Sadly, the latter. Nice spots & areas, but not a place I’d venture out at night. I left off The Volstead… probably the best bar / cocktails in town & it’s downtown.
I’ve walked at night from the stadium to Riverside after football games. Think that’s the only time I would do it though.
If you do river and post don’t do their brunch. It sucked. Now their lunch was great but their brunch was hot ass the the last time we went. corner taco is good in that same area. I’ve ate their and walked around when my wife gets her hair done or we go to the arts market
We use to go to the Riverside Arts Market every Saturday. They had a legit Jamaican paddies stand and there was an older Indian man that handmade everything from Naan to Samosas and sauces. I miss that place.
You gotta try Taqueria Cinco, around the corner of Lomax River & Post is mostly for the rooftop drinks… the food is just okay, I agree
Gonna be honest I don’t leave my little hub much and the restaurants kinda suck and the ones that don’t suck my wife won’t eat bc she can’t eat gluten or won’t eat seafood. I will stan for my absolute favorite food truck (now brick and mortar) located near taco Lu. Go to abstrakt and get the pork belly sisig. I’m so bummed that stopped their food truck. Every few months they would come to our hood and I’d get lumpia and two orders of sisig.
We go every now and then. We went more we we didn’t have a kid and lived in an apartment on south side. Yeah love their food trucks. I’m a sucker for a food truck but I absolutely despise that they are all some sort of taco or burger joint.
The food at River & Post is overrated. Also note that you can’t get the full menu of you go to the rooftop.
Ha we lived in an apt on Southside too. I'm coming down in a few weeks. I prob won't leave the beaches for anything other than Picasso's
The last 10 years or so has been really great for the food scene in Jacksonville. As a whole, the city lacked any sort of culture/identity and while it unfortunately is spread out all over the fucking place, there are at least little pockets of solid options.
Food in Nocatee is trash just trash. Palm valley has some cool spots though. Had some hopes for Beachwalk but they just brought in a Lowe’s and chain stuff
Man those Beachwalk owners have to be livid with what they've surrounded them with. Not just food but the gigantic gas stations, Lowes, that massive storage place. All of it sucks.
I visit! Agree Jorts is the 904 food expert though. Cynthia and I have said for a while we need start doing one date night with them a month and let them pick where we eat. Jorts knows what I like well enough to not take us to a super foo foo place. Met him and Coack K at some German place last month and it was awesome. No clue how long it's been there and I'd never heard of it.
This is pretty spot on. Jax Historic Districts are now full of great options & the Beaches have been adding great spots for a little over a year now. It's weird how compartmentalized everything is here, even now to a degree
I mean, the entire area is 98% middle aged white families; what were you hoping for? Most of the population is hyped about Olive Garden and Outback.
Id take those at this point. Wendy’s and 3 gas stations os all there is now. I will say the grumpys(breakfast), tikka and taco bowls, and two Thai places have opened up. may biggest want is just a jack of all trades place. A sports bar that can offer a variety of options. Memphis Jax wasn’t great but it was solid consistence food and I was pissed when they sold bc cross creek bbq suckkkks.
Hoping the Nocatee rooftop steak house will be decent too. south kitchen or the loop is our. Idk what we want to eat let’s go there option and it’s honestly ok. I didn’t care for treylor park, timoti. Best food in nocateee might be the green wise deli
That Tikka Bowls place is pretty nice. I'll be curious to see if they open another location because it would kill lots of place in Jax.
Yea we don't eat out a ton but when we do there's nothing in Nocatee we'd go to. There's a Mexican spot called Cinco De Mayo at Palencia that isn't bad. We go to St Augustine more than anything though. It's not far, like 20 minutes.
Pacific Asian Bistro in Palencia is fucking great. Asian Fusion with pretty solid sushi options as well.
Haven't tried it. Primo is pretty close to the house so I can grab it on my way home. Bala looks pretty close to so we may try it out.
Wow The Loop reference. Haven't thought about that place in forever. Felt like I lived there at lunch when I worked in Town Center.
They had it on campus at vsu when I was there. It was a hell of a flashback when I moved to Jax and saw they were everywhere.
It’s next door to my kids day care and I smell it every day. Sometimes I pop in for a slice before picking him up.
I’ve had a couple. But it is usually solid food. Decent burger, decent salads, decent pizza. the south side location butchered my chicken sandwhich and chicken strip dinner tho
Wife loves their burger. I've never had a meal there that I like. If she goes there, I get her to pick up Jersey Mikes for me.
Damn that's surprising to me. And now that I think about it, I want to say the location in Neptune/Atlantic wasn't as good as the Town Center location.
We have one in Nocatee. It's just super mid to me. The Mandarin location was the same way. Just never cared for it.
That’s fair. I would definitely not say it’s the best burger I’ve ever had but I liked it lot. And I ate the wrap as much as the burger.
