Tangent thought, things like this are what killed the atheist thread. The political avenue to demonize a particular religion is exceptionally easy. I'm no fan of religion in general, I think the mindset that there is an afterlife can result in strange decision making in this life, but in practice, secularism seems to have been co-opted into an argument between christian supremacy and a fear of islam, jmo.
Haven't caught up it either so siap but 'Slaw is getting into the well thought out overreaction to trannies having to per by filing a "bathroom bill" too Dumbasses, the whole bunch are unqualified to lead or govern a little league baseball team much less make and/or influence government or legislation
I've had experience in the last year with a state senator who represents an area in the western part of the state who has lost control of a tax credit apartment community after he ran it into the ground. Nice enough guy but no business sense at all. I made several replacement reserve exceptions to fund getting units leasable, went out of my way to help him craft a better operational plan. Still didn't get it operating anywhere close to underwriting. Last news I heard was an attorney calling who I referred to our in house counsel.
Is a goofy libertarian belief system that thinks slavery is acceptable (as long as you signed a voluntary contract) compatible with democracy?
It is useful though. People that don't want the medical experience can become clinical psychologists.
One of our representatives (one of the more educated and wealthy districts) had no management/business experience beyond a grocery store garden center when he was elected--at a chain where his dad is a VP. He also lived with his parents the first two times he was elected, hit a college roommate across the face with a beer bottle about 3 years before he was elected and caused significant facial injuries, maintains his own Wikipedia page, including references to HS sports accomplishment and being HS homecoming king, and either doesn't know what his degree actually is or is lying about what it really is to make it sound less embarrassing. His major accomplishments thus far (5th session) include trying and failing to legalize online fantasy sports multiple times and being kicked off the ways and means committee for being a stubborn dipshit.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/15/business/boeing-union-south-carolina.html?_r=0 How did 74% of workers vote against the union? That's fucking pathetic. Organized labor is dead in this country. National RTW is probably on the table with this administration.
You fear we're heading down the road to trouble???? Donald Trump is the fucking President and White supremacists are his closest advisers. We hit the end of that trouble road in November and are now free falling off a fucking cliff
Just caught up, so this is a tad out of rhythm as it were but... Are major revenue collegiate athletics compatible with democracy? :D
South Carolina has basically convinced their workers the only reason businesses come there is because they're hard line anti-union so voting for unions = voting for the jobs to go away.
Yeah they say anything based on what way the wind is blowing. You've got all these right wing publications like the Federalist and National Review that rail against the existence of the welfare state, but they are literally only operating today because of the oceans of dark money that keep them afloat. It's like raaaaiiiiiiiiiin
mostly posting in here to read later. back to work and such.... 49 Years Ago, Harry Belafonte Hosted the Tonight Show—and It Was Amazing https://www.thenation.com/article/4...e-hosted-the-tonight-show-and-it-was-amazing/
Hello guys, the Senate has voted in favor of repealing an Obama era rule denying the mentally ill the right to own guns. The rule was enacted after the Sandy Hook massacre of school children. The standard was a prohibition if you were mentally unable to handle your own financial affairs. Good news, you may not be able to purchase a gun with a check or credit card, because you are legally incapable of owning one, but you can buy a gun. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...-tightening-checks-on-mentally-ill-gun-buyers
Harward left Iran in 1974, six years before the revolution and at a time when Iran was a staunch, secular U.S. ally. Just layers of ignorance piled on top of each other.
Hopefully a documented armed mentally ill person finds his way into the senate while they're in session. Better them than the class full of kids or people just going to work.
I've always wanted individuals who were incapable of buying a gun to at least have the option to buy a gun.
Co-opting Christianity was a pretty clever move by the Republicans who were in it for the money. Believing in an afterlife makes poor people a lot more content with having a shitty life on earth.
I don't believe that any guns should be banned, own whatever you want, just don't let every hothead with road rage issues carry a loaded gun wherever they go. Belong to a gun club, whatever. Carry a loaded gun to the grocery store, no. But who in their right mind believes that someone so mentally incompetent that they can't handle their own finances should be carrying a gun? 53 senators
I'm not even going to do a double take when one of these jackasses argues that criminals have a constitutional right to buy guns. If I were a Democratic Congressman, I might introduce a bill allowing illegal immigrants to buy guns just to see how much it confuses the other side.
Fuck it go all out and include a gun subsidy program, because lack of funds should not infringe on your right to bear arms. The federal government will subsidize the purchase of 1 gun per year.
We can reduce the need for SNAP food assistance benefits, probably eliminate the program, if everyone would just learn how to hunt.
