I went with the gf and another couple when they came to the houston rodeo. Just miserable, luckily those rodeo shows last like an hour. As I anticipated though, i have gotten a lot of use out of it in getting out of other shit.
there is a difference between country and country themed. I feel like someone is trying to fool me into thinking I'm listening to country music.
The day "Shameless" hit number one was the day country changed. I remember my dad saying it was shit at the time, and I didn't get it, because I was too young, but it's true. That's when country artists started trying to break out of the genre into pop, and when Nashville producers started searching other talent pools for artists to put on the country airwaves. So I agree, blame Garth.
Yesterday I was taking my mom out and that Brad Paisley song came on and we thought it was Alabama and then his faggot self starts singing and my mom said "what the hell is this" mom
Country went mainstream. It used to be redneck, now it's acceptable to society as the South has become more affluent and closely-aligned with the rest of the country culturally. As with any genre these days, you have to go out and look for the "real" stuff. Not nearly as many people get music from tv/radio these days and the little bit that's out there is gonna be the blandest, most mainstream, pander to the lowest common denominator stuff in existence. The surefire stuff that can still sell a million even in today's climate. The good news is there's more choices out there than ever before; you just have to put in work to find it. If you like real country follow that red dirt thread on here, find a few guys and start branching out from there. Country guys with frosted hair and emo cuts is all kinds of :aero: though
Is this guy even really country? What makes him classified in that genre? He wear boots? Country label signed him? Listened to a few of his songs and honestly I wouldn't call this country music. In a couple videos he is wearing hippie apparel... Country is pretty strict about their apparel either being redneck or that flashy poppy country shit from a few posts back. Ryan Bingham is solid but I wouldn't call any of the songs I liked country..... JMO also Jamey Johnson blows cock. People down here in bama love that guy and Shooter Jennings. Act like they are the GOAT. Anytime someone turns that shit on in their car I attempt to jump out the door. Been successful so far
Get the fuck out of here with that shit. No one gives a fuck what you wear when you sing. Ray Wylie Hubbard shits on this notion. Ryan Bingham is about as country as they come. Rodeoed at Tarleton, writes his own songs, etc. How are Bread and Water, Traveling Jones and Sunshine not country songs?
To each his own. Kind of a cheesedick if you ask me. I would put him there with Jason Aldean and Billy Currington. He isn't real country, no matter what his whiny lyrics written by some Belmont music class laid down on top of overproduced electronic steel guitar may tell you. This guy wouldn't go to his show, I can tell you that: Tom T. Hall - Faster Horses
i stopped listening to country when rascal flatts happened lately ive been listening to a lot of older shit, george strait and collin raye--the classics
I blame it on Brad Paisley singing about the Protest Reformation. But, seriously, both men are honorable. Is it too much to ask for him to be able to differentiate between Martin Luther and Martin Luther King, Jr?
Whoa Whoa Whoa hillbilly settle down. You must have missed the part where I said "listened to a few of his songs" not "downloaded his discography"......
How could you listen to a "few of his songs" but not the ones listed? They're the most famous ones. As for calling me a hillbilly.... Well, I'm from the flatlands.
I listened to the first video of his posted which was a solo acoustic song called "Hallelujah" and is just as much of a folk acoustic as it is country. I then followed that up with 2 more songs from the same studio recording one was called "desperate" or something like that and don't remember the 3rd ones title. After your post I went back and watched the other videos in the thread posted and realized he is very much country and all of his music with a band in it (all they do is add twangy garbage sound) and I wondered why the hell he wouldn't just play by himself instead of watering down his talent with shitty backup. As for your anger towards my calling out him for wearing hippie clothes in one of his videos... You must have missed the first page of this thread as well as the OP. not surprised. Thread was started b/c of what country music performers are wearing now. Apology accepted
What Bingham dresses like sometimes is completely different than what Nashville fags are wearing these days
I will defend Garth on this and he is the best entertainer Country music has ever seen. I agree he opened the door for other pop country acts because he was one of the first that started some crossover, but his early stuff was greatness. As far as the Gaines stuff, there was a movie written just like George Strait and Pure Country that they jumped the gun with the album and even went as far as having Brooks host SNL as Gaines to promote the movie and at the last minute it fell through. Stupid move, but he wasn't as batshit crazy as me and everyone else thought when it came out. All the douchebag Sugarlands, Band Perry, Rascal Flatt bands took a little of what he started and douched it up to the max. Old country dudes have to be spinning in their graves.
there's still good country out there. It's just that the shit that makes the most money is aimed at 14 y.o. girls and fat housewives
Whoa. Let's not compare that faggy Gaines character to the GOAT movie that is Pure Country. I get what you are saying, but I refuse to compare Garth Brooks' douche alter ego with George Strait and Dusty.
There was supposed to be a movie about a singer named Chris Gaines. The album came out before the movie and then the movie was axed. Either way it would've been a terrible idea.
