Woke up today decided to kill my ego and Everybody Wants to Rule the World was finishing up on the radio. Got in the car and put on that radio station for the song on Spotify. Led me to this song, which I had absolutely no idea about. Never heard of the band before this morning and suddenly, I was singing along. Spoiler
I’ve given up hope of seeing him live. Had tickets to a show that was cancelled during Covid and then tickets to see him at the Ryman and he ruptured his vocal cords the month before. At least I got to see him once at the Opry even if it was only like 4 songs. Pretty sure that was John Prine’s last time at the Opry too
I saw him in 2015 at a small theater in Tucson before he blew up. I think the two tickets were under $40 total. Had tickets to see him at Red Rocks in 2017 and ended up selling them because we had a ton of other trips around that time. I regret doing that so much now.
I saw him in March 2020 with Tyler Childers as opener. Over half of the audience left when Sturgill came onstage and started playing Sound and Fury from start to finish. We ended up moving up to stage front and it was incredible. I think that was the last show on the tour before Covid shut it down.
Assuming this was the show in Duluth, GA? I remember Sturgill making a sarcastic comment after playing Sound & Fury that he was now going to play all the songs that the people who left wanted to her. Great show, then the entire world went to shit.
Charleston. He made pretty much the same comment before going into his other stuff. Looks like that was 3 days after the Duluth show.
Charleston was the last show I think. I was supposed to see them at the Mothership the next show and it was cancelled.
First show at the Ryman when he opened for Isbell. 2nd was Jack Rabbits(dive Bar) in Jacksonville 3 days after the Ryman. 3rd was him opening for DBT in San Fran (left after Sturgill to catch The Weeks at a dive bar). 4th was Sturgill opeing for Isbell again in Tuscaloosa. Saw him at the Wharf in Orange Beach, at Brooklyn Bowl in Vegas. Fox Theater in Oakland. Was supposed to see him and Tyler at MSG. I might be missing a show or 2 in there
Yea has tickets to the Sound and Fury show at Bridgestone and I think they cancelled like 2 weeks before the show.
My first was Chop Shop in Charlotte (now closed). Then Pour House Charleston. Then Thomas Wolfe Asheville. Then much later, right before covid w/TCC in Charlotte
