Starting a new thread for this, since through 3 episodes, it's a significant upgrade over the newer serial offerings. Really enjoyed episode 3, a throw back to the Naked Time/Now.
A minor quibble in that the solutions to the problems of the week have tended to be cheat codes instead of the culmination of the problem being worked, but the post-solution payoffs have had some really strong moments. It’s what Discovery should have been.
Another week, another really solid episode. The writing and banter is just ok for the most part, but the cast is so good and they are going a great job so far building up the characters, and adding context to the already existing ones. Mount and Romjin specifically are really good in their roles.
Pretty jazzed that it seems like they are going to make the Gorn the main antagonists of this series.
Probably best episode so far this week. Really really solid. Probably has happened, but I can't remember a Star Trek episode using a song on the outro that wasn't something created for the show before.
Liking the show a lot although the 2nd episode was one of the worst Trek episodes ever IMHO. You know what they say about opinions...
Spoiler Damn RIP Hemmer. Was really liking the bits of his character. Assuming this opens the door for Scottie to come on as engineer
I haven't gotten that far but it must be pretty bad to be in the conversation with the one where they go warp 10 and Paris and Janeway turn into lizards
Havent gotten around to it yet but tawny newsome is so great on comedy bang bang so i need to check it out
I still don't understand how Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds ended up being incredible while Picard and Disco are like at best subpar.
I heard the last season of picard is great but never started it at all cuz of all the negative reviews. Disco started off ok then fell off a cliff
It's great and then it just went too off the rails for me in the last two episodes. Just killed everything for me about the season Amanda Plummer crushed her role. Todd Stashwick prob my favorite new star fleet character of the past few years
Same shit as Star Wars episodes 7-9, they need to stop rehashing old characters and move on to new ones.
You're also forgetting the most important part... KEEP THAT FUCKING HACK JJ ABRHAMS AWAY FROM THE PROJECT
the timeline shifting of some of the key events in the latest episode are a bit confusing. Has DIS/SNW always been in a third canon timeline, fractured from ENT?
Just finished season 1 and 1st 2 eps of season 2. This series has been exceptional with crisp writing and great acting. A few eps are among the best I've ever seen, like the S1 finale. Bummed I'm going to catch up soon ...
I like the new kirk. The final shot of him Uhura and Spock hanging out was dope They knocked the casting of Spock, Kirk and Uhura out of the park imo O and I don't know if anyone caught the nod to the original series. Kirk states in the TOS that he met pike when he became fleet captain.
the run of eps this season only highlights how good star trek can still be, and where some of the other shows failed to live up to that
Hey man, thanks for the heads up. Had never seen Lower Decks, so watched the 1st ep, which helped a ton contextually. The crossover ep was terrific ...
While watching the lower decks crossover ep, there was 1 line that just killed me, when Boimler was discussing with Mariner what it was like on The Enterprise, he said, "they talk so slowly ... and quietly." Such a great self-effacing observation ...
