Just watched S1 E1&2 today. Surprised by how awesome it is, and by how short each season is. Can't wait based upon some comments.
Screw you guys. Instead of going to sleep at a reasonable time last night, I started E3. "I'll just watch half, then finish tomorrow." Yeah, at 1:30 Inwas wide awake and debating whether to start S2.
I will, just no time currently, plus I was outraged they would kill off a great villain so quickly. But in my heart I know they didn't, somehow.
Supposed to be a super, super dark season. Toby Jones's character: Spoiler is named after the villain in "The Adventure of the Dying Detective", who certainly was quite the asshole.
Title seems like a reference to "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons"...pretty interesting story, won't spoil for those who aren't familiar with it.
Truman What did yall think? The moriority stuff was all a headfake... 100% just about mary. Even her cd i was like omg for a second Guess morioritys stuff more related to the thing on mycrofts fridge?
It was good. I miss the earlier tone of the show, where Sherlock was more whimsical and every case didn't involve a national security threat or catastrophe. Having said that, seems like we're going to get just the opposite, which is fine, I just wish it wasn't so heavy all the time. Especially for 90 minute episodes.
I didn't like the whole texting thing with Watson. It just seemed so forced and out of character for what we know of his character, and I honestly could do without the Sherlock-Watson estrangement now. Just stick to the cases and spare us the melodrama.
Exactly. We don't need this show to be dark. Give me Season 1 again please. I think I mentioned this before, but I'm not really interested in a Christopher Nolan-ized Sherlock.
Just finished. Surprised at the tepid reaction, liked this episode a lot. Spoiler Mary's death was essentially unavoidable, both canonically and in the dramatic sense of the show; you don't need two Johns to play off Sherlock. John's reaction is almost purely guttural and emotional at this point, but he'll come to understand it wasn't really Sherlock's fault. Loved the twist with the secretary, a perfectly subtle bit of foreshadowing. I do agree that the John flirting-ish with that woman from the bus is a bit tacked on and unnecessary for his development. Top three references for me personally: 1.) The A.G.R.A. stick (a play on the secret of Fort Agra in The Sign of Four) 2.) The Norbury line in reference to "The Adventure of the Yellow Face" 3.) The dog Toby being used for a scent, again from The Sign of Four Mycroft calling Sherrinford at the end is veeeeeery interesting and could lead to some new tangents that I'd like to see.
When ACD originally conceived the idea of Sherlock Holmes, one of the early draft names he had for the character was Sherrinford. That was later extrapolated to be a hypothetical name for the eldest brother of Sherlock and Mycroft. In Victorian society, it would have been traditional for the eldest brother to stay at the family estate and maintain the grounds, so it was argued by some critics that a family like Holmes's, with aristocratic roots, would need to have some sort of elder brother to free them for lives and careers in London, hence the creation of Sherrinford as a suitable explanation in derived works based on the Holmes mythos.
