I was suggested that 170k story but didn't realize it was party of a marketing push. I did not read it. If you're creating value, like all the drivers/delivery folks, get paid imo. I'd rather them have it than some corner office asshole who contributes nothing.
Yep, some of it is simply because Bluechecks are prioritized now and they're the most dipshit rightwing leaning users on Twitter. That number includes healthcare coverage or something right? It's not all gross pay
The one tweet I saw had some hilariously deluded idea about how many packages those guys deliver. Worked at UPS as a drivers helper back in the day for the holiday season (pretty good job for high school/college kids on break) and they’ve gotta haul ass to get things done at a reasonable hour plus the physical strain.
And they were doing it in a truck without a/c, I believe that UPS will have to install a/c in all trucks which is part of their new contract. Textbook case of why unions are necessary.
Poorly worded on my part, new drivers were not able to work full time right away, they had to drive part-time for 3-6 months, that’s what they did away with.
Preliminary results from the Denver Basic Income Project that's providing cash to hundreds of unhoused people for one year using the first 6 months of data: • NO ONE receiving $1,000/mo still sleeping outside • Full-time employment increased • Fewer visits to the ER • Fewer nights spent in jail
Saw it on a blue sky thing. Heres a link to a story https://denverite.com/2023/10/03/denver-basic-income-project-six-month-results/
Yeah, I've no idea how accurate this is but since I moved here I've seen a bunch of local news articles about how there's this money that the city, county, and state have allocated for this and a ton of the city and county officials can't seem to come up with a really good idea on what to do. For Multnomah county programs I read that Kotek didn't release 100% of the money because they couldn't get their shit together.
This shit makes me angrier than just about anything in a work place. It’s not like there’s a fucking barrel of PTO days in the back that could run dry. We got these all the time working at DoD sites.
Che was fortunate he didn’t live to witness the hypercapitalism that Michael Jordan brought to the game. The “Republicans buy sneakers too.” line would have given him an aneurysm.
