Best, Chris Bowers Executive Campaign Director, Daily Kos Paid for by Aspiration. Prospector, when the forces aligned against progress are at their most powerful, the choice we face is to feel hopeless or to take action. Change doesn’t just happen. People make it happen. And when Washington is working against our beliefs, we need to find other ways to make a difference. One way to take action is to move your banking or investment account from Wall Street or the Big Banks to Aspiration, the financial firm with a conscience. Here’s what you get: No ATM fees ever, anywhere in the world. A checking account interest rate that is 100 times higher than that offered by Big Banks like Wells Fargo. Sustainable, fossil fuel-free, firearm-free investment options. Customers choose the fee they think Aspiration deserves – even if it is zero. And Aspiration donates 10% of every dollar it makes to charitable microloans for low-income Americans. Open an Aspiration Account Today. Here’s why it matters: Big Banks like Wells Fargo and Bank of America charge you outrageous fees and use them for lobbying and campaign contributions in order to push through anti-consumer legislation. Aspiration lets you choose your own fee and gives to microloans for struggling Americans. Wall Street and index funds put your investments in big oil companies and companies that mistreat their workers. Aspiration’s Redwood Fund is 100% fossil fuel free and invests in companies with great environmental, employee, and diversity track records. That’s why the Sierra Club has partnered with Aspiration to help more Americans divest from big oil and invest in companies that are doing what’s right. Maybe that’s why the Huffington Post wrote that Aspiration is “channeling Elizabeth Warren to change the face of banking.” And why Ozy declared that “if you feel the Bern,” Aspiration is a financial company “you may actually like.” You can quickly and easily sign up for an Aspiration account here. Thousands of Americans a month are opening accounts with Aspiration. And people are noticing. Aspiration’s Summit checking account was named “Best Checking Account in America” by Money Magazine. Aspiration was named to Fast Company’s “Fifty Most Innovative Companies in the World” list, and it was ranked number four in Finance and number three in Social Good – the first time a company was on both those lists. Change your bank. Change your world. Because the truth is, they both could use some change right about now. Thank you, Chris Bowers, Executive Campaign Director Daily Kos Paid for by Aspiration. this article is amusing to me. http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/fe...ussia-iconic-countryside-170207084912286.html because of this bit: Basically, no matter where you are in the world, if you're white and busted poor, it's Obama's fault. Seriously, what are these people going to do now that they can't blame all of the world's ills on the black guy?
Free four year college, restricting handguns/magazines, etc. Ok with Hil's "common sense gun legislation", but would rather that effort be put towards mental health. I was never worried about 2a as an issue in this election with a GOP congress. As a banker, and one who was burned by the downturn, I'm ok splitting up consumer and investment banks. Also don't think R/W or marriage equality should be overturned. Would love to see tax reform, we'd all like to pay less, but the country still has bills to pay. I don't like ACA ideologically, but it serves a purpose and hasn't effected me personally, so I have a hard time objecting. I don't believe it was given a fair shot from the jump though. Would have liked to see the full plan in action and not a half ass program. Needs adjustment to help small businesses with 1,000 or less employees. I was very comfortable with BO, and even Hillary was slightly right of him. I believe we should have a balance in all things that serves the greater good. What issues should I be asking about? Sometimes I have no idea where I really fall on the political spectrum, but I know damn well I don't belong with the current GOP.
We should have two parties that debate how to fix these issues, not deny they exist completely. There should be a Republican party with candidates that look a lot like Hillary Clinton politically and then a left party where most of the rest of us itt would fall. Instead we get a far right dumpster fire party controlling everything
Could you imagine if we had one good plan to tackle climate change and then another well thought out plan to tackle climate change? Let's just pretend it doesn't exist. Lol liberal tears
it's fun that the Republican party has become so radicalized in eight years that this is like objectively an extremely Democrat position just because you reference a middle ground at all. Will give you my opinion on things you mentioned because we never really talk policies or our positions in here anymore due to the Reaper in Chief. Free four year college I go back and forth on. Perfect world yes it should be free, but the first thing that needs to be addressed is the debt burden for even public colleges. If you could work two days a week at a minimum wage job and pay for your schooling no one would be fighting this battle, and this is how it worked 30 years ago. Stop giving new grads mortgage payments just for becoming more productive members of society, theres no good explanation for the rise in costs that isn't just greed on behalf of colleges. We have to stop vilifying the government expanding access when it was greed on the part of the private sector that is the problem, the private sector being seen as amoral and that being acceptable has to go away. The most basic of gun control legislation is approved of by like 90% of the country and should be enacted yesterday. The left isn't trying to take guns away from everyone even if people think thats the case, most of us just dont see the gun violence body count and think its an acceptable cost for the level of 2nd amendment freedom we currently have. Tax code needs to be simplified and rich people need to stop being able to get loopholes built into the system through lobbying so they can end up with tiny % of income tax burden. ACA was a bandaid on inadequate access, outrageous costs (ACA slowed down healthcare cost increases), and wildly disparate healthcare outcomes tied to income. America failed by not having a universal system from jump. Best move going forward is allowing people to sign up for Medicare (public option), greatly expand Medicaid access, and allow more aggressive negotiating on drug prices which the expanded rolls of Medicare/Medicaid will help. This also ties into mental health access for the 2ndA part, rural mental health/country mental health offices need a huge boost in $, Psychiatry should be removed from traditional medical degree routes and there should be expanded recruiting for this field as the deficit in these jobs is a nightmare issue in most areas of the country. Expanded subsidy for middle class and small business owners has been attempted to get through basically from the first year of the ACA but GOP said nah. R/W and gay marriage would be great issues for Americans to forget. Too many people align with parties based on R/W alone and it allows ridiculous policies to get through because the GOP is the party of getting rid of abortion. Other countries are continually confused about our political climate because our wedge issues don't exist in most western countries, at least on the grand stage.
