It would be a bitch of a commute but if I were 26 and single moving here I would live in Inman Park. West Midtown would be a great compromise - maybe over in the Provisions district.
If I was 26 and single I'd buy a duplex around GT, rent the other side, and live for free eating #organicbananas #househacking.
Lots of shit to do this weekend. East Atlanta Beer Fest Fire in the Fourth Taco Fest in Grant Park Kirkwood Spring Fling. Is prefer to do Fire in the Fourth or EAV beer fest but all my friends are drinking in the hood. Fire in the Fourth was pretty fun last year. Street fest, a bit different. Lot of fun
High Cotton Where Eagles Dare Ill be at the kirkwood spring fling, at least for a little while. My aunt is bring over my dog from Birmingham finally
Beltline Boil a few years ago was the worst I've seen in Atlanta. If the beer lines are 45 minutes, you know you fucked up badly
Wasn't that there something in Candler park a year or 2 ago that was a dumpster fire? Oyster fest or something?
Has anyone been to Folkart or Cast Iron? If so any recommendations for what to get? Trying to knock out everywhere within walking distance, and those 2 are in the queue.
Thanks guys. Here now. Can't decide between Huevos Rancheros, Lobster Rolls, Chicken Sandwich, or Triple D burger (Bc their pic on the website looks real good, but I'll die as I'm not that hungry)
Did taco and margarita festival this morning. There were tons of food trucks there and some really good tacos. I got there at 11 and it was awesome, no lines. At 2 when I left it was packed and seemed pretty miserable.
Hello... Flying into your city tomorrow morning and going to the Braves game tomorrow night. Staying at the Embassy Suites Galleria that appears to be one mile from the stadium....any cool bars outside the stadium that I should try to hit before the game?
Bars surround the stadium. You can't really miss them. I've been there twice now and it's pretty enjoyable. Beer is decently priced outside the stadium.
Antico has really good pizza and a bar. You can't miss it when you walk up to the stadium. There are like 4 other bars there as well. Has anyone had the brisket nachos at Fox brother's? My buddy had them at the Tap room and I don't recognize them from their normal menu.
Bad news: I accepted a job in D.C. on Friday Good news: I adopted a puppy and am spending the next month and a half with him not working and doing all the Atlanta shit I haven't gotten to do. I'm gonna fucking miss this place a lot. I'm sure I'll continue to hang around the thread like our other transplants.
Saw this quote on my fb wall one time and it is so true. I'm losing 3 of my closest friends in the span of a month. "The most bittersweet part of living in Atlanta is the fact that you have a ton of beautiful memories with people who don't live here anymore in places that no longer exist."
D.C. at least you can get from area to area pretty well, but it's maybe one or two notches above MARTA.
Had free tickets to the Braves game tonight. Pretty sure the universe is telling me "Don't go to Cobb, fucker" with all this rain coming.
Moved here from DC a short time ago, feel free if you need recommendations on places to live / cool areas of the city to hang out. Not so fast my friend. The DC metro has been a mess for about the past year. Aside from the track work being done to improve system safety, they're dealing with a major budget shortfall. This lead the system to announce reductions in service while increasing fares. Decades of mismanagement by the system and MD / VA / DC and Feds unable to agree on a sustainable funding mechanism for the system have finally come to a head.
I need to get on that lyft life. Go to Uber pick up spot 28 ubers in line. Hit "Get Uber" "Your Uber is 5 min away" WTF??? How are they not doing anything similar to the queue at the airport vs just randomly assigning drivers? Makes no sense. Pretty ball park though
I had a parking pass for Friday's game and my experience was 10x better based on this alone. It was easy to get in/out. No traffic whatsoever getting on to 285 after the game and I stayed the whole time.
Going to Highland Tap this weekend, but I'm on a "diet" so I'm not eating desserts right now. Gonna be really hard to pass up that chocolate chip cheesecake
The Uber, Amex, SPG, crossover connection is so nice though. Uber gives me 3x SPG points for every $ I spend on an Uber trip taken during an SPG stay (1 point per $ spent during non stays), plus 2x points to my AMEX for any trip I take. Would much rather accrue hotel points than airline points tbh, but I'm a pretty big points nerd.
I'm a Hilton diamond so I feel stuck with them forever. I prefer to accrue airlines points, because I spend so much time in hotels that I replenish them much faster than airline points. Also I use uber or lyft depending on the cost and distance away.
Ugh. I was discussing this with a coworker recently. One of the things I love about Atlanta is that there isn't "The Industry." Everyone does their own thing but there's not one thing that drives the town. NYC - Finance, LA - Hollywood, San Fran - Tech, Dallas/Houston - Energy, etc. For D.C. its the government and I couldn't be less interested. Its full of self important 24 year olds who are too big for their britches. I don't give a single fuck what Senator you work for. I'm in the private sector and have no interest in crossing over to the gov't side. I call D.C. the hot girl with the terrible personality. It's a beautiful, well planned city, with a lot of cool things to do. But its filled with douchebags.
Yes - living in DC and not working for the Gov't in some capacity is the worst. It's like moving to a smaller town where everyone is high school friends and trying to fit in.
How do you like the move so far? I might have to make the same soon. I live in Chinatown now so would like to find a similar feel (if possible) in ATL
