My youngest is about to exit the crib. Does anyone have a good hardwired nightlight that they like? Don't really want one that plugs in. I've tried the 2 below (too bright and not bright enough, respectively).

I get the concern, but outside of just using plastic plugs on unused outlets, we never worried about having a nightlight plugged in regularly and it wasn't an issue for us. Obviously your situation may differ.

They're all tamper resistant outlets already. In my brain, I know you're right. In my heart, I just don't want that dummy playing with it unsupervised

When did y'all transition from a crib to a toddler bed? My kid is just about to turn one but has figured out how to pull up on his crib and stand up in there. Seems way too young to make the transition yet but also don’t want that joker to flip himself out of the crib either.

My wife's co-worker brought her daughter to our house today, about the same age as our daughter, two.
My wife is now worried because her friends daughter can talk like a 5 year old, and ours does not.

How well should a 2 year old talk?

Quick answer: Kids develop at their own pace.

Often they are focused on one thing (like gross motor) and that develops quickly and then they switch to a new focus (like language) and that explodes.

Is your kid an only child and is the other not? My second picked up language so much faster, because she spends all day trying to be like her big brother.

Eta but if not, don't worry about it. All kids are different

modified the kids crib to slam it to the floor and they are still in the crib at 4. Double edged sword. They don’t get out and come into our bed but they are trained to yell a specific phrase into the camera if they need help which they do liberally up until they pass out.

My daughter is 26 months and these last several weeks her language has exploded. She’s also starting to show some personality and goofiness. What a fucking trip this is, just reveling in her joy and pain (everything is an owie rn).

I can’t imagine not having an occasional night away from the her tho. We’ve been to Hawaii and London for mom/dad vacays and both my wife and I do our own thing on occasion so we get out time in there too. She’s had a ton of nights at gramma/grandpas house on random weekday and weekend nights too. Were lucky our parents are close and take advantage of it whenever we can.

WRT to talking and kids progressing the last post is a good example of how kids can progress in an instant. They might not talk, walk, etc. much then boom one day they take a single step and the next day they're running. Incredibly hard not to compare kids at any age but all those basic functions will even out before long.

Anyone had a late napper? We’re getting kind of worried because our oldest is set to start kindergarten in the fall and he still takes 2-3 hour naps (without them he is a terrorist).

Hell our oldest was a potato up until 12 months then went from sitting, barely able to crawl to walking in the span of a week. Then his speech was behind our friends girls who are a month older/younger than him but he’s since caught up, but he got his teeth before them and was off bottles before they were.
Learned early on every kid is different.

Our little one still only has 2 bottom teeth at 13 months and still isn't sleeping through the night consistently.

For sure, it usually it's nothing to worry about. My youngest wasn't walking up until probably 13-14 months (we were freaking out a bit), ankles were strong enough. We had to do physical therapy for a few months and get ankle braces (little plastic boots basically). The rest was history.

Oh and our oldest knew sign language so he was ahead on telling us what he wanted even though he couldn't talk. Just something else that was different. We've been trying with the baby on sign language but she isn't taking to it but she points at what she wants.

Kid1 was really good at sign language and has had strong language skills overall. Kid2, not so much.

It fucking blew my mind the first time kid1 signed something on her own. Like holy shit you have thoughts and aren’t a ball of raw inputs and outputs.

Had the same issue with our son as he's always been big and one day around 1 he somehow worked up enough momentum to get over the railing in his crib. We got one of these tents and he had no problem being in it for another year and a half. It looks kind of stupid, but it did the job of keeping him in the crib and he had no issues with it.

Amazon link doesn't seem to be working...look up "pop up crib tent"

he needs more sleep than his 1.5 and 3.5 year old siblings. With him starting kindergarten in the fall he is no longer going to be able to nap though, so trying to figure out how to do this.

Regarding the previous walking/talking convo, my son is 14 months old and his cousin is a month older. She's been walking since 10 months while my dude is still just a power crawler. On the other hand, ours is way farther ahead on language. He knows several words he uses all the time while the cousin still hasn't said her first true word.

Have not checked into this thread in a few years but wanted to say we just wrapped up a 16 day road trip (6600 miles) with the whole family of 6. Drove from Orlando to New Orleans, Houston, White Sands, then tent camped in the Gand Canyon, Lake Powell, Monument Valley, Goblin Valley, Canyon Lands NP, Arches NP. Then hotels in Salt Lake, Rocky Mountain NP, stayed with cousins they have never met before in KS and MO and back.

will never do it again but the memories and stories will last a lifetime. 100% recommend doing a massive roadie with your kids before they head off to college.