One of bho's speeches he addressed this. Think it was after Sandy Hook. He said basically the same thing that like 90% of the general pop wants common sense gun legislation but we can't get a single law enacted.
NRA throws around insane $$$ to the Republicans and moderate Dems to kill it all because decreased access to guns means less guns sold capitalism everyone!
Yea it's a symptom of a broken system imo. It doesn't even represent the people it governs anymore. We even saw it this election where the candidate 3m more prior voted for, lost. I fear we're heading down the road to trouble if it doesn't get fixed soon
There are a lot of mid-40 former high school classmates in my Facebook feed who spend their free time posting memes while waiting for Trump to bring those steel and coal jobs back.
I have a theory I told my wife that I think someone on the left makes a lot of them. They'll have obvious mistakes that make the poster look like a moron. This was one I saw with a picture of "Grover Cleveland"
I think a lot of potential psychiatrists become psychologists/counselors/social workers because they don't have to go through med school. Just trying to find a way to cut out things that may be unnecessary, you don't think psychiatry is a little odd fit compared to most other specialties?
Well you can become a counselor by getting a masters in Social Work and going through a few years of clinical supervision for an LCSW. My wife is currently in this process although I don't know if she'll want to be a full-time counselor.
Pretty much in agreement with all. The climbings costs of college are tied to the arms race, unchecked and reckless lending, and administration bloat. Maybe starting with underwriting student loans tied to expecting ability to repay like we do normal loans would help the other two factors and curb costs and ridiculous debt loads. Some of this also goes back to personal responsibility. Would love to see BO's juco/tech plan implemented. It's a small price to pay for helping kids get a leg up. Small government would be getting out of people's personal lives like the wedge issues you mentioned. So I'm democrat? Does that mean I'm a libtard too?! I cringe every time I see someone uses liberal as a disparaging term. Appreciate the legit response.
oh hey me too right now yes you're a Democrat maybe in eight years who knows yeah "liberal" being a bad word is odd and something I never encountered until moving to the South
Yeah I read your initial comment too quickly. I don't disagree that psychiatry seems a little out of place to require med school and that there are other ways to achieve a role of counselor, but it a profession that allows you to write prescriptions should require a fundamental understanding of some medicine and molecular biology.
I wasn't being snarky if it read that way. and yeah as someone who was a passenger on a trip through med school and has a neighbor who is a psychiatry resident it just doesn't seem to be most efficient way to train people in that field. they still need all the science training.
The medical causes of psychiatric disturbances are important and real and getting that medical experience provides important grounding for that. Also, it's important to understand how medications you may prescribe for a psychiatric problem may affect someone with other medical conditions requiring medications
Guess what? Jason Chaffetz is finally going to use his House Oversight Committee to investigate Flynn. Not whether Flynn violated the law, but whether there are individuals in the national security establishment who leaked the info. The letter that went out, earlier today: https://oversight.house.gov/wp-cont...15-JEC-RWG-to-Horowitz-re-Classified-Info.pdf
I dont disagree with any of that. I just think you can probably train psychiatrists in <7yrs and it'd help address the deficit of psychiatrists, people who are interested in that field but see a conventional medical training as a lot of quasi or not so useful work to get to that end goal. It's a functional change as much as it is philosophical.
Doez Chaffetz rally want the IC on his ass like Donny? What are these dickheads doing? They're investigating our IC as opposed to the clearly compromised Prez
Chaffetz is begging to get primaried. You can pull this shit when you represent some shitass Oklahoma district dominated by evangelicals, not when your constituency is the one still broadly principled conservative cohort.
all I've been saying to my students is stick to your party and primary worthless invertebrates I don't care if you're a republican but please elect a competent one
wasnt a troll... I was just reading about how Islam strictly forbids the separation of church and state, and thought i'd ask. It wasnt very well thought out I'll admit. ...and I always have a follow up to my trolls.
