C chris long who he’s buds with brought this up on his pod saying something like “apparently ryen said something degrading about womens hoops, the guy keeps finding himself in these negative headlines”. To which one of his sidekicks replied “at some point you have to wonder if you’re the problem”
They didn't have to shut it down, but I would argue that Simmons getting fired makes it different than a "no good reason" situation. Ultimately, it probably would have still been a thing for a while if Bill was still around. When he was fired it had no chance.
Yeah I mean he got $200,000,000 for the ringer from Spotify and I’m almost positive they valued the website at $0 or less
would like an oral history at some point that goes over what exactly chris connelly did as EIC because my operating assumption is absolutely nothing
From what I remember reading in the aftermath of it all, it seemed like Bill disowned him and whatever relationship they had (Connelly used to be a frequent pod guest) when he took the job. Bill likely poisoned the well there with a bunch of people who were his crew, and they loved him because Bill was the boss but ESPN was paying them and could be blamed for everything. And I remember reading that Connelly tried to change some things that went over extremely poorly with people who were high on all the love they got from outside. And, to be fair, maybe the stuff Connelly wanted to do was stupid, too.
Could be. I never got the sense they didn't like each other or anything, but he was a Disney guy and didn't do a whole lot outside of those Make a Wish week stories.
if so hats off to whoever made that call a big part of the legendary jfk assassination pod with bill and klosterman
Bill and Ryen pretending it was an actual decision for them to have Tatum on their first team and Brown on their third team. Sure fellas.
something about how he and ryen have been elevating the basketball discourse and they didn't need jj and lebron to do it
"what's Maye gonna play at, 255???" Bill... what the fuck are you talking about? You think every NFL players just automatically puts on 25+ lbs of muscle? he is absolutely convinced Maye is Josh Allen 2.0
Oh I don’t fuck with Merril at all but hopefully this leads to some entertaining commentary on the next Josh Allen
Truthfully, when I read that I thought I was in the draft thread and not the Ringer thread. I have happily made it this far without hearing a single draft take from Simmons.
we all know projecting the draft is hard, especially QBs. as expected, people have become squeamish about putting firm takes out there. props to Merril for going balls to the wall.
It's funny to me that he's not even really affiliated with anyone at this point, right. He's just a guy who is willing to say things like this so people bring him back on for the #takes and clicks that come from them
not even that firm of a take, really like obviously youre likely to be out of a job if you whiff on a qb in the top 5 since the team will keep not being good
Calling his last game arguably the most embarrassing display from a projected top QB you have seen is pretty firm
while looking for short vids of Hoge trashing Maye, I stumbled upon the vid "Merrill Hoge doesn't think Caleb Williams is "special" . Didn't bother to click on that one
Such a great grift for Merrill. Trashing every top QB will get you clout in the short term, and then when the majority eventually fail you can get clout 3 years down the line as well.
Russillo had an obviously fake life advice but not sure if it was purposeful? It was a Lebron/Bronny spoof.
