I get the feeling he worked for a private contractor in some wartime capacity. With his police chief he mentions a concern about his suspension, that "they're looking in to Black Mountain," and that what they did over there was "for America." Also those scars look more like burns than a motorcycle accident ...
Upon second review I really enjoyed it. Only thing that sticks out to me is Vaughn. I think they could've given him an accent or a different look to help distinguish him from his movie roles, but also expecting that it'll wear off as the character develops ...
Yeah, I would think that Black Mountain is a contractor doing something in a warzone. No telling what kind of shit he got into in some hell on earth like Fallujah.
Vince looks like he's going to crack a joke every time he speaks. His lips curl up, he uses the same cadence as he always does, and it feels like he wants to be a smart ass.
Yeah, no it isn't. Those are horrific and only a douche of the highest order would wear one in real life.
So I studied an online synopsis of the last episode, then watched again being sure to pay close attention and maintaining a strict sobriety. I really enjoyed it this time. I thought the scene in the restaurant with the lady singing and Colin drinking himself into a stupor was very powerful.
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/06/21/true-detective-season-2-premiere-recap/?_r=0 It was written by someone who seemed to enjoy it so I think that helps getting into it.
my roommate thinks he could still be alive and i am wondering if i live with a downs syndrome patient
You guys need to quit reading articles and synopses shaping your opinion and just enjoy the show. People were going to bitch about season two no matter what because season one was so great, and they went a different direction. That's an obvious reaction, but it'll probably help you take it for what it is if you just pay attention and try to come to your own conclusion. I understand that reaction, what i don't understand is how people thought episode one was hard to follow. Sorry just read all four pages and felt like that needed to be said, because we know how important this thread is.
the other characters aren't really interesting to me motorcycle cop is just mind numbingly uninteresting thank god we don't have to watch scenes with colin farrell and rachel mcadams because those were awful beyond words
In summary, really like the plotline and themes, but the acting is really substandard. It's like instead of trying to find the best actors for the roles, they went with the biggest names. I do think Ferrell was pretty good thus far
If anyone is interesting in additional bird mask-related entertainment, I would highly recommend Georges Franju's 1963 classic Judex
Farrell was good in the role, but his character was the most cliched one of them all. He was actually my least favorite. I was literally thinking during the final scene, "It'd be kinda cool if they killed off a main character GoT style and consolidated the story a bit" and then boom. So I am not disappointed in that ending.
