I’ve been posting it in here for a long time but it’ll never be any lower than maybe 48 but more likely 60 is the floor
We’ve already seen NIL positively affect this. Collections are writing into the contract big bonuses for not opting out.
There are some ideas in there that may work The SEC and Big Ten are going to do what they want The leftover conference after the ACC gets picked over might get to play them, but will have no decision making ability
The idea is shockingly not bad but there is 0% chance the conference commissioners give up their sweet gigs for that.
I think it's an interesting idea and would be a lot better for the game as a whole than whatever *gestures wildly* this is. So it'll never happen because it does clearly diminish the power of certain fiefdoms. Having a pro/rel league would create more interest in the 8th division and lower divisions than what exists now. Which I think is exclusively degenerate gamblers and sickos outside of the actual fanbases of the schools.
The concept of MACtion is absolutely attributable to gamblers wanting to throw down some action on a Tuesday night.
I know they have very little fans and virtually no interest from any of the major conferences, but I think the Hurricanes squeak in to an 80 team field
i would be really interested to see an 80 team super league. which teams would make it in? there's probably ~65 teams who deserve a spot but who else would be in? would slots be sold to any school who wanted to pay an entry fee? would it be determined by athletics revenue with no entry fee? how would it be structured? you'd have to think it could only happen if "conferences" still exist to some degree. going the super league route could easily bring back the rivalries and regionality people love.
Promotion and relegation are absolutely awesome. Any European soccer fan can tell you how much more interesting it makes things. Makes the games at the top end and bottom end that much more exciting. If college football ever adopted something like that, I'd be all in.
Relegation doesn’t mean much if it’s the 80th best team getting bounced as opposed to the 20th - especially when 60 teams are exempted from relegation
Makes promotion/relegation a bigger deal imo. English football clubs have figured it out. I have no doubt we could too. Just need to enable the ability to send recruits on loan for 2 years.
The judge basically said, “Shame on you ACC. Don’t bring garbage like that to my court.” The other part means that lawsuits filed against the ACC by member schools are not prohibited under the ACC bylaws or contracts even though they cause the ACC to spend money to fight them. Good news for FSU, Clemson and any others who file lawsuits.
Saw this shared on FB, not sure if legit. Won't let me c/p so here's the link: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1778332438529249605.html (ESPN trying to help Clemson/FSU out of ACC into SEC)
I've already been sold on the idea of discussing world politics with a snifter of brandy with our like-minded big 10 friends. Have no interest in learning about professional wrestling and domestic beer just so I can hold a conversation with sec folks.
