Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread When did we have Ashley Young? I don't remember that. I try reading GoonBlog and ArseBlog and these guys are just all over the place with their theories especially GoonBlog. I agree you can't move on some before figuring out Nasri and Cesc but getting a quality defender or a striker has nothing to do with either.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread That's funny because Nasri isn't going to re-sign with Arsenal unless Wenger shows intent to win. Which he won't, so we'll have to sell him. If Arsenal sell Cesc on the cheap to Barcelona it will compound the misery. Ashley Young is a Gooner, I'm not sure why Wenger never really moved for him. Good player IMO, should have signed him from Watford but of course we offered 2.5 when Villa offered 10.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Sounds like Wenger is playing hard ball. Nasri doesn't wanna negotiate then they start negotiating with Lille over Hazard. Like the move. I don't see any of Nasri's potential suitors giving him over 90k a week so this should weaken their negotiating position.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Never mind .. Ashley Young's brother Kyle is at the Arsenal Academy ... Ashley Young is a gooner though .. supports Arsenal while his father's a spud ..
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Technically I guess Barca could make a move. Still have that 20 mil or whatever in Ibra's release for AC then 10-12 for Bojan and other sales. Sounds like there is more interest in Alexis Sanchez though. Not sure what Barca's deal is with all these wingers and forwards.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Milan owe 24M for Ibrahimovic, but the clubs agreed that Milan would pay in 8M installments over three years... We live in a fucked up world when someone like Rossi is valued at over 20M Euros.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread I want the same deal for Cesc that Barcelona gave Inter for Ibra. *crossed arms*
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread hegoonblog The Goon Blog Just been told that Samba is very close to signing for #afc. Fee around £9m.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread He doesn't seem to like him but most the bloggers I read seem to hate on everyone. To me he helps immensely on set pieces and him vs Djourou is not even a question. I feel a lot better about our defense with him. Vermaelen-Samba then Kos as #3 and Djourou can earn his spot back after some miserable performances. Wojesch looked great against Argentina. Looked good tonight so far with good saves. Let in a goal but defender fucked up bad and he had no chance. I don't get why people like Valbeuna. He sucks imo. Marvin Martin is 10x better.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread While I'd love Gary Cahill over Samba, He'd be an upgrade over anyone in the squad barring Vermaelen maybe
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread I would welcome any defensive signing at this point with an erection I would welcome any defensive signing at this point with an open Yep...that's better
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Valbuena is a guy who everyone seems to write off but ends up becoming a key contributor to the team. Eric Gerets did it when he was at Marseille and Deschamps did the same thing when he first got there. But Valbuena always seems to work his way back into the team and ends up being very successful. Now I don't think he would ever be a good fit at arsenal though.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Negative for me. Samba is that big, tough presence in the box we need. I don't really see Gary Cahill as an upgrade over Koscielny who actually had a very good year but the CC blunder and a ton of mistakes later on by Djourou and no defensive mid made him look bad at times. Think he's a very good talent but hasn't had top flight experience and needs to be more vocal. Who knows if he even speaks English fully yet. A year or 2 as a #3 would be great for him. I've watched him for France more than club. Just never been a big fan. Don't think he can cut it on the international stage or in a better league but that's just me. Just reminds me of a smaller Diego who I think sucks as well.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread I agree with you about that. I haven't watched him too much for France but he is a beast when he plays for Marseille. Plus I wouldn't want him to come to Arsenal because we need more height in our squad. And Valbuena is tiny as shit.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Cool. I'm really happy about Wojesch for Poland. Coming off 2 great performances to get his confidence back. A good preseason and I look for him to have a big season. Having players like Vermaelen and Samba in front of him should raise the whole D's confidence. Wondering what happens with Clichy. He doesn't sound like a priority, would be awesome if Wenger had the vision of putting TV at LB. Doubt it and not sure he wants to play left back although he seems like a team player. Not even Wenger is stupid enough to think he can rely on Keiran Gibbs. Van Persie is iron man compared to him.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread man some of these articles don't even make sense .... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2001749/Manchester-United-open-talks-Samir-Nasri.html?
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread I don't mind selling Clichy, but 5 million to Pool is awful business by Arsenal. Awful.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread clichy had the most tackles of any player inthe premier league last year....
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/united-open-talks-with-1638m-nasri-2295333.html? LOL .. 8 million Nasri?!
