so the rest of the world's Nexus users will probably enjoy Jelly Bean for months and months before Verizon finally gets it out to its customers even though they have a "Nexus" phone. yes, I'm still embittered.
it's really the principle of the thing. There's no reason for the delay. I'm rooted, but I'm not bothering doing much because as soon as the Note or its equivalent comes to Verizon I'm wiping the thing and selling it.

Yep. Rumors came out today that it might be July 5th, which is absolutely ridiculous because then I can't keep unlimited unless I get something else and pay a restocking fee. Was first rumored to be today, but obviously that didn't happen. Such a fuck up and the only new 4" on the market is iPhone. I don't want one of these damn tablet phones.
I took a long look at it as an option before they announced the S3, pretty nice phone but too bad they can't get it out sooner. I hate that its going to come to this and I will probably semi-regret it in the future but I think I'm going T-Mobile on the 27th when the S3 is in my market. Even though the phone will be more and they run HSPA+, with my corporate discount I'm looking at a bill of $72 a month with T-Mobile and $100 a month with Verizon. Difference is enough for me to take the plunge for now.
Isn't the S3 huge? Big difference between it and the Incredible, IMO. I would hate to leave Verizon, but yeah my bill might jump like $25-30 and lose Unlimited. I have no fucking use for 700 minutes either.
I'm finally cycling off my parents plan after finishing school and getting a job, money's a big deal now so that monthly difference matters to me even if it means a little lower quality service.

How do you make money from free installs? I would guess they get money for licensing it to manufactures to ship on phones? It's actually extremely easy though, just made it seem complex after thinking about the number of steps. Their model of restriction on devices and installs is pretty weird though.
the route to monetization of digital content can take many many ways (often multiple). A lot of variables.
The thing is they don't need to get that creative. Their product is unique and sells itself. I couldn't imagine a phone without swype.
No I get the process and in the grand scheme of things is pretty easy but on many models the resolution doesn't work and if they aren't releasing a beta test version you can't go to the site and download it. They make it infuriating trying to get it on your phone if the OS doesn't have it preloaded. They should put it on certain phones with licensing but for those that don't, put it on the Play store for 2.99 or something and quit fucking everyone around.

well I got my S3 yesterday, but I've been so busy this weekend I haven't had time to really get into it. Rooted it and created a quick HomeScreen, hopefully will get some time later this week to really customize it.
I'm pretty sure you can just go directly to the site and download it. That's how I had to do it on my Nexus. It was a beta but I've not had any problems with it since getting the phone in December.
Yeah it seems to be working great on my nexus. No problems at all so far. Missed the hell out of it as it came stock on my previous X and is by far the best input method. Anyone think the next Note comes to Verizon? My buddy just picked up the original and it's badass due to the size but at&t has extremely limited true 4g and Verizon is the only carrier I'll go with
I've got no concrete info but you have to think with the success of the first that Verizon is considering a similarly spec'ed device. Also, the Note is about to be released on T-Mobile. If it is a hit there it would only increase Verizon's chances of getting it.

They reportedly obtained all of the details of the device through a training document and are as follows: 7″ IPS display with 178 degree viewing angles (1280×800 resolution) 8GB and 16GB storage options, priced at $199 and $249 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor 1GB RAM Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) NFC with Google Wallet loaded 1.2MP front camera 9 hours of battery life Sound about right? It certainly matches up to the handful of leaks we had already seen a number of times over the last couple of months. I am a bit surprised to see the $199 version at 8GB instead of 16GB, but to keep the price down, they had to make a cut somewhere. With so much cloud storage floating about, that really shouldn’t be that big of a deal. Who knows, maybe Google will toss in free Google Drive storage to those that purchase this new Nexus. the most recent rumors I've read is that there will be a Note 2 device this fall on Verizon, but it's all still just rumors.

We first reported this as the next possible target late last week, so we aren’t surprised to see it come out this morning. One thing we are still surprised about is the fact that this phone will launch 2 months after it was officially announced back at CTIA in early May. Will we ever know the specific reason for the hold-up? Probably not. If I were a betting man, the first thing I would look to is Share Everything plans as being reason #1. It wouldn’t have made much sense for Big Red to push a new phone knowing that they had major plan changes just around the corner. With this phone now launching in July and Share Everything happening the week prior on June 28 (this week), they get to lock some upgrades and new customers into these new plans. Pricing is showing up as $199 on 2-year contract, but there is still a chance that a $50 rebate will be attached, dropping the price to $149. With the Galaxy S3 a much more impressive phone on the spec front at $199, I would hope that HTC and VZW wouldn’t let this phone try and compete with it.
Here is something cool for people to try. A developer on XDA has built an app that mimics the "Smart Stay" feature of the Galaxy S3. What this does is when you are using your phone it turns on the front facing camera briefly to see if you are looking at the phone. If you are, the screen won't time out. Been waiting for some beta versions of this app to come out. Doesn't work with the BAMF rom I've got. Might flash the CM9 just to test it out. Do you just go with whatever the latest nightly rom is when you're flashing it new?
I'd just wait till a new version of the app comes out. Right now it only works intermittently with CM9.
On a first gen EVO that refuses to update software, so I'm on 2.3 I think, worth it to spend the $200 and upgrade to the EVO 4G LTE?
Do you plan to stay with Sprint? If so then I would say absolutely. If it were me? I would explore other carriers who already have LTE networks in place rather than committing to one (by upgrading and extending your contract) that hasn't even started being rolled out.
Not sure exactly where I am stuck but it pops up every once and a while wanting to download the update, I DL it and go to run it and it simply freezes up with the little android guy and an exclamation point, I've done this probably 10 times, finally just gave up. That said, BB has LTE's in stock and are still offering a $50 GC, so I think I'll go pick one up tonight.
ask them to price match walmart which is 149 for upgrades. they are still obligated to give you the $50 gc because its not price matching, but rather a post purchase incentive. YMMV, but they are supposed to honor it.
your mileage may vary. they may say no, you might have to get a manager or another store to do it for you, etc
