This is such a good song. Elisabeth is not the best album of 2020, but it might be my favorite. I find myself coming back to it constantly.
What happened to red dirt? Was great then then seemingly all the good ones got gobbled up by addiction or sold out.
Yeah, it was weird. It's like Kentucky took over the alt country scene and Texas isn't really doing much.
The emergence of Americana as a massive genre kind of swallowed up a lot of the red dirt movement and incorporated it into the fringes of that. Still some gems out in Texas and Oklahoma, but it’s not like it was 10 years ago.
Plus a lot of the new “red dirt” is just microwaved old red dirt. It all sounds the same as it did 10-15 years ago
Kentucky definitely has the big swinging dicks of alternative country right now in Childers, Stapleton, and Sturgill (depending on the day). Red Dirt lost their headliner when Turnpike went on hiatus. you would have to say guys like Jinks and Shane Smith are probably making some of the best music down there but they don't have as large of followings imo. Cody Johnson is fine but he's signed to a Nashville label. Koe Wetzel is barely country at all.
The same guys are still around on the Red Dirt scene. It was never really that big to begin with IMO. They just started hitting southern states, and the occasional trip out west instead of trips up and down I-35. Parker McCollum is constantly on the radio and suddenly a thing here in Nashville, but he's been around for a minute. I hear Whiskey Meyers just about anywhere I travel now. I don't think either of them has sold out. BTW a lot of the Texas/Red Dirt guys tried going the Nashville route with Pat Green in the early 2000s and got rejected.
However, I don't recognize half these names on the Texas Music Now playlist on Spotify. Every other song is Koe
Judging by some things Kyle nix has posted on Instagram I don’t think that’s happening. Felker going solo seems the most likely to happen.
Seeing Wade and Randy at the bottom of a lineup reminds me of the good ole days. That looks like the 2000s era Texas Mardi Gras logo. The only problem I see with it is there's no Cory Morrow when mentioning "Pat Green & Friends" and bring back Ragweed
True, I wasnt criticizing him for doing what he does. Just all the others who tried to replicate his formula but are just terrible at it. Also, Here we go>>> live at Billy Bob’s
He already said he's got back to music. Just a matter of when we get to see what he does rather than if
There’s still band members a little less forgiving rn than the wife, but the insta post today shows that time can heal all wounds there were rumblings before covid they were gonna do a reunion tour with a less popular group that split up from similar issues (alcohol not Miranda), but Evan wasn’t quite ready. No, it’s not Ragweed, but it would be cool if it was them.
Ragweed split because Grady Cross accused Cody of stealing money from the band and started getting lawyers involved. Cody has stated that he will never share a stage with him ever again.
Cody wanted to replace a member of the band, and for a while, thought he was bigger than the band. I was in IL during their last show and all the drama.
would think a Turnpike reunion tour could be highly profitable. with a year of little to no live shows because of covid I wonder if that will be the deciding factor for guys like Nix. tbqh even if they get back together they should probably cut back on their touring. they've been grinding for over a decade.
One of the band members was a terrible guitar player and was more focused on their bar in Yukon, Oklahoma. It’s easy to figure out who that was now. Cody looked like a giant prick at the time but he wasn’t wrong and ended up being the right move. Two sides to every story.

Stoney put out a double live album. Maybe I’m being critical, but he did not sound great. At least on the first part. Seemingly got better as it went on
