Played the first hour or so and enjoyed it, and it feels like there’s a lot more to it than the original. Reviews are generally very good. https://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-series-x/star-wars-jedi-survivor
Played about an hour last night pretty late. Intro was great. Throws you into some shit immediately to learn the ropes (didn't play the first game) so the awesome summary video and beginning mechanic tutorial were perfect and didn't feel tedious. May have to up the difficulty to Grand Master though. Combat feels like a slightly easier version of a Dark Souls game
Surprised the reviews are so good, given the performance issues. Even on PS5 there’s a bunch of screen tearing.
Pretty annoyed at the PlayStation app, used to be so easy to have it start downloading while I’m at work, but not working at all today so now waiting a couple extra hours. Wish I knew you could preload it, but didn’t see that in the app because it’s hidden in some news feed.
Game actually runs pretty smoothly so far on my pc as far as visuals and frame rate, but it obviously wasn’t optimized for PC controls. Can’t get any controller to consistently be recognized and the keyboard and mouse interactions are clunky at best.
Played through Coruscant and my sentiments are pretty similar to what I had from Fallen Order; playing God of War before this game spoiled me and this just feels like a shittier Ragnarok in a Star Wars dressing. Combat is not nearly as smooth, all your attacks animation locks you that you can't block/parry or dodge out of once you begin them, the holomap is still one of the worst navigation maps of any game I've seen that they somehow kept from the first game.
Seems silly to compare it to God of War which is more of a dodge roll and combo game and this is more of a defensive/parry game. Some of the different stances you get are pretty different though if you don’t like the first few.
Played a good bit this weekend. Most of my performance issues have been during the transition to a cutscene, so it has only been annoying and not game breaking. The movement feels smooth. You're definitely able to rely on solely parrying, but the dodging and jumping are so precise that you can absolutely beat most enemies without parrying at all. A few of the legendary enemies I've beaten so far have been through mostly dodging/jumping. Exploration, voice acting, detailed locations, and characters are all top notch.
I know you can parry in good of war, just think the combat is different and not comparable. I guess I’m this game I’m looking for combat that feels like lightsaber/Jedi fighting and this game delivers that I feel like. Not saying it’s better than GoW. Crossguard stance is fucking sick.
that's not my point. in this game, once you begin your attack animation of anything, even basic attack, you're animation locked and cannot dodge/jump/block/parry, that's not a "what style of game this is", its just a shitty design choice that limits you for the sake of limiting you.
That’s a feature not a bug imo, not supposed to be a button smasher where you can cancel anything. Get good.
That’s the way I saw it too. They want you to be precise with your attacking. Combat feels a lot more like a FromSoft game which I’m a huge fan of. Mix that with a great parkour game that’s better than any Assasins Creed I’ve played. Throw some Jedi Force and pretty fun talent trees in there. I’m having a blast with it so far. But I’m doing hella side quests those rumors are everywhere. I also use the map a lot and actually like it. Hit damn near every yellow gate everywhere I go. Also shows the wall routes if you get stuck somewhere which is nice. Finally got to the second planet and I think I may be one of the few people that are gonna be anti-blaster stance. Basic stance and maxed out confusion is fun for dealing with groups. Double blade is great for single combat.
I’ve had a lot of frame rate issues and the game has shut down on me twice so far. Also combat is wonky in a few of the stances but I really enjoy the double sided and cross guard stance combat so far Skoova Stev is also my favorite character in a Star Wars game in quite some time
Man that Jedi-Wraith Parkour scene in the Jedha mission for like 90 seconds straight then That was one of my favorite missions in any RPG I've ever played. Adding the air dash was a chefs kiss on the parkour game. Wish they had the option to replay that rescue from start to finish
It’s running like shit on my PS5. Always set to performance mode. Turned off the optionsals like blur, chromatic abberation, etc. Screen tears are getting worse. Hope this patch today fixes it. Wonder when it goes live.
Is anyone else ITT on XBX or just me? I had to google screen tear and haven't seen one of those yet. Don't have performance mode on but just have motion blur turned off and the only thing I've noticed at all is that coming in or going out of the cantina on koboh the door with the eyeball guy makes you wait 2-3 seconds before entering while the game loads
I didn’t really notice any improvements, but also nothing worse. I didn’t, and haven’t, ran into any glitches, just seems performance issues. Doesn’t feel like it’s running 60FPS. Have only played on PS5.
1. Yes 2. I read through some of the steam comments last night and optimized the game through my nvidia app and it’s worked ever since, what’s weird is it changed some of the settings from High to Epic, I also installed new drivers 3. This game is fucking dope, it sucks that it’s having a tough launch 4. Turn off ray tracing was another comment I saw a lot of, the nvidia app turned it off for me when it optimized
I generally don't get the hype with ray tracing anyway, so I always leave it off. It is a giant performance hit for things I usually don't notice while playing. I'm loving the game. Framerate hitches here and there, but I'm running pretty good overall. Haven't had any crashes, no game ruining bugs so far for me. Just finished getting the final saber stance for reference on how far I am in the game. From reading reactions to it, you'd think the game was an unplayable mess. It's not as smooth as it should be, but it's still definitely playable. I sometimes wonder if people remember how games used to run in the past. Game is beautiful, too.
Imo its gonna take at least another 5 years for hardware to catch up to what ray tracing could offer without it just turning games into complete shit.
well, may have spoken too soon. Just got the "extra tool" for BD-1 (without spoiling anything) and have had two crashes in a row while using that thing.
I got past the crashing by just lowering my settings for that section. Back at epic now and running smooth. The EA app is godawful, though. Games from that launcher refuse to recognize my Xbox elite controller but work with a dual sense. Seems backwards.
We never played Fallen Order. Remind me when we saw this guy during order 66, was it a Bad Batch episode?
Just had the major event and surprise boss fight on Jedha. That string of events that you play through cemented this game as my favorite RPG to date and the only reason it's not a "...and it's not even close" is because FromSoft games are multiplayer and Elden Ring co-op was an incredibly fun experience
Just finished Platinum Trophy. Definitely awesome gameplay, thought the main storyline was just kind of ok. I know the main planets were huge but also kind of lame only really having 2 main planets and another small one have much content.
Story itself is pretty damn good for an RPG I thought. Not as good as RDR2 but much better than Hogwarts and all the FromSoft games that I legitimately have no idea what is going. Hard to rate it vs TW3 because that games story seemed to have a million things going on the entire time. Agree on the planets it would have been pretty dope to have an ice planet or something. And Jedha was almost too barren even though it's a desert planet. I thought the moon on the 1st trip had a great ESB at Cloud City type vibe which was cool
I didn't play the first one but my gameshare bro bought it so I may go back and play it at some point in time.