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Nasri actually confirmed he's in ongoing talks with Arsenal tonight. Seems to be showdown time. Clichy is great some games and absolute garbage in others. Kinda hard to believe he had the most tackles. I'd rather get someone more consistent. If he's sold it's likely to Italy.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread the opposition going down his side as opposed to Sagna's could have something to do with that as well.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3629197/Arsenals-Abou-Diaby-I-own-and-wear-a-Spurs-top.html SELL THE TRAITOR.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Because Sagna knows how to play the position. Plenty of good left wings in EPL that Sagna shuts down.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread diaby that was the last straw... holy shit, we need a couple new starters and basically an entire new bench
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Sounds like Phil Jones deal hit a snag with United. Wonder what is going on with that. Seems weird after he took a medical.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread I came here to post the thing about Diaby, but I see it has already been posted. Good to know the boy has impeccable taste.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread So TalkSport said this morning Arsenal signed Gervinho, but there has been no other source that has posted. You guys seeing anything
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread BBC says we're talking to Lille but trying to get the price down a lil. Other source says we're chasing Hazard but that is unlikely. Arsene isn't paying 30 mil for him.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Yea I saw you guys aren't able to get a price agreed on. I'm ready for Gervinho to sign somewhere so we can move on
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread A LOT of pressure on Wenger and the board to make moves. Usmanov, Van Persie, Walcott, Djourou, Wilshere have made pretty big comments then the actions of Nasri. Biggest thing might be Usmanov, Kroenke doesn't wanna lose the fans this early.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/927644/jones-transfer-to-manchester-united-dispute-ramped-by-rovers?cc=5901 Blackburn Rovers are conducting an internal investigation into how Manchester United became aware of Phil Jones' £16 million so-called 'get-out clause' to leave the club. ESPNsoccernet have been told by Rovers sources of a belief that Manchester United must have had sight of the contract, or indeed been told of the contract, to be so specific about what is contained it in the contract. Rovers' advisers believe the clause is open to interpretation and the club's Indian owners do not wish to sell the player, and will not sell at the price being offered. Venky's accept that Jones was entitled to inform the club that he wished to talk to Manchester United, or any club, who are prepared to evoke the clause, but Blackburn's lawyers dispute that the clause means that legally the club are obliged to sell their player for the set price. Blackburn are contesting whether the clause that triggers the ability for Jones to talk to a club that offers £16 million also means that they are must accept the fee, or that they are entitled to ask for more money if other clubs are prepared to pay more. Blackburn want more for Jones and if United don't offer more, will refuse to sell. As Jones has rejected overtures from Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs, Blackburn know they will struggle to provoke an auction as rival bidders believe they are wasting their time on a players whose heart is set on a move to Old Trafford. That has left United and Rovers in a stand-off position, which insiders inform ESPNsoccernet could be resolved on Monday with some kind of compromise offer from Manchester United. If United continue to refuse to up their price then the issue might even result in Blackburn asking the Premier League how private and confidential contractual details were obtained by Manchester United. ESPNsoccernet believes that if United increased their offer to £20 million with some bolt-on additions then Blackburn will relinquish their legal arguments and avoid a Premier League complaint. The Jones transfer has become one of the most messy deals of this summer as Blackburn contest the validity of get-out clauses in players' contracts. It will also mean that the football authorities will need to look closely at the strength of get-out clauses and how confidential they can remain, or whether they have outlasted their usefulness, if they can produce disputes such as that has mushroomed between United and Blackburn. ESPNsoccernet broke the story on Thursday that the Jones move to Manchester United was halted over over a dispute about the players' valuation. Yet, for 24 hours the media continued to report that the deal was going through without any hitch as both clubs kept the dispute firmly under wraps. The player has already passed his medical and agreed personal terms with United, which normally happens after the clubs have agreed a fee. Premier League rules state that a player can only talk to a club and go through with the transfer procedures once a fee is agreed. Manchester United would argue the fee was already set, but Blackburn are vehemently contesting that interpretation's validity. seems like manu kinda cheated to get him, gonna have to pay big bucks to get him now
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Hopefully they aren't so nuts about Samba. YoungGunsBlog Jamie Sanderson The Denílson stat myth is finally busted by @OptaJoe. Yes he makes a lot of passes, but only 31% of them are forward. YoungGunsBlog Jamie Sanderson RT @GrooverBlog: Arséne Wenger tells French TV: "We will do everything we can to keep Nasri at Arsenal. He still has a way to go with us." YoungGunsBlog Jamie Sanderson Wenger on Cesc: "The Spanish press have been talking for years. I'll be clear: Fabregas is still a Gunner, and will be for a long time".
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Hearing Gameiro has signed a 4 year deal with PSG, any truth to that? Really hope that isn't true and would be a pretty dumb move for him considering all the better clubs that wanted him.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Newcastle and Valencia were the only other options. Wenger never showed interest. Valencia are broke too and PSG have money. Why there is pretty much zero chance of getting Sakho this summer even if Wenger wanted him. They don't need money and Sakho doesn't wanna really care about leaving right now. He should though, he's ready for a bigger league.
Re: Arsenal 2011/2012 Season Thread Ligue 1 has done a decent job keeping talent in the league lately. Marseille did a nice job last summer with Remy and Gignac.
