Just to be clear, Matt, there's a big difference between going on bike rides and becoming a cyclist. The first big change is telling your parents that you're gay.
Don't you live in Austin? I actually moved here a couple months ago after living in Austin for a while. There's some good breweries in various parts and I've had fun going to Little Five Points and the Virginia-Highland area. Speaking of which, don't some of you buds hang out? I only have a couple of friends here and need a better social circle.
I've heard it's similar to Houston in that regard so that gives me a good feel. We have top golf in Texas which would suit me fine bc I wanted to play golf anyways but I don't think my crowd will be up for it. I'm thinking a solid lunch spot followed by a patio bar is probably the ticket. I wanna say we are staying at the JW marriot buck head but it isn't confirmed.
Gotta love this at the end of the article: In a foreshadowing of the referendum campaign that would follow approval of the MARTA bill, Roswell homeowner Mike Lowry said the money would be better spent improving east-west arterials like Holcomb Bridge Road. He cited a 2003 study of urban density by the World Bank. “Atlanta is the least dense city its size in the world,” he said. “No fixed rail can be a transportation solution for Atlanta, no matter how much money you throw at it.” http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/...u=hv4JFeLunQCJwY+0aqB0Hg0ba15d45&t=1455719229
What the fuck is Holcomb Bridge road and why does Waldo want Fulton, Dekalb, and Clayton to foot the bill for it?
runs right by my office out here in Gwinnett. all the Roswell and Alpharetta folks take it to work every day. also known as GA 140
more roads aren't the answer need to put tolls on dense populated roads and force these bitches out of their car
yeah they can gtfo with this shit. they all just want to make another 285 that connects Marietta, Roswell, Johns Creek etc.
It really isn't. We have a lot of barbecue joints that feature top notch preparation/execution but all of our barbecue is derivative.
yea no true identity other than the southern sides Heirloom is the only truly unique place to eat in ATL, but like you said - derivative.
that's a good point, and also agree with what Fran said about Heirloom being our only unique spot. I was just thinking about the number of good quality bbq restaurants, not in terms of a signature style.
You don't need a NYT recommendation when all you need to know is that the restaurant scene is "scrong."
Speaking of southern sides, I'm surprised we don't have a more prominent meat & 3/soul food scene. I think a large part of why we catch shit as being toward the bottom of Tier 1 cities is that we lack the defining characteristics of a Nola or a Miami. Upping our soul food game may help change that perception. But I guess that circles back to the white flight issues because such a large portion of our population would rather not embrace our Afro-American roots.
the places like this are in undesirable locations to the folks skeptical on Atlanta in the first place. Like Busy Bee Cafe or Paschals - literally right beside a college campus yet I know plenty of ppl who wont go over there. Home Grown is dank. Mary Macs is a tourist trap. A lot of these type spots are in the towns outside of the city. Athens had some legendary meat and 3.
what would Atlanta's signature BBQ style/meat be? I would think smoked chicken served with a hybrid tomato/mustard based sauce similar to a Johnny Harris or Mrs. Griffin's
gordon bombay what was the name of that southern restauarant on the west side near Tech that closed? Place was so good. Think it was famous for one of the tech coaches eating there all the time.
There used to be a solid one over by the Waffle House museum and Skip's but I can't think of the name right now
Ate their last week and didn't think it was in the same tier at all. It was good but Fox Bros is elite
Our Way? the Rising Son proprietors have ties to General Muir and Home Grown so I'm pretty pumped about it.
I think the sauce I described is a fairly signature GA sauce. it's kind of a split between a heavy tomato based Memphis sauce and a Carolina mustard sauce. it's just not that well known.
