skills of the game and play some kind of competition against each other.
From age 12 kids can umpire footy as well. We usually get kids that play for their clubs at their home grounds to help fill the shortage of boundary umpires. It helps because then they get to play and then get to umpire the seniors where their Dad's or older brothers might be playing.
aussiefooty has umpired over 800 matches in her career which is an amazing achievement. She is a credit to herself with all the hard work she has put in over the years especially in a male dominated environment.
What’s happened to Clarko boss? He was meant to change it all around but your Roos have been rubbish.
Unfortunately it is. North are pretty much uncompetitive. I think the AFL should relocate them down to Tasmania.
I asked above but why is the referee blowing his whistle constantly and it appears nothing is happening. Play doesn’t stop or anything.
Anytime someone earns a "mark" (which just means you catch a ball in the air that was kicked by your own teammate) the ref blows the whistle to signify the mark was successful. Then the receiver gets a free kick from that spot.
Sorry boss, it’s true. None of your fans turn up to games so it makes sense to send North down to Tasmania. There are too many teams in Melbourne anyway.
They should have gone up to Brisbane when they had the chance. Instead it was Fitzroy that the Lions merged with and they've been a powerhouse ever since. Tassie would be a perfect fix for North but it won't happen as they're too stubborn.
It makes no sense going to 19 teams as that creates a bye every week. I can’t see them finding a 20th team in a hurry. So getting rid of one or relocating one makes sense.
Found this stat staggering from Round 7. North the 5th most experienced side in Round 7 and they dish out that rubbish. No wonder their fans are fed up.
The 19th license has been officially handed to Tasmania and they will enter the comp in 2028. Be interesting to see what nickname they go with. Tasmanian Devils?
Generally not - they're typically wild animals that would bite your fingers off if you tried to feed or pet them. Pretty cranky little guys.
Clarkson has walked away from North Melbourne. Sounds like there is more about to come out regarding his racist conduct at Hawthorn.
North Melbourne lose a game because they forgot to count how many interchanges they had. Their supporters have gone feral.
