Just read this comment on the New Yorker story. I have to admit, I wasn't aware of this story beforehand, but the idea that a dying young person would tell her significant other to skip the funeral and play football is laughable. Conversations like that happen in reality approximately zero times an eternity
so was the girl on the other line saying she had leukemia and died(if he even did talk on the phone with a girl) or did he find out he was duped and killed her off
Got the vibe from that Woj that he doesn't believe anything Te'o said in his statement. I'm hoping the rest of the national media isn't so fucking gullible after all the shit with Lance Armstrong.
Guy on the radio just now: "it shouldn't hurt his draft stock; at least not as much as his 40 time will".
Bruce Feldman @BFeldmanCBS Weird seeing reports of Te'o issuing his statement about the hoax on Tuesday since Deadspin story broke today.
I guess the jokers could have told Manti that? I mean if he really wasn't in on any of this, then I actually feel bad for the kid.
Even if you grant him the bullshit reasoning that he got hoaxed, he lied multiple times to the media and the nation about his relationship with her since he said he met her in 2009 at Stanford and met her multiple times in person when clearly he never did He is a liar either way, lol
I feel bad about the prank. Seems like a good enough guy, but letting the media circus about it continue after he found out it was a hoax is shitty. Let the jokes continue
ridiculous he said he never met her but in the first articles about them was how they shook hands, exchanged phone numbers and stuff. pretty sure twitter will start ripping his statement apart soon
They probably contacted him and said "We're running this tomorrow, here's your chance to add your side."
Was TMB behind this prank?!?!? A lot of people got likes from me in this thread. And they were all so well-deserved.
Te'o: i met her online. Everyone: but you said you met her after the stanford game? Te'o: i also said she died of leukemia
Nov. 28, 2009: Te'o and Kekua meet after Stanford's 45-38 victory over Notre Dame in Palo Alto, according to the South Bend Tribune: "Their stares got pleasantly tangled, then Manti Te'o extended his hand to the stranger with a warm smile and soulful eyes." Kekua, a Stanford student, swaps phone numbers with Te'o. Brian Te'o, with wife Ottilia. 2010-2011: Te'o and Kekua are friends. "She was gifted in music, multi-lingual, had dreams grounded in reality and the talent to catch up to them" (South Bend Tribune). "They started out as just friends," Te'o's father, Brian, told the Tribune in October 2012. "Every once in a while, she would travel to Hawaii, and that happened to be the time Manti was home, so he would meet with her there." Early 2012: Te'o and Kekua become a couple. They talk on the phone nightly, according to ESPN.
Has anyone been able to find a quote or video where he actually talks about them meeting in person? That's what needs to get out in the national media to really turn everyone against him.
Has this scouting report been posted btw? Jonathan Gold @TheCoolSub Positives: Elite instincts, elite intangibles, nose for the ball. Negatives: MADE UP GIRLFRIEND AND CLAIMED SHE DIED.
Remember the Kid who held a press conference and committed to Cal without even holding any offer...Teo and him should start a reality show was a typical occurrence in today's recruiting world: A big lineman from a small high school holds a news conference to announce where he will play college football. Two local TV stations showed up to film the event, and a majority of the students at the school turned out to watch. Jeff Tedford would probably be surprised to hear that he landed another offensive lineman. But there was one problem when Kevin Hart, a 6-foot-4, 304-pounder from Fernley (Nev.) High, chose California on Friday: Cal never officially offered a scholarship. In fact, it appears no one from the school ever talked with Hart. The situation now is such that Fernley High coach Mark Hodges toldBearTerritory.net ? a Web site that covers Cal sports ? that the matter is "being investigated by law enforcement." At Friday's announcement, Hart told those assembled that he and Cal coach Jeff Tedford had "talked a lot, and the fact that the head coach did most of the recruiting of me kind of gave me the real personal experience." In a Jan. 23 story in the Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal, Hart ? who while possessing good size, isn't considered a top prospect; he lacks quickness and upper-body strength ? said he was considering Oregon, Washington and Illinois and had recently spoken by phone with new Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman. But BearTerritory.net reported that the Cal staff has had no contact with Hart or Hodges and that Hart hasn't been on a recruiting trip to any school. The Nevada Interscholastic Athletics Association is looking into the matter as well, and executive director Eddie Bonine told the Gazette-Journal, "It could be that someone was impersonating those schools." Hodges told bearterritory.net that he had been in discussions about the Hart matter with other school officials and with school-district representatives.
