So I found out last Sunday that I'm going to be a Dad. My wife and I were semi trying so its great news. What was not good, was the timing. I had just spent 3 nights in Vegas, got on home very little sleep and had the post Vegas anxiety that hits you after a long flight back to Chicago with a big day of work the next day.

Basically she told me she was pregnant and then we talked about it and then I went to bed at 7PM. Probably not how she envisioned it.

Anyway - its good to tell someone as she is only 7-8 weeks so I have to keep this a secret for another month which is one of the hardest things to do. So anyway Dads - what should I know?

And I had the frustration of not being able to run to this thread for 10 days. Its always exciting to be able to join new threads - especially the Dads thread so here I am guys and I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of questions over the next.....well a long time.

Dad off two, 1 boy that just turned 3 and 1 yr old girl that's mischievous as hell. My son is a joker and loves to be funny. Told me he was freaking out earlier when he was home and I was out getting a beer after work. The boy is a goose.

This morning as I was leaving to go to the gym, I went into the back room where my 12-yr-old and 10-yr-old boys were playing Minecraft together on the XBox. I was dressed in workout clothes, so I figured it was safe to tell them "You know where I'm going, right?" 12-yr-old looks at me and says, matter-of-factly, "Sexfest." Not the response I was looking for, but I went with it. I leaned in and whispered loudly to him, "Don't tell Mom." He starts giggling. 10-yr-old chimes in, not bothering to look away from the TV screen, "Meet a nice woman!" Not sure if I'm raising my sons right, or horribly wrong.

My little girl is about to be 3 months old. She finally got past the colicky shit and the reflux and now she is even sleeping 5-6 hours at a time at night. It has made a huge difference.

Don't worry about reading the books- you'll be fine, Google can be your best friend. This board has a lot of answers from everyone whose been through it before

My daughter is starting to have night terrors. Any of you have experience with this? About 10 minutes ago I finally got her calmed down. It's been going on for about a week and a half, minus a couple of days.

Also, we had some friends come and stay with us for a couple of days from Colorado(we live in Iowa) and they brought their 2 daughters who are almost 5 years old and about 26 months. My daughter is 19 months. Holy shit was that a crazy time with all of those little girls running around. I never imagined 3 little girls could be such terrors. Many beers were consumed by my buddy and I. They left for home on Tuesday and his wife is pregnant. They had an appt today to find out the sex. My wife got a text that they were having a girl. That's 3 daughters. Poor bastard.

Haha. I live in the sticks. Drove 40 minutes to my hometown ice cream place in the middle of no where. Literally 15 minutes from most small towns but this place is like the field of dreams on a summer day with people coming from everywhere.

Same as rcragg82, found out a few weeks ago the wife is pregnant with our first. We'd been trying (for the most part) for a year, so we were very happy. Don't think I'll soon forget the moment she told me. It's been a few weeks now, she told her mom but nobody else. We think she's about 7 weeks along, have our first appointment at the end of the month. We're thinking we'll go public sometime after that or wait the whole trimester, depending on the doc's advice. Know a poster IRL, hope he doesn't check in on this thread.

Anyway, couldn't resist any longer, excited to join this thread.

    Like what exactly?

My daughter turns 7 mo old tomorrow. I know I am early in this game but the only advice I can provide so far it never gets easier, stuff just changes on you, and its awesome. Jump over one hurdle, get proud for a second and you are presented with the next one, rinse, repeat.

A daughter would absolutely own me.

My son just turned one, and the wife wants to start trying for round 2. I'm not ready yet, so the only "trying" that I'll be doing, is trying to pull out.

Little man turned 2 over the great TMB blackout. Joined this thread when the wife was about 3 months prego, so I was pretty pissed about the blackout.

He loves trucks, that's my truck on his cake. Still don't understand why the wife didn't put me on the cake, driving, with beer in hand.

My little man turns 2 later this month. He is also obsessed with all moving vehicles. For a while there all forms of automobiles were busses. I swear he would say the word "Bus!" 150 times a day.

Every June, our town runs what it calls "truck camp." Basically, it's two hours a day where kids 3-7 can climb in and out of every vehicle owned by the town--firetrucks, police cruisers, mowing tractors, ambulances. My five year old thought it was the greatest thing he had ever seen when he was three.

We bought a small trampoline for my daughter when she turned 2 that has mesh walls. It's in our family room where my office is in half of it. I was going down to work this morning and she was wanting to play in her "jumping pen". I had some calls and had to say no. She threw a fit and I think it's because she thinks that I just selfishly play in her "jumping pen" all day every day.

If I remember right the "list" from toys r us has like 5 bed sheets, 5 changing pad covers- you need 2 of each. We change every few days and just throw the extra in the wash. I guess 3 to be safe for an emergency.
Mittens and hats were a complete waste for our girl- she'd pull them right off. Our girl didn't like her swing much at all, and we would have been fine not buying that. The little bumparoo or whatever seat was a waste- she sat in it less than 10 times- just wasn't for her. We got some flower thing to put in the sink to bathe her, used it once. I don't remember everything- but seems like we wasted a ton early on. You can post in here as y'all start making registery- 1) Use amazon, everything was much cheaper than toys r us, and what isn't purchased you can get for 15 or 20% off. 2) This is typically a battle not worth fighting with the wife, let her do her thing.

Our city did something similar a few months ago. I went in thinking he was going to have whatever the toddler version of an orgasm was, but he hated every second of it because all the older kids there were sounding every horn/alarm they could get their shitty little hands on.

Proud father of 2. Almost 10 yr old daughter & 5 yr old son. My son had his first T-ball game over the weekend. Easily the best player on the team (not a biased opinion). Only kid who can hit the ball into the outfield. Also got 2 solo outs on grounders hit to first.

Daughter has boobs coming in. Pray for me.
